Between Four of Us

A Private Betrayal

Ch. 107 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

The air in the house was thick with tension, a suffocating weight that pressed down on all of them. The chaos Conrad had unleashed seemed to creep into every corner of their lives, and the once serene refuge of their home now felt like a battleground.

It all came to a head late one night when Noah stormed into the living room, his face dark with frustration. In his hand, he held yet another planted piece of evidence: a forged email implicating Camille in a fraudulent business scheme. The screen of his laptop glared angrily from the coffee table, displaying the damning message Conrad’s associates had crafted.

“I can’t take this anymore!” Noah’s voice echoed through the room as he began pacing, his usual calm demeanor shattered. “Every time we think we’re a step ahead, he finds another way to strike. It’s like he’s always one move ahead of us!”

Matthew looked up from where he was sitting, his jaw tight but his eyes calm. “We’ll figure it out, Noah. We always do.”

“No!” Noah snapped, spinning to face him. “Do we? Because every time we think we’re closing the gap, he pulls the rug out from under us. How much longer can we keep this up?”

Camille sat on the couch, her knees drawn to her chest, watching the exchange with growing unease. She could feel the pressure building, a storm brewing in the room.

Leo, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, let out an exasperated sigh. “What do you want us to do, Noah? Run? Hide? We’re doing everything we can to protect her, but we can’t control everything Conrad throws at us!”

“And that’s the problem!” Noah shot back, his voice rising. “We’re always reacting. We’re not taking the fight to him. We’re just waiting for the next blow.”

Leo pushed off the wall, his frustration flaring. “Oh, so it’s my fault now? You think I’m not doing enough? That any of us aren’t?”

“I didn’t say that,” Noah replied through gritted teeth. “But maybe if we had a plan instead of just—”

“Enough!” Camille’s voice cut through the room, sharp and trembling. Both Noah and Leo froze, their words caught in their throats. She stood, her fists clenched at her sides, tears streaming down her face. “Stop it! Both of you!”

The silence that followed was deafening. Even Matthew, who had been watching quietly, looked startled by the force of her outburst.

Camille’s voice broke as she continued, her tears falling freely. “This is exactly what Conrad wants—to tear us apart. Don’t you see that? Every fight, every moment we’re not united, he’s winning. And I can’t… I can’t do this if we’re at each other’s throats.”

Her words hung in the air, raw and heavy with emotion. Noah’s shoulders slumped, and he looked away, guilt flashing across his face. Leo ran a hand through his hair, muttering something under his breath, his anger ebbing as the reality of her words sank in.

Noah was the first to move. He crossed the room in a few long strides and pulled Camille into his arms. She let out a soft sob as she leaned into his chest, her hands gripping his shirt.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, his voice thick with regret. “I just… I hate feeling helpless. I hate knowing he’s doing this to you, to us, and I can’t stop it. It’s killing me, Camille.”
