Between Four of Us

The Depths of Betrayal

Ch. 106 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

The headlines hit like a storm, each one sharper and more damning than the last. “Polygamous Heiress Scandal Shakes High Society,” read one. Another blared: “Three Husbands, One Baby: The Shocking Life of Camille Laurent.” Camille stared at the glowing screen of her phone, the words swimming in her vision.

She couldn’t breathe. The photos accompanying the articles were even worse—paparazzi shots of her and the brothers, their private life now splashed across every gossip site and tabloid. The worst part was the twisted narrative, spinning their love into something lurid and grotesque.

“Turn it off.” Matthew’s voice broke through her spiraling thoughts. He plucked the phone from her trembling hands and set it on the counter, his jaw tight. “You don’t need to see any more of garbage.”

“I can’t ignore it,” Camille whispered, her voice hoarse. “Everyone is talking about us. My family, our baby—”

“They can talk all they want,” Leo interrupted, his tone sharp but laced with warmth. He pulled her close, his arm wrapping protectively around her shoulders. “Let them talk. They don’t know the truth about us, and they never will.”

Camille leaned into his embrace, but the ache in her chest didn’t subside. The media frenzy wasn’t the only attack. Over the past few days, anonymous threats had become a terrifying constant. Letters slipped under their door, scrawled with hateful words. Emails filled with venom, condemning her for her choices. Voicemails that sent chills down her spine.

“Slut. Whore. You don’t deserve that child,” one had hissed.

Noah had listened to the message first, his face dark with rage as he deleted it. But the damage was done. No matter how much the brothers tried to shield her, Camille could feel the walls closing in. Every hateful word echoed in her mind, planting seeds of doubt she couldn’t shake.

The breaking point came one evening as they sat in the living room, trying to make sense of the chaos. Noah’s laptop was open on the coffee table, a spreadsheet of Camille’s financial records pulled up on the screen. His expression was grim as he clicked through the files.

“These accounts aren’t yours,” he said, his tone clipped. “Look at this—someone’s been opening bank accounts in your name and moving money through them.”

Camille’s stomach dropped. “What? That’s not possible. I don’t even know about these accounts.”

“Conrad,” Matthew said immediately, his voice cold. He paced the room, running a hand through his hair. “This has his fingerprints all over it.”

“Why would he do this?” Camille asked, her voice trembling. “What’s the point?”

“Leverage,” Matthew replied without hesitation. “He’s building a case against you. If he can make it look like you’re involved in fraud or money laundering, he’ll use it to take everything—your reputation, your child, us.”

Leo’s fists clenched at his sides. “He doesn’t just want to destroy you, Camille. He wants control, and he’ll use every dirty trick he knows to get it.”

Noah’s fingers flew across the keyboard, his eyes narrowing as he pulled up more data. “It’s worse than we thought,” he muttered. “These transactions connect to shell companies—companies owned by Conrad’s associates.”

Matthew froze mid-step. “What kind of associates?”

Noah glanced up, his expression grim. “The kind that don’t care about legalities. This isn’t just revenge—it’s a setup. He’s orchestrating this to force your hand.”

Camille’s hands shook as she clutched a blanket around her shoulders. “What does he want from me? Why go to these lengths?”

“Because he’s not just after you,” Matthew said, his voice low. “He’s after your father’s legacy. Whatever secrets your father was hiding, Conrad wants them. And he thinks you’re the key.”

“But I don’t know anything,” Camille said, her voice breaking. “I’ve told you that. Whatever my father was involved in, he never told me.”

“That doesn’t matter to Conrad,” Leo said, his tone bitter. “He thinks you know, and until he gets what he wants, he’s going to keep coming after you.”

That night, as the brothers strategized in hushed voices, Camille sat by the window, staring out into the darkness. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to block out the fear clawing at her chest. The shadows outside seemed to stretch and shift, pressing against the glass like a living thing.

Her phone buzzed on the table. She jumped, her heart racing as she snatched it up. Another unknown number. Her finger hovered over the decline button, but something stopped her. Against her better judgment, she answered.

“Camille,” Conrad’s voice purred through the line. “I trust you’re enjoying the show?”

Her breath hitched, her grip tightening on the phone. “You’ve made your point. What do you want?”

Conrad chuckled, a low, sinister sound. “What I’ve always wanted, my dear niece. Control. You can resist all you like, but the world is already turning against you. Your precious husbands, your child—soon, they’ll all be mine. Unless, of course, you’re willing to cooperate.”

“You’re insane,” Camille hissed, her voice trembling with anger. “You won’t get away with this.”

“Oh, but I already have,” Conrad replied smoothly. “And if you doubt me, just wait. The next step is already in motion.”

The line went dead, leaving Camille staring at her phone, her pulse racing. Across the room, Matthew, Noah, and Leo turned to her, their expressions a mix of concern and fury.

“What did he say?” Matthew demanded, striding toward her.

Camille’s hands shook as she set the phone down. “He’s not done,” she whispered. “And he’s going to make sure we all pay.”
