Between Four of Us

Chapter 70

Ch. 70 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

After a long week of planning the move to her new house and preparing for the baby, Camille was exhausted but excited. The house had come together beautifully, thanks to the support and efforts of Leo and Matthew, who had made every step of the process feel meaningful. Now, she finally had a space that felt like her own, a place where she could envision a future filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of family.

One Friday evening, Leo called her, his tone playful and mysterious. “Hey, Camille. How would you feel about getting out of the house for a bit?”

She laughed, grateful for the thought. “Honestly, I’d love that. I’ve been buried in boxes and furniture assembly instructions all week.”

“Perfect,” he replied, a smile in his voice. “Dress comfortably. Matthew and I will pick you up in an hour.”

Curious and intrigued, Camille agreed. When they arrived to pick her up, she found them waiting with a picnic basket and a cozy blanket in the backseat.

Matthew smiled as he opened the car door for her. “We thought it was time you had a break. You deserve it.”

They drove to a scenic overlook on the edge of town, a quiet spot surrounded by hills and wildflowers, where the stars shone brightly above them. It was one of Camille’s favorite places—a spot she had shared with them before, but tonight felt different. The air was filled with a gentle, shared anticipation, as if this evening were a special moment just for them.

Once they’d laid out the blanket, Leo unpacked the basket, revealing fresh fruits, cheese, and her favorite chocolate. “We brought the best spread we could find,” he said with a wink. “And maybe even something special for dessert.”

Camille laughed, touched by the effort they’d put into the evening. “You two are spoiling me.”

“You deserve it,” Matthew said softly, meeting her gaze with a warm intensity. “You’ve been through so much, Camille. Tonight’s just about us spending time together, making some new memories.”

As they settled onto the blanket, Leo poured sparkling water into glasses, raising his in a toast. “To family,” he said, his voice light but meaningful. “To new beginnings and all the good things ahead.”

They clinked glasses, and Camille felt her heart swell with gratitude and joy. The three of them sat close, laughing and sharing stories under the night sky, the warmth of their bond feeling more real than ever.

At one point, as they shared stories from the past, Leo leaned in, his hand brushing Camille’s. “You know, you’ve brought something into our lives that we didn’t even know was missing,” he said, his voice low and sincere. “You’ve made us feel like we’re part of something bigger.”

Camille felt her cheeks warm under his gaze. “Leo…”

He looked at her, his usual playful expression softening. “You mean so much to us, Camille. Not just because of everything we’ve been through, but because of who you are.”

Matthew nodded, his own gaze filled with the same quiet intensity. “You’re part of us now, Camille. You always will be.”

A comfortable silence fell over them, the cool night air and soft sound of crickets creating a peaceful backdrop. Camille looked from Leo to Matthew, her heart racing as she realized the depth of her feelings for them both. She had always been close to them, but this moment, surrounded by their warmth and understanding, felt different.

Feeling the pull of the moment, Camille looked up at Matthew, who reached out, gently tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. His hand lingered, his gaze searching her face.

“Camille,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. “I know it’s complicated, but… I’ve wanted to do this for a long time.”

Slowly, he leaned in, his lips brushing softly against hers. The kiss was tender, filled with the gentleness and steadiness that defined Matthew. Camille felt her heart swell, her hands finding his as she kissed him back, the warmth of his touch grounding her.

When they pulled back, her gaze met his, and a shy smile tugged at her lips. But before she could say anything, she felt Leo’s hand on her shoulder. She turned to him, finding his eyes filled with the same warmth, the same longing.

“Camille,” he said, his voice low and filled with emotion. “I care about you, deeply. More than I can even say.”

Without another word, he leaned in, his lips meeting hers in a kiss that was softer, yet more playful, reflecting his vibrant spirit. Camille felt herself melt into his touch, a soft laugh escaping her as they pulled back, their foreheads resting together.

She looked between them, overwhelmed by the emotions coursing through her. They both gazed at her with expressions of tenderness and devotion, and she knew that no matter what, she was surrounded by love.

“This… this feels like a dream,” she murmured, her voice barely audible.

Matthew took her hand, his thumb gently stroking the back of it. “It’s real, Camille. We’re here, and we’re not going anywhere.”

Leo chuckled softly, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. “You’ve got both of us, whether you like it or not.”

Camille laughed, feeling tears prick at the corners of her eyes. “I wouldn’t want it any other way,” she whispered.
