Between Four of Us

Chapter 64

Ch. 64 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

Camille’s heart pounded as she stared at Noah, waiting for him to continue. The peaceful day they’d shared now felt like a distant memory, the urgency in his expression pulling her back into the tangled web of her father’s secrets.

Noah took a deep breath, his face tense. “It seems that, after the files were released, someone with ties to your father’s work reached out. They claimed they have information he kept hidden even from us.”

Camille frowned, a surge of confusion mixed with dread. “What information? I thought we’d uncovered everything.”

Matthew chimed in, his gaze focused and serious. “That’s what we thought, but this person insists there’s another layer to your father’s work—something he was hiding even from his closest allies. They’ve asked to meet with you directly.”

Camille felt her stomach twist. After everything she’d been through, another layer to her father’s secrets was the last thing she’d expected. She had thought that once the files were released, the truth had come to light and the people responsible for his death would finally be exposed. But this new development cast a shadow over that belief, leaving her questioning just how much of her father’s life remained hidden.

Leo reached for her hand, squeezing it gently, his expression filled with concern. “You don’t have to do this, Camille. You’ve already done so much. If this person is dangerous…”

But Camille shook her head, a strange resolve settling over her. “No. I need to know. If there’s still something left unfinished, I owe it to my father—and to myself—to find out what it is.”

The brothers exchanged glances, a silent agreement passing between them. They would stand by her, no matter where this path led.

The following day, they arranged to meet the mysterious contact at a secluded park on the outskirts of the city. Camille’s heart raced as she stepped out of the car, feeling the weight of the brothers’ protective presence beside her. She was nervous, but their steady gazes and comforting proximity gave her strength.

As they approached a shaded bench, a figure stepped out of the shadows. Camille’s breath caught as she recognized him—a man she hadn’t seen since she was a child, a man her father had referred to as “Uncle Dominic.”

Dominic’s face was etched with lines of experience and weariness, his dark eyes betraying a hint of sorrow as they met hers. He gave her a faint, bittersweet smile. “Camille. You look so much like your father.”

Camille’s emotions swirled as she tried to process his sudden appearance. “Uncle Dominic… What are you doing here? I thought you disappeared years ago.”

He sighed, glancing down. “I did. I had to, for your father’s sake—and yours. But I never truly left. I kept an eye on you, waiting for the right moment to come forward. After seeing the files go public, I knew the time had come.”

Camille exchanged a confused look with the brothers, who were all watching Dominic with suspicion. Noah took a step forward, his voice calm but firm. “If you have information about her father, now’s the time to share it.”

Dominic nodded, his gaze softening as he looked back at Camille. “Your father and I… we were part of something larger. The organization he was trying to dismantle—it was only one piece of a much bigger puzzle. He hid a crucial piece of evidence, something that could unravel more than just the secrets of those files. He called it the ‘Rosetta Code.’ It’s a master key—a way to decode the hidden operations of powerful figures across the world. If it fell into the wrong hands…”

Camille’s heart skipped a beat, a mix of fear and awe flooding her. “And he hid this… Rosetta Code? Where?”

Dominic hesitated, a flicker of sadness crossing his face. “He didn’t trust anyone with its location. Not even me. But he left clues for you, Camille. Clues hidden within the files. He always believed that you would be the one to carry on his legacy if he couldn’t. That’s why I had to find you.”

Camille felt a wave of emotion crash over her. Her father had planned for this all along, trusting her to be the one to uncover the truth. The brothers stood close by, their support a comforting weight as she grappled with this revelation.

“So, what now?” she asked, her voice trembling slightly. “Do we go back to the files? Look for the clues he left?”

Dominic nodded, his expression grave. “Yes. And be careful. Now that the files are public, more people will be after the Rosetta Code. You’re not just dealing with the organization anymore. There are others who would do anything to get their hands on this.”

Camille looked to the brothers, who each gave her a reassuring nod. Noah’s gaze held an unspoken promise, Leo offered a playful grin to lighten the tension, and Matthew’s steady presence reminded her that they were all in this together. She took a deep breath, feeling a surge of determination.

“Then we’ll do it,” she said firmly. “We’ll finish what my father started.”

Dominic’s eyes glistened with pride and regret. “Your father would be proud of you, Camille. You’re stronger than you know.”

He left shortly after, disappearing as quickly as he had come. The four of them returned to the safe house, a new mission weighing on their minds. Camille felt the responsibility more deeply than ever but also a sense of clarity. This was her choice now, not just her father’s legacy.

That evening, the brothers gathered around her, offering quiet encouragement as they discussed how to decipher the clues hidden in the files. As they talked, Camille couldn’t ignore the feeling of warmth that blossomed every time one of them looked at her, each in his unique way. She knew that she felt a pull toward each of them, and she knew they felt the same.

At one point, as the discussion wound down, Leo caught her eye and flashed a mischievous grin. “We’ve been through a lot today,” he said, a twinkle of humor in his gaze. “How about we unwind a little?”

Camille raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. “What did you have in mind?”

Leo leaned back, glancing between Noah and Matthew. “How about a card game? Loser has to do whatever the winner asks.”

The challenge in his voice was contagious, and soon, the four of them were laughing and playing, the weight of their mission momentarily forgotten. Camille felt a lightness she hadn’t felt in ages, the brothers’ company filling the room with warmth and joy.

As the night deepened, the games turned into quiet conversations, and eventually, they all settled on the couches and chairs around her, a comfortable silence settling over them. Camille felt herself growing drowsy, lulled by the comforting presence of the three brothers.

As she closed her eyes, she heard a quiet murmur, a soft promise from each of them: “We’re with you, Camille. No matter what.”

The next morning, she woke to find them still by her side, each of them watching her with the same steady, unwavering devotion. The bond between them felt unbreakable, strengthened by everything they had faced together.

But just as she began to smile, her phone buzzed with a new message. She glanced down, her heart pounding as she read the text:

“I know about the Rosetta Code. I’m coming for you, Camille. — J.”

Her blood ran cold, and she looked up at the brothers, fear and determination mingling in her eyes. The past wasn’t done with her yet. The next chapter was only beginning.
