Kingsley's POV
Freya sank into deep contemplation after hearing Eric's words. She then lifted her head, gazing at Eric, and remarked, "It appears that everything goes well as we planned."
Eric nodded, wearing a serious expression.
"Throughout this time, I've been maintaining secret communication with my brother Henry and Mavis," Freya revealed. "Initially, I requested my brother to approach Mavis as the Moonlight Pack's Alpha, offering resources and support to the Snowwolf Pack."
"Indeed, Mavis' father was elated upon learning of this proposal. He promptly instructed Mavis to ensure a partnership with my brother," Freya continued. "With Mavis's help, my brother Henry successfully dispatched a group of formidable members, ostensibly tasked by Alpha Henry of the Moonlight Pack to deliver supplies and establish a warehouse."
"Of course, on the surface, they were simply following orders from Alpha Henry to collaborate with the Snowwolf Pack," Eric added.
"It's just..." Freya frowned, expressing concern. "Did Robert, Grace, and the others not suspect anything when Mavis had to return suddenly this time?"
"Mavis explained that her father wanted to meet Alpha Henry in person this time, so she will be accompanying your brother," Eric clarified.
I had heard from the rogues during our skirmish that they were under orders to facilitate this plan.
Now, as Freya mentioned Robert's name again, I quickly pieced together the events in my mind.
It seemed that after my disappearance, Robert, lurking in the shadows, couldn't resist emerging to take control of the pack with the support of my stepmother, Grace.
Moreover, it appeared that Freya and Mavis had reached some form of agreement.
I yearned to comprehend everything, yet all I could manage when I tried to speak was a plaintive wolf whimper.
I despised my own helplessness, especially my reluctance to let my beloved mate confront the enemy alone, forging ahead of me.
Freya turned her head to look at me and gently patted my head. "Don't worry; you'll know everything soon."
Late at night, I lay down next to Freya. As I observed her already sleeping form, I got up and moved over, placing my head at the small of her belly, quietly feeling the heartbeat inside her body.
Freya seemed to be sleeping uneasily. Suddenly, she stirred, and I heard her sleepy voice. "Kingsley..."
A wave of complex emotions instantly flooded my heart. I glanced at the moon outside the window and then at Freya, who was still frowning in her slumber.
Since Eric had mentioned that my power was still asleep, and that was why I remained in the state of a wolf, I wondered if I could recover by attempting to awaken my power.
In the next second, I jumped out of the window.
Early the next morning, after a night of training, I wearily dragged my tired body through the window and jumped inside. I climbed into bed, then burrowed into Freya's arms, and soon fell into a deep sleep.
I didn't know how long I slept, but I was suddenly awakened by a loud bang.
I lifted my head and rushed downstairs only to hear a voice I hated.
"Freya! I came to see you!"
I looked up to see Henry's underhanded face. Glancing at the rickety door he had forced open next to him, I felt a wave of speechlessness.
"Huh? Where'd the dog come from?" Henry quickly noticed me and said in his annoying voice.
"A dog? I'm clearly a wolf! You idiot!" I yelled at him in my heart.
I showed my teeth angrily at Henry.
"Kim, sit down!" Freya's voice came, and I turned my head to see her coming out of the kitchen.
"Henry, when are you going to change your sassy behavior? You're not going to find a mate like that," Freya complained.
Henry's face reddened suspiciously at the mention of a mate.
Freya obviously noticed this as well. She looked at Henry with interest and then teased, "What? Does that mean you've already met your mate?"
I pricked up my ears, eager to find out who was unfortunate enough to be Henry's mate.
Henry said awkwardly, "Not yet. I don't know her feelings yet."
At the end of the sentence, Henry squirmed in an unusual way, making me feel a little queasy.
"Speaking of which, why is there a dog here?" Henry redirected the conversation back to me.
Immediately alert, I looked at Freya with pleading eyes, hoping she wouldn't disclose to Henry that I was Kingsley.
After all, as Freya's brother, Henry had always harbored a grudge against me for what I had done to Freya in the past, targeting me at every opportunity. If he found out I was now just a wolf, he would have undoubtedly mocked me.
"He... Um..." Freya glanced at me for a moment, then said, "is my pet, called Kim. Besides, he's a wolf, not a dog."
Thank goodness Freya understood my silent pleas.
"A pet? How come I didn't know you had one?"
However, the next moment, my body was unexpectedly airborne. Henry held me in mid-air and scrutinized me carefully from head to toe.
"Well, I came here and saved him in the snow by accident," Freya explained.
"Wait," Henry interrupted suddenly, bringing his face closer to mine, his look serious.
Nervously, I looked at him, concerned that he might notice something.
"Freya," he said, "have you noticed that your pet looks a lot like Kingsley? Both black wolves, and the look in his eyes."
Freya hurried over, took me from Henry, and placed me on the ground.
Then, she turned to Henry, asking, "By the way, is everything set? Where's Mavis? Didn't she come to Snowland with you?"
As soon as Freya spoke, the suspicious blush on Henry's face from earlier reappeared.
He rubbed his nose, his eyes twinkling, and replied, "After we met her father, Alpha Craig kept her stay, saying there were some things he needed to discuss with her. I'm guessing Alpha Craig wanted to ask Mavis about the Shadowmoon Pack and you."
