Love Me, Or Reject Me

Chapter 86 The Deal With Mavis

Ch. 86 / 120 Dec 11, 2024

Freya's POV

"It's good to see you again, Freya!" Robert's voice was as repugnant as ever. His eyes were currently running over my body in disgust.

For a split second, I couldn't help but vomit.

The temperature around Robert instantly became icy cold when he saw my reaction.

"You don't have to talk to her, Robert," Grace's viper-like voice rang out. "Just grab her and banish her from the pack!"

She said with hatred, then tried to wink at those bodyguards. The group of bodyguards instantly rushed forward.

"Who dares to touch me! I am the Luna of the pack. Aren't you afraid of the wrath and punishment from the Alpha?" I looked at them coldly, anger rolling through my heart.

Grace, however, let out a sudden burst of laughter. "Alpha? Oh, poor Freya, your Alpha is dead!"

In an instant, my blood turned cold at her words.

"What did you say?" I asked incredulously.

Grace's face became contorted, her tone filled with hatred and the smoothness of great revenge. "Yes, you heard right! Your Alpha is dead! Dead under an avalanche, buried by the snow!"

An avalanche? A sharp pain surged through my heart as I remembered that dream I had.

Could that dream of mine be true?

"Kingsley can be such an idiot!" Grace was still babbling to her heart's content, screaming and venting her hatred. "All it took was a slight trick on our part to make you pass out at the party and wait for an opportunity to spread the news of your infertility. He squared up in defense of you, even willingly accepting the King's terms to make you the Luna of the Pack. At the Snowwolf Pack, we deployed early on, just waiting to kill him as soon as he arrived at Snowland. The Rogues that we had arranged to be there waiting to take his life started hunting him down. I have to admit that Kingsley had a bit of a knack for evading so many rogues for so many days, and it wasn't until yesterday that our men were able to overcome him."

I couldn't control the trembling of my body as I absorbed Grace's words; my mind refused to accept the news of Kingsley's death for a moment.

I closed my eyes, suppressing the pain within.

It just felt wrong.

If Kingsley were truly gone, the bond between him and me would cease to exist. However, I could still feel the mark on my neck burning slightly.

Grace mentioned that Kingsley was buried under a heavy snowfall. What if...

What if he was not dead?

While pondering this, I heard Robert, who had been silent until now, suddenly speak up and declare to the crowd, "Now that Alpha Kingsley is dead, as his cousin, I will take over and lead the Shadowmoon Pack in his place, including his Luna."

As he uttered the last sentence, his repulsive eyes greedily fell on me again.

"No, there's no way I can fall into their hands. I have to escape and find Kingsley!" I thought to myself.

My eyes turned amber in an instant at the thought.

As Robert tried to reach out and touch me, I leaped up, transforming into a massive white wolf. In the next second, I let out a roar.

"Grab her! She's trying to escape!" Grace's shrill voice echoed.

The bodyguards lunged at me again. I whipped my massive tail, instantly taking down a few of the bodyguards.

Seizing the opportunity, I tried to charge towards the door, but Robert, agilely transforming into his wolf form, blocked my path and tackled me to the ground.

I roared in anger and attempted to fight back, but in the next moment, my strength disappeared, and I collapsed to the ground.

Robert, now back in his human form, crouched in front of me, gazing down, then reached out and squeezed my throat.

As his hand gradually tightened, my breathing became difficult.

Just when I thought I might be strangled to death, he suddenly loosened his grip, gently caressed my face, and said, "I can't let you die yet. After all, I haven't enjoyed you properly."

After uttering those words, he clapped his hands, and soon after, I witnessed two servants entering the room.

"Take her back to her room and keep an eye on her," Robert commanded.

"Mavis, thanks to your cooperation. Please inform your father that I'm satisfied and will uphold my promise to him!"

As Robert ascended the stairs, I overheard him relaying these words to Mavis.

Glancing back at Mavis, who stood obediently beside Robert, I suddenly recalled the morning's glass of milk.

Late at night, under the moonlight seeping through the window, I abruptly rose from my bed. As I assessed my strength, a small smile graced my face. With skillful precision, I maneuvered out the window and descended into the adjacent room.

It was Mavis' room.

"What is it?" Sensing an intruder in her room, Mavis let out a startled cry in the darkness.

"It's me, Freya!" I replied calmly.

Emerging from the shadows, Mavis stepped into the moonlight, and I discerned the surprise in her eyes. "Haven't you already..."

"Already what? Are you saying I've lost my powers?" I chuckled softly. "I'm sorry to disappoint you; I haven't lost my powers. And it's all thanks to your reminder."

"My reminder?" Mavis visibly flinched, appearing confused by my statement.

"Yeah, didn't you caution me not to trust anyone, including you?" I teased, meeting her gaze.

Mavis avoided eye contact with some embarrassment, then said, "I don't understand what you're talking about. But since you haven't lost your power, perhaps you should seize the opportunity to escape instead of seeking me out."

Observing Mavis, who continued to kindly advise me to flee, I smiled and said to her, "You know why I came to you, Mavis. I need your help."

Mavis was silent for a moment, then showed a bitter smile and said, "I don't think I can help you much. As you can see, I'm just a pawn being used by my father for trade."

I looked at her, my tone serious and earnest. "No, I don't think so. You're a lot smarter than I thought, Mavis. I believe you're better than your father. Your pack would be better off under your leadership, and I promise that my pack will do all it can to help and support yours. Besides, are you truly willing to be a pawn at the mercy of others?"

As far as I know, Mavis's father, being incompetent and a typical man who believed that men were always better than women, had always ignored Mavis's abilities.

He thought Mavis's value lied only in marriage with other packs for the greater good of his own pack. However, I could see Mavis's ambition and ability.

Sure enough, after hearing my words, Mavis lowered her head and fell into silence. Only after a long time did she whisper, "But Alpha Kingsley is dead."

"No!" I walked over and took her hand, then firmly said, "He's not dead! I can feel it! I just need your help. I need your people to take me to Snowland and help me find him!"

"And..." Seeing that Mavis was still hesitant, I resolved to up my ante. I walked over to her and leaned close to her ear, then whispered a sentence.

To the naked eye, I saw Mavis's eyes widen instantly with shock.

"Really?" Mavis asked me incredulously. "But they all said..."

I nodded, then put up a finger to my lips in a shushing motion.

Receiving my affirmative reply, Mavis finally stopped hesitating. "Okay, deal sealed!"
