Love Me, Or Reject Me

Chapter 106 Kingsley's Secret

Ch. 106 / 120 Dec 11, 2024

Kingsley's POV

It was a new day when Freya woke up again, and sunlight streamed into the hospital room, illuminating her face. I had been sitting on the edge of the bed to her left, eagerly awaiting her awakening.

Freya spotted me as soon as she turned her head.

"Kingsley..."

Freya's eyes widened; her body was still a bit weak, and she couldn't reach out to touch me even if she wanted to.

Nevertheless, I kept my focus on her and promptly took her small hand.

With my warm and sturdy grip on her delicate hand, I remained silent, the other hand gently stroking Freya's forehead. In this moment, I couldn't conceal my emotions and affectionately kissed Freya's forehead.

"Freya..."

My Freya, thank you for coming back to me.

I had fainted yesterday upon hearing about Freya's improvement, causing concern among many. Upon waking up, I summoned the strength in my frail body to eat, shower, shave off my beard, and don new clothes.

I wanted Freya to see me as the powerful, spirited Kingsley, not the Kingsley with a sickly, lifeless appearance.

A few tears welled up in the corners of Freya's eyes. "Kingsley, you've lost weight."

"I'm sorry for worrying you."

My eyes reddened, and I almost cried as I tightly held Freya's hand.

"It's okay; I forgive you. Just not the next time, okay? Otherwise, I'll go with you, whether it's heaven or hell."

Freya's tears dampened the pillow, and her voice trembled. "No more, I won't let anything happen to me again. Not in this lifetime."

"Kingsley, have you seen our baby? He looks so much like you." Freya said excitedly, her eyes filled with joy.

At that moment, May brought our baby in. Clearly a newborn, his hair was unusually thick, and his large dark eyes resembled crystal-clear grapes, promising a future as a clever child.

His little hands and feet were chubby, cute as could be.

"Kingsley, have you named our baby yet?"

And I was stunned to hear it.

My heart was a mix of emotions.

I hadn't looked at our baby for the past few days, and I didn't even realize our baby turned out to be so adorable.

Especially those big flashing eyes, resembling Freya's eyes, innocent and quirky.

Now that Freya was out of danger and had returned to me, the anticipation and joy I initially felt for our child have reignited in my heart.

Looking into the pure amber eyes of my child in my arms, I could clearly feel the unique connection between him and me, and my mind even conjured up a future scenario of us running together in a meadow, with my child letting out an adorable wolf howl of excitement.

I was also ecstatic when I first learned that Freya was pregnant, as if a huge surprise had fallen from the sky, leaving me unsure of what to expect.

I rushed to Freya's side immediately, carefully caring for her while also protecting our child.

At first, I truly loved our child, feeling my blood running through Freya's body, listening to the faint but powerful wolf howl, a wave of euphoria that almost made my whole body tremble.

If Freya hadn't hemorrhaged during childbirth, hadn't been in a coma for three or four days, and hadn't almost left him forever,

Maybe I would have stayed up all night picking the most wonderful name for my own child from the day he was born.

Maybe I would have shared my happiness with everyone, just as I did before.

But there was no maybe—the love I had for our child initially was real, and the resentment I felt later was real.

The fact that his birth had almost cost me the most important person in my life made it impossible for me to face my child and not even visit him for the past few days.

At that moment, gazing at my child's chubby little face, I couldn't resist offering him my finger. My son soldiered on and grabbed it, uttering a string of cryptic baby talk that concluded with a toothless grin.

Though I couldn't comprehend it, it didn't prevent me from slightly quirking the corners of my mouth.

In this moment, I was profoundly certain that I loved our child, a product of Freya and me, and that I aspired to provide him with the best the world had to offer.

Let it forever remain a secret that I had once been on the verge of developing an aversion to my own son.

"Leo."

After a moment of contemplation, I solemnly expressed my desire for our child to be as brave as a lion, the strongest warrior he could become.

"Leo? What a fantastic name, Kingsley, you hold our baby," Freya impatiently interjected, seemingly sensing the subtle emotions I harbored for our son.

I scanned over the little one in May's arms, and with May's assistance, I steadied myself and cradled our baby.

"You need to support his head and relax your body a bit."

"It's your baby, not a landmine; you don't have to be so careful and scared," May teased.

A fine sweat broke out on my forehead before I held Leo close.

My clumsiness elicited giggles from Freya as she turned to me and said, "Hold Leo a little closer; I want to get a better look at him."

"Uh-huh."

I carried Leo over to the bed and gently bent down so Freya could scrutinize our baby. Freya couldn't get enough of Leo; she reached out to touch his little head.

However, the moment her hand made contact, Freya froze.

"What's wrong?" Noticing her distress, I anxiously inquired.

Freya looked up at me with confusion and panic in her eyes. "Kingsley, he's not Leo! No, he is Leo, he's our baby, but he..." Freya spoke incoherently, overwhelmed by panic and helplessness.

As if Leo had sensed Freya's agitation, he too began to grow restless in my arms. At that moment, the wolf inside him emitted a faint howl.

However, upon hearing Leo's voice, Freya became even more agitated.

"They don't sound the same! That's not the voice I heard before I passed out in the delivery room!" Freya shouted, and I frowned, looking at Leo in my arms.

Could it be...

But I could clearly feel the blood connection between Leo and me, and Freya, as his mother, should be able to feel it as well. It couldn't be wrong.

Then what exactly did Freya mean by that?

Before I could say anything, Freya emotionally fainted in front of me.

"Freya!" I handed the baby to May to take down before rushing out to get a doctor.
