Freya's POV
After leaving Mavis' room, I let out a long breath.
I sighed and began pacing back and forth in my room, waiting to hear back from Mavis.
I'd made a promise, but I was not entirely sure what she was going to do. But I had to have faith-it was in her favor, so I had to trust that she wouldn't betray me.
But apparently, Mavis' actions came sooner than I thought.
I woke up early the next morning and heard someone talking outside my room.
"Ms. Mavis, you can't go in without Alpha Robert's permission." I heard the guard outside say.
Robert had made himself known as the Alpha of the pack ever since he took over running the pack with Grace's support.
I jumped up from my bed and rushed over to open the door.
That was when I heard Mavis' voice. "I didn't mean any harm. I just wanted to come and see her."
"Please go back, or else ..."
I opened the door and came face to face with Mavis.
"Ms. Freya, please stay in your room ..."
The guard stepped between Mavis and me. I looked over at her and realized she had Eric with her.
"Take it easy," she said to the guard, nodding her head in a way that seemed perfectly reasonable. "Look, I brought the doctor to check that the drug is still working in her system. I just wanted to make sure that her powers weren't starting to come back."
Then she said in a sincere and considerate tone, "If the drug in Freya's system loses its effect and allows her to regain her powers, it could have a bad effect on Alpha Robert. I don't think you want to suffer Alpha Robert's punishment for that."
She then stood her ground and looked at the guards silently, waiting for their response.
The guards frowned for a moment as they looked at each other. Then, finally, they gave in. "If you need anything, we're right outside the door," the senior one grumbled.
Mavis faked a smile and assured them, "Thanks, guys, but I think I'll be fine."
I closed the door as she and Eric entered my suite.
"We don't have much time, Mavis," I said. "What do I need to do?"
"Wait a moment," Mavis said, then gave Eric a wink.
Then Eric walked over to me.
I frowned and looked over at Mavis.
"I'm sorry, there's a lot at stake, so I have to be careful, please understand," Mavis explained.
I saw the instrument Eric pulled out and instantly understood what Mavis was trying to do.
It seemed Mavis didn't fully believe what I whispered in her ear last night either.
I wasn't angry in the face of Mavis's skepticism; on the contrary, it made me appreciate her even more and made me even more convinced that I'd found a smart ally.
And that meant the success of our plan would be much higher.
After some testing, Eric nodded to Mavis.
"So, what do I need to do?"
I asked calmly as I looked at Mavis who had gotten the definitive answer.
"It's going to be a bit of a rush..." Mavis frowned and exchanged a look with Eric.
Mavis hesitated for a moment, then looked to Eric. "What do you think?"
Eric just nodded affirmatively.
"Are you sure?" I was shocked that they were able to do something so quickly.
A small smile peeked from Mavis' face." Yes, if you want to leave tonight, it will happen."
Standing up, I walked towards the window and watched the dark clouds approaching in the sky.
"So," I said." Tell me all about the plan."
Mavis glanced at Eric. "Eric?"
Eric nodded, then proceeded to explain the whole plan.
"The party will begin at seven tonight. Most of the guards will be assigned to the event to ensure the safety of the guests. The women's washroom across from the main cafeteria has a window overlooking the gardens. I'll be waiting outside that window at eight."
Eric emphasized, "Be on time. Otherwise, we'll all get caught. Then I'll be responsible for taking you to Snowland."
"How far is Sonwland? What do I need to bring?" I wanted to gather as much information about the program as possible so I would know what to expect.
"It's about a five-hour run. You don't need to bring much, except some warm, thick clothes." Eric replied patiently.
"But once they find out, they'll be sure to send someone after you. Robert isn't one to give up easily," Mavis said with a sigh.
"If they dare to come after me, then only death will result for them," I replied coldly.
Soon it was time for our appointment.
I managed to rendezvous with Eric on time with Mavis' help.
According to the plan, we needed to get out of here first.
"This way," Eric said." Then... we would have to run through the woods for a couple of hours. I hope your wolf runs fast. After all..."
Eric didn't finish his sentence; instead, he just gave my belly a meaningful look.
I was silent for a second, then nodded.
After we quickly fled the villa, Eric turned to me and said, "Let's go!"
I shifted into my wolf form while Eric shifted into a large dark-colored wolf.
We then quickly took off running.
An angry howl suddenly came from the villa far behind us.
I had a feeling that Robert had noticed my escape.
"They found out!" I shouted to Eric. He didn't respond, but I felt him pick up speed.
But soon, I felt my strength draining away.
I began to feel a vague discomfort in my belly.
I slowed my run and then shifted into my human form.
I stopped and put my hand on my belly, feeling the faint heartbeat inside.
It was the baby Kingsley and I had been waiting for.
But he seemed to have come at a bad time, but I was still happy.
That night I whispered in Mavis's ear the fact that I was pregnant with Kingsley's child to enlist her help.
To make her realize that even if Kingsley was really dead, as they said, his child in my womb would be the next Alpha heir and would honor the pact between Mavis and me.
That was why Mavis had asked Eric to confirm the fact that I was pregnant.
Noticing that my speed was starting to drop, Eric stopped as well.
"Shit!" He couldn't help but explode as he watched me cover my abdomen, then he cocked his head at me, signaling me to get on his back.
I took his meaning and without much ado, I mounted his back; after all, the most important thing for us right now was to get out of here.
