Freya's POV
I felt like I was in the midst of a dream.
I found myself in a snow-covered valley, surrounded by snow that blocked my path forward. Eager to escape the snow, I tried to stand up, but each attempt ended with me falling to the ground.
Suddenly, in the not-so-distant distance, the sounds of a scuffle pierced the air. I glanced up and spotted Kingsley sprinting in my direction.
Bloodstains from his body contrasted vividly against the pristine white snow, making them particularly conspicuous.
"Kingsley!" I called out anxiously, but he passed through me as if I were invisible.
Close behind him, a group of rogues gave chase, seemingly oblivious to my presence as they rushed past me in pursuit of Kingsley.
I turned my attention back to Kingsley, who was now surrounded by the rogues. They relentlessly taunted and attacked him, and I could sense Kingsley gradually losing his strength.
Suddenly, Kingsley transformed into a massive wolf, emitting a powerful, menacing howl into the sky. The ferocity of his howl instantly frightened the rogues, preventing them from approaching easily.
Desperate, I struggled to reach them, but a loud bang shattered the valley's silence, followed by a deafening roar. It was as if an invisible force had galvanized the snowflakes in the sky, causing them to flutter down, forming a curtain of white snow.
The rogues, now terrified, turned to look behind me.
I followed their gaze and saw a colossal avalanche cascading down the distant mountainside.
Initially, the snowflakes fell gently, resembling a swarm of stars in a dreamy wonderland. However, as the avalanche gained momentum, the snow transformed into a furious rush, akin to a thousand horses thundering down.
Kingsley's wolf howl had triggered the avalanche, and its sheer scale resembled a massive white mountain pouring down, carrying an unstoppable destructive force.
The trees succumbed to the merciless onslaught, engulfed in the rolling white. Gusty winds wailed as if the earth itself were crying, echoing in all directions alongside the unstoppable might of the avalanche.
The avalanche rolled faster and faster, carrying tumbled rocks and hail with a rumbling roar. Soon, it was in front of us, engulfing the group of Rogues.
It all happened in an instant.
A second before Kingsley was about to be buried in snow, I yelled, "Kingsley!"
Kingsley suddenly turned back to me as if he had heard my shout. He looked around anxiously and said, "Freya!"
The next second, I yelped and woke up from my nightmare. It was then that I felt myself sweating profusely, and my back was soaked.
My heart clenched suddenly, as if someone had stabbed a knife and twisted it hard in the pit of my heart in pain.
A burning sensation emanated from the mark on my neck, and involuntary tears welled up in my eyes and ran down my cheeks.
For a split second, I felt the bond between Kingsley and me waning.
It had been over ten consecutive days since Kingsley left, and I had been out of touch with him for over ten days.
This dream...
My heart surged with a bad feeling. I gasped for air, but suddenly I heard voices talking faintly from Mavis' room on the second floor.
"Are you sure you want me to do this?" It was Mavis' cautious voice. I made my way to the door of Mavis's room and held my breath, suppressing the pain in my heart as I carefully discerned Mavis's words.
Who was Mavis talking to on the phone?
"But Alpha Kingsley won't allow it..." My heart lifted at the mention of Kingsley's name.
"What? How dare you touch him? It's an unforgivable sin to kill an Alpha, let alone him..."
Kill? What was Mavis talking about? Could it be...
A wave of surprise washed over me, and my hand pushed open the door to Mavis' room before my mind reacted.
"Kill who? Was it Kingsley?" I questioned angrily as I looked coldly at the surprised Mavis in front of me.
A sense of foreboding hit me as I thought about the dream I had just had and associated it with the words I had just heard.
I held back my inner grief, suppressing my wolf's cry of sorrow, and tried to remain calm.
Mavis' surprise only lasted a split second, and in the next instant, she regained her composure as she paused for a moment before replying, "I hadn't realized that it turns out, Luna Freya, that you have a penchant for eavesdropping."
"Answer my question!" I roared, having completely lost my patience.
Under my pressure, Mavis couldn't help but take a step back. In the next second, she raised her head, and with an inexplicable hint of both compromise and sympathy in her tone, she said, "I'm sorry, but I don't have an answer to your question. However, I'd like to remind you to be more careful. Also, don't trust anyone, including me."
After saying that, she pursed her lips and averted her gaze.
Seeing her reluctance to say more, my heart sank. Understanding that it was impossible to extract more information from her, I gave her a deep look before leaving with a heavy heart.
With slow, deliberate steps, I returned to my room. Lying on my bed, I pondered Mavis' words.
She wanted me to be more careful, but why? Was something significant going to happen soon? Also, why did she advise against trusting anyone, including herself?
I tried to recall recent events, but eventually, exhaustion overcame me, and I fell into a deep sleep.
When I woke up the next day and walked downstairs, Mavis had breakfast ready. She stood at the table as if nothing had happened, greeting me as usual.
"Good morning, Luna Freya," she said.
I nodded at her and walked over to take a seat at the table, beginning to enjoy my breakfast. Mavis brought me a glass of hot milk as I sat down.
I took it in silence and then set it on the table, choosing not to drink it.
"You don't need to do that," I said, looking up at Mavis. I glanced at the food on the table again. "After all, you're an Alpha Kingsley breeder, not a servant. Your job is to give birth to qualified heirs for the pack, not to make breakfast."
I spoke coldly, and Mavis paused for a moment upon hearing my words. Then she looked up at me with a smile. "Okay, Luna Freya."
I frowned at her smile. Usually, Mavis would have been angry and ashamed to hear me mention that she was a breeder, unlike today.
I gave her a cold glance before picking up the glass of milk and taking a sip. Strangely, I thought I heard a soft sigh.
Glancing again at Mavis, who was seated across from me, I wondered if the sigh had come from her. However, Mavis maintained her usual expression, quietly enjoying her breakfast.
Just as I pondered this, the room's door was suddenly kicked open from the outside with a loud snap.
In the next moment, a team of bodyguards rushed in.
Then, I saw Grace walk in with her head in the air, followed by a masked man.
The moment the man appeared, I caught a whiff of a familiar, disgusting odor.
It was Robert!
My eyes widened for a split second!
