Freya's POV
With Mavis' assistance, Eric and I returned to the Pack with Kingsley quickly and quietly, without incident.
We had received word that the day after tomorrow would be the day the King would announce Robert as the Alpha of the Shadowmoon Pack. Therefore, we chose to find a place to stay, settle down first, and then wait quietly.
Even though Robert had publicly declared himself as the Alpha of the Shadowmoon Pack, in reality, it was wishful thinking on his part, and the King hadn't acknowledged that.
I smiled slightly at the thought of the King. I'm sure that deep down, he was just as unwilling to accept Kingsley's death as I was, while also waiting for Kingsley's return. It was just that we both understood that a pack can't be without an Alpha for long.
The day soon arrived.
I gently pulled back the curtains, and the faint morning light poured into the room through the fine gauze. My mood was as serene as this morning, yet full of anticipation. Tonight, I would be attending a grand party—not just a social event but a momentous occasion for Kingsley and me.
I sat at my dresser, a soft ray of sunset light spilling over my elegant face. I gazed at myself in the mirror with confidence and grace in my eyes. Amy pushed in a rack of beautiful, colorful dresses and a huge black leather zippered case.
Her brother Eric had taken Kingsley to another city to see his teacher for help with therapy. Not long ago, Eric's teacher learned of Kingsley's condition and immediately showed great interest, confessing that he had read about a similar situation in a book and offered to help Kingsley with her treatment.
So, Amy stayed on to help me, and luckily, we had help sent by Mavis and my brother. They were Gamma Leavis and a pack of battle-hardened werewolves.
Regarding my brother, he claimed that Mavis had just become the Alpha of the Snowwolf Pack and must be inexperienced in managing the pack, so he volunteered to stay in Snowland to help Mavis. I couldn't help but smile at the thought.
"Are you ready?" Amy asked enthusiastically, bringing me back from my thoughts.
"Uhm... Amy, why do you have so many clothes ready?" I asked, letting my fingers run over the fabric hanging on the racks.
"Well, I don't know what you want to wear, so we're going to check out some options and try on whatever you prefer. But first, let's focus on hair and makeup."
"Thank you," I replied, offering her a small smile.
An hour later, I barely recognized the woman in the mirror. My hair cascaded in beautiful waves around my shoulders, framing my face perfectly. Smoky eye makeup accentuated my eyes, and the deep burgundy lips Amy had applied made them appear fuller and bolder on my face.
"Good. Now, take a look at these clothes and see what you like."
I walked slowly over to the coat rack and began perusing the options. My hand landed on a deep burgundy dress, its delicate lace shimmering in the light. At such an important party, I wasn't just representing myself but also Luna of a pack.
Carefully, I put on a pair of earrings, a delicate bracelet, and the Luna necklace that only the Luna of the Shadowmoon Pack could possess. Finally, I smiled slightly and adorned a veiled hat that covered half of my face just right.
With my entire outfit complete, I stood up, took a deep breath, and began walking towards the doors of the party.
The night was serene; starlight dotted the darkened sky, and a bright moon hung high above the banquet venue. As the lights illuminated the banquet hall, the stars on the gold-rimmed decorative walls reflected a dreamy atmosphere throughout the space.
A long banquet table graced the center of the hall, adorned with delicately carved chairs. The table showcased a wide array of food, the aroma overwhelming, and various dishes displayed like works of art.
The banquet scene played a melodious symphony, the harmonious melody of strings and orchestra echoing throughout the hall. Elegant dance music lingered in the air, and the guests on the dance floor twirled gracefully, resembling a beautiful painting.
And I sat quietly in the corner, unmoving, awaiting.
The atmosphere of the banquet gradually warmed, with the sounds of laughter, conversation, and music weaving together to create a scene of jubilation. The clear clinking of wine glasses filled the entire banquet hall with a festive spirit.
The king, adorned with a golden crown, sat solemnly and majestically on his throne, observing the members from various packs gathered within the palace.
"Dear subjects, I have an important announcement to make tonight." The king's voice resonated throughout the hall, its lowered tones transitioning into a solemn and dignified pitch.
All eyes turned towards the king.
"As you may already know, Kingsley, the Alpha of The Shadowmoon Pack, has unfortunately passed away. His pack is now in need of a new leader, someone capable of guiding them towards a more prosperous and peaceful future."
The king's gaze swept through the crowd, finally settling on a tall, imposing werewolf—Robert. His eyes exuded confidence and pride, as if he had long been prepared for the role. Seated beside him was none other than Grace.
"I hereby declare that, from this day forward, the leader of the Shadowmoon will be him..." The king pointed to Robert.
I knew the moment had come.
"I don't agree!"
Without allowing the king to finish his sentence, I stood up and walked forward with grace and confidence.
