Kingsley's POV
"Well, he just kicked me, and I couldn't help but scream when I didn't react for a moment."
Freya rubbed her belly gently.
It was the first time Freya's baby had moved. Freya cried and laughed as she shared her experience of feeling the baby move. I was on one knee; Freya was crying uncontrollably, and I had tears in my eyes.
"Freya, let me feel it again." Freya withdrew her hand, and I gently placed mine on her belly.
Our baby seemed to be attuned to Freya's and my intense emotional state. Across Freya's belly, he moved animatedly, one by one, as if responding to us.
"Baby, Daddy's saying hello to you, so move again." I pressed my face to Freya's belly, and our baby kicked playfully, almost as if teasing.
For a moment, I thought I heard a faint, lovely wolf howl, and an electric current surged through my entire body.
Pleased, I said, "Baby, kick Daddy again." Our baby responded actively.
"Kingsley, it looks like our baby is strong." Freya's tears just wouldn't stop, streaming down her face.
Even though I was a pack Alpha, my eyes were filled with tears, and a wave of indescribable happiness made me tremble slightly. My wolf couldn't help but let out a joyful howl, "Well, our baby is very lively, just like you."
I didn't stand up but spoke softly to our baby. "Baby, Mommy is having a hard time, so just rest now and don't move anymore, okay?"
Although I was excited that our baby was finally moving, I also worried about Freya's well-being, fearing that the vigorous fetal movements might make her uncomfortable.
"Okay, you can't take a bath now. Let me help you get dressed, and go back to bed now."
I had just experienced the violent surprise of fetal movement and could no longer handle Freya taking a shower by herself. I carried Freya straight back to bed.
"I won't let you take a bath by yourself today. I'm scared, Freya, really scared. Just let me slow down," I expressed my fear. Freya nodded obediently.
Lying on the bed at this point, Freya's emotions finally eased a bit. She looked at me tenderly and said, "Kingsley, you just cried."
"Yes, I cried, and I'm glad," I admitted.
I used to think I couldn't cry, no matter how many battle wounds I got. I didn't shed a single tear. Grace kept calling me an emotionless monster.
Growing up, I was indeed emotionally lacking, neither sad nor happy, and couldn't be interested in any feelings. It wasn't until I met Freya that I realized what love meant.
Love made me not like the Kingsley I used to be. I would shed tears because I was afraid something would happen to Freya, and I would shed tears of surprise when our child would move.
Even now, I not only want to cry but also want to go for a run, exercise, or contemplate all the people sharing the joy inside me.
"Right! I've got to share it. I've got to let everyone know I'm so happy that I'm going crazy."
With that in mind, I immediately pulled out my cell phone and started texting or calling my friends and family one by one to share my joy.
Freya's body was getting bulky, and her friends were extra worried.
Sometimes Novia couldn't help but video call Freya to ask her how she was doing and if the baby was behaving.
Freya would answer nicely in the video, "I'm fine, the baby is obedient and doesn't bother me at all. The maid will cook different dishes every day to give me nutrition. Kingsley will give me a massage every day for calf cramps and will also help me soak my feet."
Mavis and Freya's brother Henry would also join the video calls to ask Freya in detail.
As for why they are together, that was another story.
All in all, I never thought that Freya's once-mean brother, Henry, would one day become so clingy that he couldn't wait to be by Mavis' side 24 hours a day.
"Freya, have you been sleeping well lately?" Mavis asked thoughtfully. She knew that pregnant people were sensitive, so often, she would inquire more about how Freya was doing and her overall health.
On that note, Henry also reminded me to make sure I focused on Freya.
Freya appreciated their thoughtfulness and felt warm.
"Freya, did that Kingsley take good care of you? If he's not treating you well, be sure to let me know, and I'll make sure to kick his ass!" Henry resumed his usual snarky behavior towards me on the other end.
I really didn't understand why Mavis accepted him as her mate. But love was something that no one could understand, wasn't it?
Freya couldn't help but laugh at that. "Kingsley takes good care of me, so don't worry, Henry."
"Yeah? No, I'm still not sure about him, Freya. Why don't you go back to the Moonlight Pack so I can take care of you?" Henry continued.
Seeing that the situation was heading in the wrong direction, I hastily reached out my hand to take away the tablet. "Freya, how many times have I told you to play with the tablet less?"
This Henry, ever since Freya got pregnant, had been trying to persuade her to return to his pack.
Mavis and Henry haven't hung up the video yet.
"Kingsley, give Freya the tablet. I still have something to say to her," Henry said in a disgruntled voice on the video call segment.
"Henry, you know what's going on with Freya. She can't look at too many electronics right now; it's not good for her eyes. If you want a video in the future, call me on my cell," I said to Freya after hanging up the video call screen.
"Freya, did you not engage in any exercise today?"
Freya, noticing that the tablet had been confiscated by me once again, grew angry and pouted, refusing to speak.
I didn't know if it was due to pregnancy hormones, but I'd noticed Freya becoming increasingly childlike.
I continued to patiently encourage Freya to exercise.
"Freya, if you don't exercise, labor might be more painful. Listen to the nurse's advice on exercising; go and work out for another fifteen minutes, okay?"
Freya shook her head. "Ten minutes!" she bargained.
In the end, I was the one who gave in, and Freya would need to go to the gym for just ten minutes of exercise every day. I, of course, would be watching attentively.
Even after becoming pregnant and enjoying nutritious meals cooked by the maids, Freya still remained slim for a long time. It seemed like all the nutrition went straight to her belly, and combined with her long, slender limbs, her body appeared unusually thin. It horrified me to witness it every day.
During Freya's pregnancy test, I secretly consulted the doctor, who revealed that Freya's bones were small, and her pelvis wasn't large enough. This information made me anxious, fearing she might endure difficulties during a normal delivery.
I spent countless sleepless nights, leaving a light on when I went to bed, which Freya used when getting up at night. Sometimes, I would gaze at Freya's sleeping face under the night light, but on occasion, nightmares woke me up, and I would find it challenging to sleep for the rest of the night.
One day, a loud thunderclap startled me awake from a nightmare.
"Freya!"
I gasped, my back drenched in sweat, and with fear in my eyes. Relief washed over me when I saw Freya sleeping peacefully. However, my heart continued to beat violently.
In my dream, something terrible had occurred during Freya's labor, and large patches of blood blurred my vision.
