She was talking to one of the maids who excused them when Colt and Mia came in.
Victoria rose to her feet. She approached the duo, turning her attention to Mia first.
"Sweetheart, you look so beautiful," Vicky said with so much adoration in her eyes.
Mia couldn't help with the smile that overtook her face. "Thanks, Mom."
"You're welcome, love and I do believe that I owe you thousands of apologies. This is the second time we are meeting physically and I sincerely apologize for how I reacted the time I came over to your office. I tend to overreact when I'm angry or when things do not go my way. I'm very sorry, Mia and I promise that such will never repeat itself."
Mia smiled at how loving and humble Victoria was. She was apologizing again even after apologizing over the phone.
"It's fine, Mom. It's all in the past."
"So, can I hug you now?" Vicky smiled.
Mia engulfed her soon-to-be mother-in-law in a hug.
Colton couldn't help with the smile that crept to his lips. There they were! The two most important women in his life.
Sealing their hug with kisses on the cheek, Vicky went ahead to greet her Son. "Happy birthday darling! I can't believe my baby boy is 34. Where has time gone?"
"Mom!" Colton groaned, hugging her back.
They all laughed.
"Congratulations to you both on your engagement. May your days be filled with so much happiness." She said to Colt and Mia.
"Amen." Mia smiled.
"Thanks, mom," Colton said. "Thank you for planning this party. Everything looks so good and the guests are having a really good time."
"You should thank your wife too. She was of great help."
"My wife?" Colton reiterated with smiles all over his face.
Mia blushed.
"Of course, my dear. She has agreed to be your woman for life so she's your wife already. We are just waiting for it to be official. Have you guys come up with a date for the wedding yet?" She asked, looking at Colton, then Mia.
The two lovers took a glance at themselves. They've been so hyped about the pregnancy that they hardly thought of the wedding. If Mia wanted it before or after she had given birth.
"Actually, Mom, Mia wants to discuss something with you," Colton said with a small smile on his face.
"Sure, what is it, my dear?" Victoria turned her attention to Mia.
"Can we take a seat?" She gestured to where Vicky was previously seated before they came in.
"Sure!" Vicky said.
She intertwined her hand with Mia's own and led her to the sofa where they both sat down.
"I will go get us drinks!" Colton said. Not giving two fucks about his mother being there. He went to where they were seated, kissed Mia on the lips, then went to get drinks for them.
Vicky had a proud smile on her face. "He's so in love with you. Colton is never one to publicly display affection but he would kill for you. Your presence changed him for good. Thank you so much for loving him." She gave Mia's hands a light squeeze. It was then she noticed her gorgeous ring.
Victoria Royal's smile got even bigger. "Wow, wow, wow...This is so damn gorgeous. Congratulations once again, darling."
Vicky couldn't resist hugging Mia.
"So what is it you want to talk about?" She asked.
Mia heaved an internal sigh, opened her purse that had been with her all night, then took out a picture which she handed to Vicky.
It was an ultrasound picture and at the bottom edge of the picture, there was a handwritten sentence. "Hi, Grandma!"
"Oh my God!" Vicky said with a very happy smile on her face the moment she saw the picture.
Mia's heart melted when she saw happy tears in Victoria's eyes.
"Congratulations my love. This is great news." Victoria hugged Mia.
Mia smiled, returning the hug, "Thanks, Mom."
"Oh my God!" Victoria sniffled, looking back at the picture. She was trying so hard not to cry.
"From what I can see, it's still so tiny so I know it's still very young. But how far along are you?" Vicky couldn't help but ask.
"Soon to be eight weeks. We had our first ultrasound three days ago."
Victoria Intertwined one of her hands with Mia's own. "How are you? Hope the pregnancy isn't taking a toll on you already? No wonder why you are glowing wonderfully well!"
Mia blushed. "I'm fine, Mom. The baby is healthy too. The Doctor confirmed it."
"Apart from the morning sickness and the fact that I feel nauseous at times due to my now over-sensitive nose, everything is fine. Colton takes great care of yours."
"Of course he has to. You both are his priority. I'm so sorry about the morning sickness. You will see less of it once you're past your first trimester. I'm glad to hear that you and my grandbaby are doing great."
"Look, I know you have a loving husband who's extremely protective of you but I want you to know that I'll always be there for you. I'm only a phone call away. Wherever I am, in any part of the world, I'll come running to you. Don't hesitate to pick up the phone and call me whenever you need my help or when you need someone to talk to. Okay?"
Mia nodded. "Thank you, mom. This means a lot to me. That was why I wanted to talk to you about it first."
"This is my first time being a mother and I've only started to learn about motherhood. I'm thinking of enrolling in some classes too. I want to be the best mom I can be to this little bundle of joy. My mother is no more so I was hoping I would have you to always lean on. But you even offered to be there for me before I asked. I'm really grateful, Victoria." Mia was starting to tear up. She missed her mother so much and wished she was alive to share these beautiful moments with her but still, Mia was grateful to have amazing people in her life.
Victoria gave Mia's hand a light squeeze. "Please don't cry, my love. Instead, you should be happy. I have no doubt that Aria is proud of you. She's proud of the woman you've become and how you've managed to stand tall despite all of your struggles. I'm sure she's celebrating up there about being a grandmother. This gorgeous baby will not only know me as its grandmother. It will know Aria too and we will make him or her understand that Aria loves him or her beyond words."
"You know I already see you as my daughter; my flesh and blood. So there's nothing to worry about. I'll always have your back, Mia."
"You're a strong woman and I have no doubt that you will be a great Mother to this precious baby. You have nothing to fear, Mia. And on that note, I want you to enjoy every moment of your pregnancy. We will always be there for you. Both physically and in prayers. You have nothing to worry about, my love." Vicky said, then engulfed Mia in a motherly hug.
Now that Mia had confided in a motherly figure, She felt relieved, happy, and even more confident about embarking on this journey to motherhood.
Mia knew her elder Sister, Tessie, was going to be there for her. But she didn't want to be too much of a burden to Tessie, knowing Tessie had her hands full with two toddlers. Sure, she would still meet her sister for encouragement but a motherly assurance was also beneficial.
"Thank you so much, Mom," Mia whispered against Vicky's shoulder.
"I see that the cat has been let out of the bag." Colton smiled as he walked in with a glass of lemonade, seeing his mother and fiancée hugging.
"My babies are having a baby. I couldn't be prouder." Vicky kissed Mia on her forehead then rose to her feet to embrace Colton. He already put the glass of lemonade on a nearby table.
"Congratulations sweetheart. I've always been proud of you and I have no doubt that you will be a great father."
He smiled. "Thank you, Mom."
"I had gotten to the kitchen before I remembered that I didn't ask what drink you wanted." He said to his mother, handling Mia the lemonade.
She thanked him.
"My heart is full. I don't think I'm hungry or thirsty. Thank you for bringing her the lemonade. Don't forget to always make sure she stays hydrated."
Colton nodded.
"And make sure you continue to take good care of Mia and the baby."
"Sure, Mom. You have nothing to worry about."
"So I'm the first person to know? Thank you all for honoring me with the good news." Vicky smiled proudly.
"Yup. You're welcome. The rest will know later tonight."
"Is Richard aware of the baby?" She asked Colt who nodded.
"Damn. That dude! Your father and I were at the hospital yesterday morning for a checkup and he couldn't even give us a clue that we were grandparents."
Mia and Colton laughed.
"Confidentiality, Mother!" Colton said.
"Oh please," Victoria rolled her eyes at her Son.
Colton chuckled while Mia smiled.
"We should go back to our guests before they start wondering where we all are," Victoria suggested once Mia was done with her drink.
