Colt placed a long kiss on the side of Mia's forehead. "It's okay, my love. You're safe now. I promise that no harm will come near you again."
Mia continued to cry harder in Colton's chest.
"It's okay. Babe. You know I hate to see you cry. It's true that the situation could have been worse but I'm grateful that you're still here with me. Cry no more, my love. We should focus on you getting better." He said, wiping away her tears with his thumb. The more he wiped them away, the more those hot tears rolled down her cheeks.
Colton exhaled, trying to push back the tears in his eyes.
"I..I..No doubt I made you and everyone else worried. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry for not being careful enough. I'm sorry for putting our lives in danger."
"Nothing is your fault, dear. So you have nothing to be sorry for. You didn't deliberately put yourself in danger. I saw the CCTV footage of the person trailing you. I promise you he's going to die a painful death." Colton said. He purposely did not reveal who was trailing her. He was going to tell her eventually but he felt now wasn't the right time.
He cuddled her, whispered sweet words to her while caressing her hair until she calmed down a bit.
"With all that had happened, you came out strong! I've never seen anyone as brave as you, Mia."
"You're only saying that to make me feel better!" She sniffled.
He shook his head, raising her chin with his index finger. "You know I will never lie to you. And yes, I want you to get better for your own good and the sake of our..." Before Colton could complete his sentence, Mia chipped in.
"I understand. If not for myself, I have to get better for this precious one." She placed a hand on her belly. "I've been blessed enough to still have this baby with me and I will do everything in my power to continue to protect him or her. I'll get better for its sake, I promise." She said with her cracked voice, ignoring the soreness she was feeling all over her body.
Colton smiled sweetly at the love of his life. "Don't you think you're being a bit partial?"
"Partial?" She looked at him, confused.
Colton nodded. He placed his hand on top of hers that was on her belly, looking into her eyes intently.
"We are going to be parents to twins!"
Mia did nothing but stare at Colt with a plain expression, trying to process what he just said.
"What do you mean?" Mia finally whispered.
"Richard and Almira called me into the examination room. They showed me a recorded version of the emergency ultrasound they did for you. Turns out the second baby was hiding behind its sibling all this while. In a couple of months, we are going to be parents to two adorable humans and I have a strong feeling that it's going to be a girl and a boy."
"Tw....twins??" Mia's lips quivered. By this time, her eyes were glossy.
"Yes, my love. two precious jewels who are fighters just like their Mom. I'm so proud of you all" He said with so much adoration in his eyes. Both parents still had their hands on Mia's belly.
Mia closed her eyes for a second, making those hot tears roll down both of her cheeks at the same time.
She sniffled. "All this while, I've been carrying two lives in me?!"
"Yes, my love." He wiped away her tears but that didn't stop fresh tears from falling.
"The thought of losing one baby was killing me already. Not knowing I was responsible for two. I don't even want to think about the pains I would have been going through if I had lost them both."
"To think after all that has happened, I still have my little family with me. The man who I love so much and two little humans who are a product of our love. I'm beyond blessed Colton and I'm not going to deny that."
With her eyes closed, She placed her head back on his chest and sobbed, really grateful that her family was saved.
He placed a kiss in the middle of her hair. "It's okay my love. Please cry no more. I would like you to forget all that has happened and let's just focus on your health. You have no fucking idea how Thankful I am to still have you and our growing babies with me. I promise never to let any harm come near you all."
Thinking of ways to cheer her up, he spoke. "You want to hear about our Babies?"
She nodded against his chest, then adjusted a little so She could look into his eyes.
With a small smile on Colton's face, he wiped the tears off her cheeks with his thumb.
"Richard informed us that you've sustained a couple of injuries but you will be fine. Hailey asked about the baby, then he instructed me to follow him to the examination room where Almira was waiting for us."
"At that point, I already lost hope. Almira showed me the monitor which revealed the twins. I thought we lost them too but she said they were fine. The next minute, I saw myself on the floor, crying my eyes out."
For the first time since she woke up, a small smile crept to Mia's lips.
"Richard and Almira had to carry me to sit on the ultrasound bed" Colton chuckled upon the memory.
"Baby A has grown a little compared to the size on its last appointment. But Baby B looks small for an eleven weeks old baby but Almira assured that he or she will catch up in growth."
"I also listened to the already recorded heartbeat and to our surprise, Baby B's own was stronger than A. Almira said he or she is small but mighty. Of course, the heartbeats were a bit weak but that was because of the accident. But the more you get better, the more they will get better too."
"I'm so proud of them," Mia said in her proud mommy voice. "I'll get better for you all, I promise."
"Our family must be worried. I'm sorry I scared you all."
"It's fine," Colton whispered, intertwining his hands with hers. "Everyone is glad you and the babies are okay. They will be coming over today to see you."
Mia nodded, cuddling closer to Colt. She had her head on his chest. He gently wrapped an arm around her.
"Richard has placed you on six weeks bed rest once you're discharged. I'll be at home to take care of you throughout."
"What about work?" She looked into his eyes.
"Work is on hold for me. Caleb is in charge and will be in charge till I'm ready to go back."
"I'm so sorry."
Colton shook his head. "I'm taking time off for my family. You all are more important than work so you've got nothing to be sorry for. Caleb is just as competent as I am. He's very smart but the only challenge is his lazy ass."
"But he has promised to work hard and be responsible. He sure wants to leave a good impression on his twin nieces or nephews."
Mia smiled. "He's excited about them?"
"You have no idea, babe. He wants to be the best uncle in the world. And I'm afraid that whatever Caleb puts his mind to, he gets it."
Mia chuckled.
"The rest of our friends were glad to know about the twins too. They are the only ones aware for now."
Mia nodded. "We know a lot of amazing people in our lives. It's going to be hard choosing godparents." She whispered.
Colton smiled. "I've never even thought about that."
"I'd rather not think about it," Mia mumbled, making Colton chuckle.
"I got carried away with our conversation. I should call the Doctor to come to check on you."
"Not yet. Please cuddle me some more." She whispered, burying her face in his neck."
They made no further conversations. Mia enjoyed listening to Colton's heartbeat and falling asleep in his arms as he softly stroked her hair.
