Mia sighed, rose to her feet, then went after Colt
By the time She got to the kitchen, Colton was gulping down water from the bottle. She decided to wait for him to finish before she spoke.
"Can we talk? Please?" She whispered.
Colton didn't look at Mia to acknowledge her presence or neither did he reply. He tossed the now-empty bottle in the bin, then exited the kitchen.
Mia sighed, following him to the living room. She couldn't walk as fast as she could when she wasn't pregnant but she was trying her best.
"You know what? Maybe it's better for us to put an end to this relationship and go our separate ways because I don't fucking understand you anymore!" Mia voiced out, trying to hold back her tears.
Colton turned around and stared at her in disbelief. "Really? So you're blaming me now? Feel free to do whatever you want. You can walk out on me but that is only after our kids are born. I'll take custody of them."
"Like hell will I allow you to lay a finger on my children." She placed her hand on her tummy, ignoring the tears that were rolling down her cheeks.
"No way will I allow my children to be around you and that SLUT!!!!"
"Are you fucking kidding me right now, Mia. You still haven't learned your lesson??!!"
"Do I need to remind you that the children in your womb are also mine? Do not push me to my limit, Mia. You know what I can do."
"What you can do? You rich people are all the same. You all have evil blood running through your veins. You think you can have your way in all things because you have all the money in the world? I don't care if you're the richest man on earth. I would rather take my life than to let you have custody."
"You disgust me, Mia. I don't even recognize you anymore. You're definitely not the woman I fell in love with. What the hell has come over you?"
"You know very well that it's only you I love. Out of all the women in the world, I proposed to you because it's you who I want to spend the rest of my life with. You're the one carrying my heir and yet you're behaving bitchy about some girl I have no interest in."
"You have no interest in her yet you kissed her."
"For heaven's sake, Mia, that was just a misunderstanding. How many times do you want me to explain it to you? Debbie is married with kids. Why the hell will I want to be hitting on a married woman who is about to clock Forty?"
"You're the one making things hard for the both of us. I should be the one directing your first statement to you. You seem to be tired of me and this relationship. I know being pregnant makes you really sensitive to issues and even messes up your mood but I don't think I can endure this bullshit anymore!"
"I gave you all the space you needed. I moved into the guest room so you could have all the privacy you need. And hopefully, come back to your senses but nothing has changed."
"I can't even stand your presence anymore! You're definitely not the woman that made me rethink my life decision about falling in love, getting married, and having kids. Gosh!" He cursed, then excused himself, leaving Mia where she stood, in a pool of tears.
Once Colton was out of her sight, Mia plopped down on the nearest sofa and continued bawling. She had no idea how long she cried for but it seemed like forever.
Colton went straight to the guest room. He undressed, then took a shower. He somehow felt better after the cold bath. He realized all of the anger he was feeling had subsided.
Drying his body, he changed into his sweat pants and matching tee.
Feeling so hungry, he decided to go to the kitchen for something to eat.
Stepping out of the guest room, Colt was greeted with the sound of loud cries which made him exhale. There was no way he would get to the kitchen without going through the living room.
He decided to go back to his room. His hand was already on the door handle when his stomach rumbled. He exhaled, knowing he had no choice but to feed himself.
Colt tried not to pay any attention to Mia as he passed through and proceeded to the kitchen. Looking for the fastest thing to munch on, Colton reached for the leftover pizza from yesterday and warmed it up.
Once ready, he served himself, reached for a chilled bottle of red wine, and poured some in a glass cup.
Putting them on a tray, he exited the kitchen.
Colton noticed that Mia was still seated where he left her and was literally still bawling her eyes out to the point that he got scared.
He exhaled, placed his tray of food on a nearby table, then approached Mia with slow steps. She was cuddled up on the sofa. In front of the sofa was a strong low glass center table so Colton sat on it. He ran a hand over his face, then sighed.
"When did things get this bad between us, we were never like this?!" Colton's voice came out as a whisper.
"It's all my fault. I'm sorry." Mia sobbed, wiping her tears with the back of her palm. But that didn't stop fresh tears from rolling down her cheeks.
"I allowed my jealousy and mood swings to get the worst of me. I'm so sorry." She sniffled.
"Debbie might be older than you but I swear that you both looked good together in that picture. The way the picture was captured was as if you both were kissing. You guys looked so in love that I started to allow the comments from the pictures to get to me. My insecurities made it so hard for me to believe you when you mentioned nothing was going on between you all."
"Debbie may be older than us but she looks far younger than her age despite being married with kids. Me on the other hand, I look like a whale."
"I know she's a business partner and would be here for only a couple of days but I couldn't help but get jealous about her spending time with you in the office."
"She may be married with kids but I promise you that she's a gold digger and an ambitious bitch. From all she said to me the day I ran into her, it was obvious she wanted you. She said you guys kissed, she called me a pig and said nasty stuff to me. She promised to have her way with you."
Colton frowned. "Debbie Freeman?"
"That's why it was no use saying anything to you. I know you weren't going to believe me. Debbie said so too. You trust her so much that you wouldn't believe anyone over her." Mia sniffled.
"Why would I believe anyone over the woman I love? I respect Debbie because of the mutual relationship I have with her husband who is also one of our business partners. I'm surprised to hear such because I never took her for someone who was petty or would stoop so low to say trash."
"You should have told me she said nasty things to you. Who the hell gave her the right to call my fiancée a pig? Is she out of her fucking mind? How did she even recognize you? I was supposed to introduce the two of you to each other but I never did."
"I was able to recognize her from the pictures I saw of you both on the internet. I'm not sure how she recognized me."
"She must be silly if she thinks she can mess with you and get away with it!" Colton stormed out of Mia's sight and by the time he came back, he had his phone in his hand and was already dialing a number which was on speaker by the way.
"Hi, Colt....I'm glad you called. Is everything okay with you? I mean, you never call by this time. I'm not complaining though...." she chuckled.
Colton rolled his eyes. "Who gave you the audacity to be rude to my woman?" He said in a stern voice.
"Sorry?" Debbie's voice came through. She seemed shocked by Colton's outburst.
"Oh please, Debbie. I'm sure you heard me. I've done nothing but respect you ever since I've known you. Why do you have to be so nasty to my future wife? I never introduced you to her, how did you even recognize her?"
"You and I have nothing but a professional relationship. You have no right to stalk me and everything relating to my personal affairs and neither do you have the right to speak to my wife with disrespect!"
"She's pregnant with two babies and you dare call her a pig? How cruel can you be?. Not only is this an insult to her but also to me and my children."
"I...I bumped into a pregnant lady at the grocery store some days ago. I didn't know she was your woman!" Debbie stammered on the other end, trying to sound innocent.
"Does she have to be my woman before you respect her? Is that how you bully people?."
"You know what?" Colton spoke, running his fingers through his slightly wet hair. "The partnership is over! And please feel free to tell your husband that the deal is off and the reason I opted out. No one messes with my family and gets away with it!"
Colton ended the call, not giving Debbie the opportunity to say anything else.
