One hour later!
Both Colton and Mia stirred in their sleep when a knock came through on the door. The person on the other side opened the door and it turned out to be Richard and Almira, along with a nurse who rolled in the ultrasound machine.
"How's my favorite patient doing?" Richard smiled the moment he approached the bed.
"I hope you don't mind our position. She just needed some warmth."
"It's fine, Mr. Royal. You don't need to explain anything to us. As long as you're being careful of her injuries." Almira smiled.
Colton nodded. He placed a long kiss on Mia's lips, before helping himself down from the bed so they could check up on her.
"How are you feeling, Miss Mia?" Richard asked while Almira set up the ultrasound machine.
"Weak and Tired"
"Any pain?" He asked, scribbling down words on the chart he was holding.
"Not anymore but my whole body feels very sore."
Richard nodded, writing something down on the chart.
He asked a few more questions after which he did a general check-up on her, her injuries, and her sprained ankle.
When Richard was done, they had an ultrasound check-up to see how the twins were doing. Mia was happy to see two humans on the monitor instead of one. And she couldn't help but tear up, listening to their heartbeats. Of course, Colton was by her side, witnessing the precious moments with her.
"If I'm not mistaken, I think the heartbeats are stronger than what we heard yesterday!' Colton smiled.
"I was about to say the same too. I'm glad you're really involved in this, buddy." Richard said to Colt.
"Yes, there has been an improvement. The more Mia gets better, the more the babies will get healthier." Almira responded.
Mia smiled proudly, her eyes not leaving the monitor. Colton gave her hand a light squeeze.
They all talked some more with regards to Mia's health after which they took their leave, then their first visitor came in.
It was Hailey. She handed the basket of food and bag of clean clothes to Colton, then went over to her best friend.
Mia was already in a seated position so it was easy for Hailey to embrace her in a hug. She did so gently. The two best friends stayed like that for a while.
"Thank you for being stronger than we all thought you were. Life without you is meaningless." Hailey said.
"I'm sorry I made you all worried."
"Don't be, babes. I'm glad you and your cuties are alright." She looked down at Mia's belly with a smile on her face. "I found myself grinning throughout the night. I can't believe my baby is going to be a mother to twins."
Mia smiled. "I'm still processing the news.
Crazy right?" She intertwined her free hand with Hailey's own.
"Well, crazy in a good way. You and Colt are going to have your hands full. But one thing is for sure, they are going to be the most beautiful set of twin babies this world has ever had."
Mia smiled. "I would love that. Hopefully, Colton's genes would make that happen."
"Definitely! It's only right for the sexiest man alive to birth the sexiest babies."
"I have the most beautiful woman in the world by my side. So yeah, our kids are going to be the prettiest and sexiest." Colton approached both women. He placed a kiss on Mia's lips, then sat on the bed beside her. She snuggled closer to him in a seated position.
"I agree!" Hailey smiled.
"I'm so happy Mia has you, Colt. Thank you for loving my friend beyond words."
Colton stared at Mia adoringly. "I never thought it was possible to love someone this much until I met your best friend. I'm proud to call her the love of my life and the mother of my children."
Mia blushed.
Hailey smiled at the duo. She was genuinely happy for her friend.
"By the way, do you all have twins in your family? There's none in Mia's family." Hailey said.
"Yes we do but never did it occur to me that my woman was going to birth twins. My Grandmother was a twin. After her death, her twin sister took over her role and became our grandmother. I know she would be very happy in heaven."
"I can't wait to tell her twin sister and my grandfather about the twin babies."
"And my parents too. Most especially mom."
"Do your parents know about the accident?" Mia asked Colt.
"No. But my mom already sensed that something was wrong. Caleb and I have been ignoring her calls since yesterday. I'll give her a call shortly."
"Mia, you should call Tessie too. She called me last night. She wanted to know if you got home safely but she couldn't get through to you and Colt. I had to tell her I spoke to you some seconds ago and that you were fine." Hailey said.
"Thanks, babe, I'll give her a call."
"There's also clean clothes for you in the bag. Caleb got them for you" She said to Colt
Mia and Colton exchanged a suspicious look.
"Caleb? How did you guys link up?" Colton couldn't help but ask. He meant no harm though.
"My car is faulty. One of the reasons I arrived late at the hospital yesterday. Caleb offered to drop me off. He came by this morning too. He drove me here but couldn't come up to greet you guys because he was running late for a meeting at the office. He said he will come by in the evening."
Colton sighed. "Hailey, you're very special to Mia and that makes you special to me. I wouldn't want to see you get hurt much less by my younger brother."
"How are things between you and Enoch? You promised you were going to hear him out?" Mia asked.
Hailey nodded, looking down at her hands. "We spoke but I made him understand I needed space. The truth is, I don't even know if I want to get back with him, I don't know if I still have feelings for him. I don't know if I'm feeling this way because I'm still hurt by everything but time will tell."
"Have you and Caleb spoken to each other before yesterday?" Mia asked.
"We spoke for the first time at your engagement party. We exchanged numbers but we never reached out to each other."
Mia sighed. "Do you by any chance like Caleb or do you think he's trying to get close to you for a relationship?"
"I know I may sound really noisy but I'm only looking out for you, Hail.".
"I only see him as a friend and that's the same vibe I get from him. I don't think he has bad intentions."
"Your place is far from Caleb's place. It's a reasonable thing for him to drop you off last night after all that happened but if he's not into you, I see no reason why he would stop by at your place this morning. This hospital is closer to Caleb's place. He could have just come here directly and dropped the clothes before heading to the office for the meeting." Colton said.
"I don't intend to make you feel bad, Hailey. I'm just looking out for you, knowing my brother has always been a playboy. The last thing I would want is for Caleb to hurt you. I have no idea what his intentions are but I'm going to make it known that he has to fucking stay away from you if his intentions are not pure!" Colton said.
"I appreciate your concern, Colt, but I would like for you not to say anything to him. We are just friends and nothing more. I know I'm going through a delicate phase in my life and I'm probably very vulnerable but I assure you that I'll be fine. I'm well experienced to know if a person's intention is pure or not. Besides, I'm older than Caleb so I doubt we would ever be a thing." She said with a heavy heart.
