Tabitha's POV
I frowned, "But this is so unfair to you."
"Fair? You're such a naïve child. Some people are struggling to make ends meet, doing the dirtiest and most exhausting jobs at the bottom rung. As she looks up at the towering skyscraper above her, she realizes that the child who was born into privilege and luxury is the heir to that building. In this world, there is no such thing as absolute fairness."
I fell silent, and Andrea spoke earnestly, "Tabitha, you are still young, and many things are not as simple as they seem. Can you guess why I didn't confront that woman even though I knew the truth?"
"Was it because you are scared of Ambrose?"
"Scared of him? It's only when I am genuinely in love that I give a damn about his feelings and thoughts. Once the love is gone, he might as well be the weeds by the side of the road. I don't mention it because I know all too well about Phoebe's ambitions." Andrea's expression was devoid of any romantic sentiment, radiating nothing but indifference.
"Did she want the real position of Mrs. Greenwood?"
"You're smart. Back then, Ambrose went crazy for her, which greatly angered Alpha Elliott.
"He insisted on driving me out of the Black Thorn Pack and bringing Phoebe back. Phoebe, thinking her status as a mother would secure her position, believed that Alpha Elliott wouldn't really sever ties. But Alpha Elliott meant business. He not only cut off all Ambrose's financial support and social connections but also announced in the industry that Derek was his sole heir."
I was thinking about that kind old man, and I didn't expect him to have such guts.
"What happened afterward?"
"Ambrose couldn't make it here, so he had to leave with Phoebe to start a business. It's kind of funny, really, because the first money he used to start his venture was from me. I took 51% of his company's shares at the time, thinking I could keep him in check. But in the end, I couldn't bring myself to hurt him at all, and that turned out to be the sharp knife he used against me."
I felt so sorry for her. Andrea was just too naïve, giving in to the man she loved without any limits.
It was clear that humble love could not win a man's heart back.
"He was, after all, the heir groomed by the Black Thorn Pack, and he's made quite a name for himself since venturing out on his own. Lately, he's been trying to prove his worth and has been making a deliberate effort to reconnect with Alpha Elliott. I know him too well. It must be Phoebe's idea for him to mend fences."
"It appears that Phoebe isn't content with the status quo and is still coveting the assets of the Black Thorn Pack?"
"Yes, Ambrose has made quite a bit of money, but compared to the vast fortune of the Black Thorn Pack, it's just a drop in the ocean, not to mention the wealth accumulated by the ancestors. How could that woman be willing to give up? Over the past few years, she has brought her kid here several times, but each time they've been turned away before they could even see Alpha Elliott."
Andrea toyed with a spoon. "I didn't step in because I was waiting for a dog-eat-dog finale. Just imagine, if he discovered that his beloved wife has always been a heartless schemer, what kind of look would cross his face?"
I felt a sense of revenge even before I saw it.
"For the past two years, I've had someone keeping a close eye on her. This woman is incredibly cunning, and there are still many things for which I haven't managed to gather concrete evidence. But when the day comes that I have uncovered everything, we'll be waiting with bated breath for her downfall, which I assure you, will be quite a spectacle."
Andrea reminded me again, "But you must be careful. I have said that she is not to be underestimated. She might come after you."
"Andrea, I got it." I nodded in agreement, took a few sips of iced coffee, and furrowed my brow in discomfort. "Hiss."
