Alpha Lorn is helping his mother plant lilies of every shade known. They were his sister’s favorite flower. Since they built the special spot for his mom to sit and visit with her only daughter, she has seemed to improve some. His sister’s final resting place is next to the duck pond. She loved the ducks and her favorite thing to do was chase them when they were growing up. They had brought her body home and buried her. From there, mom and dad commission a sculptor from the human city to make a canopied bed from stone. On the bed was a likeness of his sister in sleep. Lorn believed it gave his mom comfort to think his sister was sleeping forever, like that Disney movie, instead of dead.
“She would love this, Lorn.” His mom's lips quivered as she made the comment. Instances like this reminded him that his mother understood her daughter was gone forever. With watery eyes and a hoarseness to her voice she continued, “Thank you for killing that disgusting man. I hope he is rotting in some kind of hell. I am sorry that you did not realize your mate until too late. But I think it is for the better. You were meant for someone else. I know it.”
“I don’t know mother; I wonder if the moon goddess will ever forgive me for the rejection of that poor girl. Especially now that I have heard what happened to her recently. “Lorn fretted.
Lorn’s mom gave her son a watery smile and assured him, “If Lorna was here, she would tell you to stop beating yourself up and go offer your assistance to help the poor girl. Seriously, honey, you are a good man and even good men make mistakes. The moon goddess understands that.”
Lorn smiled back at his mom, wishing he could tell her everything, but he did not want to endanger any of his newfound friends. Maybe someday he could tell his family the things he knew and those he has met. He really hoped that the story relayed about Alpha Nathan and his behavior towards his mate was exaggerated. The feeling in his stomach was telling him it was not. Why else would Katia put herself in such danger and welcome the end of her life? Although he was told that she had died the god’s death, he could not bring himself to mourn her. He just did not feel as if she was truly gone.
Lorn heard his father calling his name before he came into his sight. Waving, he walked towards his dad, wondering what now? His father and they stopped in front of one another. His father says, “Where is your phone?”
“I left it in the den. I didn’t want to worry about interruptions while I was helping mom. This is important to her, and she seems to be doing better,” he said calmly.
His dad looks lovingly at his mother and Lorn wants more than anything to have that with someone. Patting him on the back, his dad offered, “How about I take over helping your mom, and you go answer that damn phone call waiting in your office for you?”
Lorn chuckled, “You were just jealous because I was monopolizing all mom’s time.”
“Damn straight I was.” His dad grins and then whispers, “Maybe I can convince your mom to go skinny-dipping with me in the pond.”
To which Lorn hears his mom say, “Fat chance. Dream on Alpha Cade. Poor ducks would go blind.”
Lorn watches his dad lean down and kiss the top of his mom’s head as he says, “Never my precious mate. The ducks would be dazzled by your beauty as I am every day.”
Lorn headed back to the packhouse to give his parents some time alone. He hoped that his mom would continue working through her mourning with them and not by herself as before. His parents needed one another. His wolf Cully sounded in, “We will have that one day. I know it. I can feel it.”
Lorn said, “I hope so.”
Picking the phone up, he said hello. Not surprised by who was on the other end. After the angel had shown up on his land, Lorn could not shake the feeling that something else was coming and all of it was leading to something big. What he didn’t know, and it scared him a little. Sitting down in his chair, he listened to Alpha Mark fill him in on everything. He did wonder why it was Mark and not Nathan, but not for long, because he heard something that snapped him back to what Mark was saying.
“Did you say white wolves?” He asked in amazement. When Mark affirmed that he said white wolves, Lorn gasped, “No effing way. They were supposed to be extinct. You said Katia sent them? So, you’ve been in contact with Katia?”
He could hear Mark getting perturbed on the other end, so he quieted down and listened some more. Once Mark was through telling him everything that had happened, he sat there stunned, not knowing what to say first. He went with what his mind could process easier, “Well first, congratulations to you and Kane on finding your mates. Who did you say they were?”
Mark sputtered back, “Did you hear a thing I said to you? I told you that the white wolves were our mates.”
“Well goddess, Mark, you said so much. What did you expect? The white wolves appearing really is an amazing thing. But then again, it could be a bad omen also. History shows that white wolves usually came forward when a disaster of some sort was about to happen.” Lorn instructed his caller.
“Yeah, well, here is the deal, there is more. We are waiting for the four witches Katia has sent to us also. Once they arrive, it seems shit is going to hit the fan, and we need to be ready.” Mark informed him.
“What do you need from me?” Lorn inquired.
“We are going to need some help with the fighting, I think. But Nathan thinks you should stay there to defend your pack and lands. Especially since that angel has been visiting there. Do you have any other allies you can call in for support?” Mark wanted to know.
Confirming that he did, he told Mark he would make the calls this afternoon and then let them know who was coming that way and who would head this way. Before hanging up, he said, “Mark, let me know when and if you need us to head your way. We can be there in half a day's run.”
“Will do, this stuff is unreal. I never thought little ghost was going to bring so much to us.” Mark marveled.
They hung up and Lorn started making phone calls like he promised. He was going to have to fill his mother and father in. Whatever happens, he hopes beyond hope that Moon Touched’s Alpha Luna finds happiness, since she is apparently being kept hidden and not dead.
Lorn thought to himself of how he would be more than willing to give her a safe and happy place to live. No strings.
Looking out the window, he saw that angel Crael watching him .
