Talon and Amara were settling into their new pack and home happily. Once they were released from the hospital, they found themselves marked and their mate bonds sealed that same night. Their men had waited long enough. They gathered. The Moon Touched pack and Snow Moon pack were so intertwined that they could not figure out why they did not just become one pack. Neither pack did anything without the other. Even the Alphas conferred and were seen together daily. The pack members enjoyed working together and the gathering they had for dinner. Both packs ate most meals together outside. The weather did not matter. If it rains or snows, a tent is erected. The Alphas were working on plans to build a dining area big enough for everyone and the ongoing bonfire.
Amara stared in wonderment at some of the other species taken in by the Moon Touched pack. There was a mother dragon and her babe, faerie folk young and old, demon shifters that were not accepted where they came from, any kind of animal shifter you could think of, and just the other night they accepted a vampire into their pack. Talon heard Mark exclaim to Nathan, “Little ghost is going to go nuts when she finds out about the vampire member we have now.”
Shaking his head, Nathan chuckled, “She is going to drive the poor man crazy with her questions.” Getting serious, he told Mark, “You know she is going to be proud of what you have done. She never went into depth about what she wanted this pack to be when she spoke of it. She just made the decisions and I let her. I guess she thought I wasn’t interested or maybe felt threatened somehow.”
“Alpha. So many never saw past the hurt little girl. Maybe because of her size or the way she acted. If watched closely you would have seen a lot because it was an act. She learned people do not pay that much attention if they think you can’t cause trouble,” Mark divulged to him. He went further with his explanation, “Kelp, Cora, Doc, and I spent a lot of time with her. We spent many days and nights in a dungeon. We learned how her mind and wolf worked to protect her. We did our best to continue that protection when her wolf needed to rest. She trusts us with everything. She knows we will never betray her, and we will carry out her every wish for her pack.”
“If you knew she was up to something, would you tell me?” Nathan wanted to know.
Raising an eyebrow, Mark said, “If I did know, and I do not know if she is up to something, no, I would not tell you. I will never betray her, even to her mate.”
Nathan growled as Kane walked in and growled back at him, “Stand down Alpha. Your temper is what got us into this mess to begin with. These men and women earned my cousin’s trust in the worst way possible. You have no right to be angry. Maybe you should try to see past your anger and possessive nature to what your mate truly is.”
Mark smirked at the other Alpha, “That will be the day. He will never understand the gifts he has been given. Kane, I have a feeling you have some news?”
Kane huffed, “Our mates owe us an explanation. Four witches were just seen crossing into rogue territory heading for our land. I put warriors on the perimeter to watch their journey and, if they are attacked, to interfere.”
Nathan drops to his knees, clutching his chest, “Goddess what is this? The pain is like nothing I have ever felt.”
Mark mind linked Doc and told him to get to his office quickly. Something was wrong with Alpha Nathan. Meanwhile, he and Kane helped Nathan to the couch. While they were doing that, Doc and Selene came rushing in. Selene had been helping Doc check on the vampire when the call came through about Nathan.
Nathan was lying on the couch in a cold clammy sweat. He kept grabbing and rubbing his chest where his heart was. Selene glanced at Kane who was standing there rubbing his chin. He glanced back at Selene and smirked slightly. Kane was letting her know that he had figured out exactly what was going on. Nathan’s rolling back and forth along with the grunts of pain pulled their attention back to him.
Another minute later and everything stopped. It was like nothing ever happened. Nathan sat up questioning, “What the hell was that?”
Doc could only guess, “If I didn’t know better, I would have sworn you were feeling the mate's betrayal pains.”
Nathan jumped up and swore, “I will fucking kill whoever is touching her. It must be one of the three visiting her all the time. I doubt Uranus or Cronos would touch her like that. Now Lucifer is a different story.”
Selene walked and stood in front of Nathan with her hands on her hips and snarled at him, “You will do no such thing to anyone who may touch her in any way. She is giving you a little payback, and you should count yourself lucky because that is all she did. My sister could end you with a snap of her fingers. You would do to remember that. Since it only lasted briefly, she did nothing but allow someone to kiss her.”
Nathan’s face was bright red, and his wolf Kalen was on the surface. Pointing at Selene, he insisted, “I will kill whoever touched my mate,”
“I will enjoy watching my sister bring you to your knees over and over again making you beg.” Selene vowed, shoving Nathan back. He stumbled back from the unexpected force of her shove. “You make me sick; you have learned nothing from your first mistake. I cannot believe I thought you would be the perfect mate for Titi.”
Looking around the room she stated to the rest, “Katia has found a way to lower the block. It is for only three minutes at a time. She has been sending others to us that we will need for the war that is coming. She has not been able to tell me much more than that.”
Nathan bellowed at her, “You have been in contact with my mate and did not bother to let me know.”
Kane stepped forward, putting a hand on Nathan’s shoulder, “You need to calm down and remember who you are speaking to.”
Selene sneered back, “I do not have to report anything to you. You forget who you are, Wolf. Or do you think being a demigod gives you certain privileges?”
Nathan just snorted at her. Looking at Kane, he spoke calmly, “Let me know when you figure out how to handle your cousin.”
Selene had enough of Nathan’s attitude and threw an energy ball at him. It knocked Nathan into the door he was standing in front of, and he fell to the floor unconscious. “Leave him there. He can figure out what happened when he comes to.”
Stepping over Nathan, she told them, “I do not want to see his face until he is ready to apologize.”
Spinning back around she finished, “When the witches arrive, we begin the plans to bring Titi home.” Selene walked off fisting her hands at her side.
