Racing to the gates of Moon Touched, Mark had a million things running through his mind. He could hear the others following him, and he knew they were all wondering the same thing. Were Katia and Selene aware the white wolf still lived and are they the reason these two are here? Where have they been all this time? Why were they hiding? Coming to a halt at the gates, he saw the two wolves lying on the ground. The bigger of the two was growling at anyone trying to help them.
As they all shifted and covered themselves, so they would not cause any more upset about the situation with the two females, Nathan wondered aloud, “What happened to them and where did they come from suddenly?”
Dalia went with Nathan, Chip, Doc, and Kane to look over the smaller of the two. While Coral stayed with Mark, Kelp, and Eric to see what they could do for the bigger one. The two wolves were big for female wolves and seemed to be attached to one another. They both lay next to each other, the bigger one’s head lying on the smaller one’s backside. Their white fur was mated with dirt, sticks, blood, and soaked. They were both panting hard and had injuries on their bodies.
Doc commented, “These pretty little ladies look like they have been through it. I would say they have been in several fights and from the smell these two girls went rogue to travel here.”
Mark wondered, “But why?”
Nathan interjected, “Anyone seeing the color of their fur would attempt to capture them. In times of old, it was said anyone in possession of a white wolf was in possession of great power.”
Kane was drawn to the wolf in front of him. She smelled wonderful. She smelled like the beach. Salt air and coconut oil. His wolf was dancing around in his head, which was unusual. His wolf rarely spoke and hardly ever made himself known. Settle down Casp. Suddenly, Kane let out a growl when doc moved the wolf’s right front leg and she yelped.
Smacking Doc’s hand away, he bellowed, “MINE.”
Dalia was the only one still touching the wolf, “Kane, Doc is only trying to help her. Give him some room to look at that leg so we can get her to hospital.” Calmly putting her hand on Kane’s shoulder to help his wolf understand. Kane’s wolf quieted and he was able to take control back. His wolf was not one that was controlled easily when he did awaken. He would have to ask Katia why she settled him with this particular wolf if he ever saw her again.
Coral stated, “This little lady has several broken ribs, her left back paw looks to be injured but without x-rays I am not sure what the injury is. She has cuts, scraps, bruising under her fur, and a gash down her stomach that is going to need stitches. Her wolf is not healing her, and I am willing to bet they have come in contact with some kind of silver.”
Doc agreed. The smaller wolf was in the same condition, and they needed to get to the hospital quickly. Kane scooped up his mate and Mark took the other. They were gone before the others knew what was happening. Shifting, Doc and Coral said meet you all at the Moon Touched hospital and were gone also.
Chipper was amazed by what he had just seen. His grandmother used to tell him stories of the white wolves and how special they were. He never thought he would see one, let alone two white wolves. He couldn’t wait to tell his mom, but he would have to. He did not want to put them in any more danger than they already may be in.
Arriving at the hospital, they shifted once more and noticed that the rest of their group a.k.a. the gods were there also. Selene came running to them exclaiming, “Is it true? Are they white wolves?”
Nathan nodded his head as he answered, “They are, but we do not know anything further. They were in bad shape and were all but unconscious when we arrived. The bigger one was warning the others off until she saw Mark. I am not sure of how she knows who he is or what he looks like, but she settled down as soon as she saw him.”
Kane was pacing and Selene went to him. “What is wrong, cousin?” She then noticed Kane's Wolf was in control and barely leashing his anger for some reason.
Dalia spoke up, “The smaller wolf is his mate.”
“Oh dear. He needs to be in there with her now.” Selene looked to her parents and added, “His wolf is volatile and knowing his mate is in there injured, Kane may not be able to pull him back. He needs to be surrounded by her calming scent if nothing else.”
“How do we keep him from harming Doc?” Mark queried.
Hyperion came forward, “I will go with him. If the need arises, I will restrain his wolf.” Grabbing Kane by the arm, Hyperion led him into the medical room his mate was in. Things seemed to be touch and go for a while. There was a lot of snarling, growling, and profanity. The profanity was coming from Hyperion. Doc had put both girls in the same room, figuring it would help keep them calm. Coral and he worked through the rest of the night on them. Finally, in the early morning hours, they exited the room. Motioning them to a cafeteria where they could all sit and talk.
One of the cafeteria workers came over with a pot of coffee, cups, and condiments. Once they were settled Doc began, “Those two ladies have been through a lot. It does not look as if they were mistreated, but they have been in quite a few fights. They are almost completely rogue, and it will take time for them to adjust to pack life again. I am giving them something to keep them unconscious and in wolf form.”
“Why keep them in wolf form?” Chipper asked curiously.
Coral was the one that took up the explanation, “It looks as if most of their injuries have happened while in wolf form. It will be easier for their wolves to heal them in that way. Shifting them back may cause permanent damage to their human form.”
“Not to mention, we do not know how much damage has been done from the silver we are flushing from their bodies. They are two very strong wolves to even shift, let alone function with as much silver as is in their bodies.” Doc informed them.
“Was someone poisoning them?” Nathan wanted to know.
“We will have to ask them when they wake up,” Doc answered, and then added, “I am starting to wonder about this world. These two girls are precious and something terrible has been happening to them. What is going on? Why are so many mistreated or abandoned wolves showing up suddenly?”
Selene once again sat listening and taking all the information in. She wondered if her sister knew these two wolves existed. Of course, she did. So, the real question is where have they been, and why are they here now? Did they have some way of communicating with Katia, and had she sent them here? Everyone wants to know what Uranus is up to, but Selene wonders what her sister is truly up to?
Others are not thinking and pulling all the chaos together. They dwell on each incident as it happens. Since Katia came back this time to try and stop Uranus’ revenge against them, everything has been different. Nothing has been the same as all the other times. Selene thought it was because their plan was better this time. Then Lucifer threw a wrench into things for a while. There are so many others involved this time around. The titans and gods, of course. Now the angels are involved somehow. Then there is the latest, the mystical beings, which are what the white wolves are referred to as.
Dalia walks over and sits next to Selene, “I can’t help feeling like someone is moving us around on a chess board and controlling how the game is played.”
Selene widens her eyes in amazement at how smart Dalia is. She hides it well. She acts like an over-rambunctious ditz most of the time. However, Selene had noticed that Nathan values her opinion. Finally, she smiled at Dalia and said, “I have that same feeling. But who is controlling everything and why?”
Dalis shrugged and timidly said to her sister-in-law, “I am also starting to think…”
“That Katia is exactly where she wants to be for now.” Selene finished for her.
