Lorna stood with singed wings and stared at the destruction of the packhouse in front of her. The acting Alphas barely had enough time to get the young, old, and disabled, out and to safety. Once the building caught fire, it burned quickly. Thankfully the two men had thought it best to not put those individuals in safe rooms and kept them together on the first floor of the packhouse. It made it easy to move everyone quickly and they lost no one to the fire. As for those still fighting, so many lay on the ground injured and dead. At least they looked dead, Lorna had never had to fight in a war and did not know what death looked like.
She saw Chip running toward her carrying what looked like a wet sheet, as he got close enough he threw the sheet around her. "Your wings!" He sputtered at her. She looked at what she could see of them and noticed the smoke curling in the air from the bottom area of her wings and the small burn on her leg. She smiled and nodded her thanks as she took off into the sky, once more, to hold back the enemy in front of them. However, they seemed to be in the back of them and around them now. Lorna worried that the wolves and angels fighting together were not going to last much longer against the demon creatures and the fallen angels.
Lorna linked mentally to Crael and asked, "Have you heard anything from Lucifer or Mr. Zeus?"
He immediately answered back, "Lucifer just broke off contact to update whoever is running the show in the other realm. I told him we could not hold them back much longer."
Lorna's eyes twinkled with tears as she watched another of the fallen angels succumb to death at the hands of her own kind. "We are both your kind now my soul," Crael whispered in her head.
"That is what makes this all the harder. I am a part of both species and can barely help either of them." She relayed with sorrow to her other half.
Crael needed to tell her what her brother had just informed him, "My soul listen closely, the witches have fallen completely. Their energy is depleted and the magic they are casting now is weak. Lorn has ordered all his warrior and the rest to retreat to the mountain behind their pack lands. They have caves there to hide in."
"I will let Chip and Bob know. Let me know when you are safe enough." She sent him a hug and went off the find the two acting Alphas. Seeing that the gate was ready to give and fires were burning everywhere inside of the gates, she knew the two men were gathering everyone to move also.
Lorna hovered slightly over everyone and as high as the tunnel ceilings aloud, looking for any stragglers that could not keep up with the group of werewolves moving as quietly as they could through the passageways to the waterfall. She thought as she followed along with the other angels protecting them, what smart little wolves these two groups have become. During the construction happening on Moon Touched land they had put crews to work digging tunnels from the packlands to the waterfall caves. They would not have to enter through the pool and worry about those who could not swim. They came to an opening that emptied into the back of one of the caves of the waterfall. The group entered through it and walked along a small corridor that opened into a huge area that surrounded a pool of fresh water. The pool seemed to be fed from the main pool at the bottom of the fall. Lorna could see the water flowing and ebbing which explained how the water did not stagnate.
She sent a quick message to Crael, letting him know that they were safe for now. Then Lorna got to work settling the children, elderly, and disabled pack members. The witches had given up casting protective magic toward the gate and lands. They now focused on healing magic for those who were injured or sick. Their magic was still very weak and the Alpha's auras were not as strong because they were only acting Alphas and holding part of their Alpha's powers. Lorna went to work making a tea from lemon, sage, and ginger, to help restore the witch's energy.
A loud explosion sounded outside of the cave and the interior shook. Dirt fell from the cave ceiling to the floor and someone cried out, "They have found us. They are going to kill us all while we hide in here."
Bob strolled over to the young woman and raised her chin so she looked him in the eyes, "No one has found us little one, it was simply another of the brimstone bombs exploding like they have all day around us. It sounds more ominous because we are inside of a waterfall. We are safe here as long as we keep quiet and do not wander outside." Bob spoke calmly and softly to the young woman. His voice was so enticing that Lorna had to shake her head when he finished speaking. She felt lightheaded and completely calm.
Crael interrupted her thoughts of Bob and what type of species he may be, "Are you alright? I felt dizzy a few minutes ago and knew it was not me.
"I am fine, we have made it to the waterfall caves and are hiding out. What about you? Is everyone safe? Mama. Papa, Lorn, and, my younger brothers? The rest of my pack?" Lorna asked hurriedly as she poured tea into cups for the witches. Some of the other women were helping make tea and some food for everyone. She smiled her thanks to the women, for their help, and felt a small hand pet her wings. Looking down she saw a little boy rubbing a burnt area of her wing. The wing started healing and the boy smiled. As Crael let her know that they all were safe there she flexed her wing and wrapped around the little boy, hugging him. The elder witch called the little boy to her and he ran off.
Lorna took a seat next to Chip and Bob. They sat eating a plate of the food the ladies were able to cook quickly. They did not really taste but were grateful to get something in their bellies. Once everyone had eaten, some of the warriors took everyone outside in groups to quietly take care of their bodily functions, they settled down for the night. Lorna could not believe it had been two days now since the fighting had started. She wondered how much longer it would go on and how the packs around the world were faring.
Offering a thank you to Mr.Zeus for their surviving the day she sat quietly listening for danger. She understood now why Crael and Lucifer sent her to oversee and protect these two packs. If she had stayed with her old pack she would not have been as effective in their protection. She would have been too caught up in her family's survival. This angel was not that hard especially since Mr. Zeus had left her to keep some of her traits and personality. She could not shift to her wolf anymore but her wolf seemed to be content with their life right now. Lorna wondered if she would be able to shift again someday from angel to wolf.
During the early dawn, Lorna heard movement coming hurriedly down the corridor from the waterfall. It was two of the warriors sent to do watch duty. They whispered quickly to the two men in charge, "We need to keep everyone quiet, there is an enemy patrol on the opposite bank of the waterfall. The demon creatures are standing there sniffing the air."
Chip opened the pack link telling everyone what was happening and to help keep the little ones quiet. The waterfall would hide their scents and hopefully, any noise that was made. They all sat barely breathing and waiting for word as to if they were found out or the patrol moved on. Then they heard the splash. Then another and another. Four more as the patrol of demons decided to go for a swim. Everyone froze at the sound of the first splash and continued to stay that way for what seemed like forever.
Finally, another warrior came running and gave the all-clear signal. The warriors went back to their watch positions and everyone else decided to get the day started.
A scream was heard from the back of the tunnel that led to the corridor. Looking toward the opening there stood a demon holding the small boy that healed Lorna's wing.
