Kane knows that something is not right with his cousin’s death. They are missing something and, whatever it is, it would prove that Katia is still alive somewhere. Nathan deserves a lot of things, but not the punishment that Hyperion wants to give him. Nathan is punishing himself and the packs are punishing him even more. The wolves in each pack can barely hide their contempt for the Alpha of Snow Moon. The Snow Moon wolves have always lived by the werewolf code set down by the moon goddesses themselves. On top of that, the Snow Moon wolves always pride themselves on the compassion they have for others of all kinds. They had similar beliefs to what Snow Moon is building now for their pack and those who want to join them. In the time Katia has been gone, Mark and Kelp have accomplished so much with the new pack. In another month they will meet before the council hoping to gain the charters for the new pack. They have taken in about fifty new wolves seeking help and understanding. Some simply have no one and nowhere to go. Others, many women and children, but some men seek refuge from abuse of some sort.
Kane is sitting on the porch of the cabin that Nathan agreed to let Katia build for her and her friends. It was quiet here and he could think. He didn’t have the courage to go inside and look around. He didn’t want to see if Nathan kept his promise to make it bigger and add everything he could think of to make it better for the women. More comfortable for the males that would end up here all the time if they wanted to see their woman. Leaning back in the chair he was sitting in, he kept going over each thing Cronos and Lucifer said when they announced that Uranus had taken Katia’s life. He knew it was in something they said. But he was missing whatever it was. But what?
Groaning and exhaling a sigh, he started from the beginning again. When Cronos and Lucifer appeared in front of them, just as he thought he was going crazy trying to figure it out, a voice said, “Nephew, what perplexes you so?”
Kane’s eyes popped open and there stood one of his problems. Cronos was grinning and standing in front of him. “Exactly how did you know where to find me, Uncle?” Kane said, standing.
“Easy really. For a big wolf or God, you like your quiet places connected to others like you. This is Katia’s building. It is surrounded by her, and obviously you are trying to work out something concerning your cousin. It would stand to reason that this is where you would feel most connected to her and her god family.
Kane looked around and realized Cronos was correct. Although he had not gone inside the entire cabin and the area was full of Katia’s scent. For some reason her scent had not dissipated from this area. He had not told a single person this. He didn’t want the others there trying to be close to her. This was his spot for now.
Looking Cronos in the eye and puffing himself out slightly, he asked his uncle, “Well, what are you looking for me for? Is there some information you forgot in the telling of Katia’s demise?”
“Whatever do you mean Nephew?” Cronos had the audacity to look confused, but his voice said something completely different. Kane knew in his gut that Cronos had information.
“Cronos, I am just going to ask you straight out, and I really hope you tell me the truth.” Kane replied.
“Ask away and I will decide if I want to answer or not.” Was the smart ass answer he received.
“Do you know anything more about Katia? Something is not right with all of this. Why did her gammas not feel anything? No one can feel a thing. I know the bond can be blocked, but the final death would break any bond she had with anyone completely, and it would be almost as painful as the mate bond breaking. Not this sensation of being there one moment and just gone the next.” Kane explained why he was asking for more information.
Looking away, Cronos told him, “I told you before her life ended Katia asked Uranus to keep everyone she loved and held dear from feeling that pain. So, he did as her last wish.”
Kane was instantly furious; he knew there was something his uncle was not telling him. He stepped closer to Cronos, who was just a smidge taller than him. Other than that, they were built the same. Cronos was much older. However, he looked like he was in his early thirties. Blonde hair blowing in the wind and his cold dark eyes swirling with amusement. Grinning at his nephew standing toe to toe with him, he snarled, “You have something more to say boy?” He poked Kane in the chest and continued, “If so, then say it or maybe stop and think about what I just told you for the second time.”
Kane stood there for a few moments going over the words Cronos had sputtered once again about Katia’s death. Cronos continued staring at him like he was trying to will something into him. He was not trying to link him, so what was he trying to get him to see?
“Damn it boy, use your god's mind and think of what I told you.” Cronos said impatiently.
Suddenly, Kane flew at Cronos, grabbing him around the neck. “Where is she? Don’t lie to me and tell me you don’t know. Obviously, you do. Why else would you keep coming around these two packs like you were waiting for something?”
“Once again, boy, whatever do you mean? I have no idea what you are talking about.” Cronos said sarcastically.
“Do not test me, Uncle. You may be strong as a Titan, but do you want to really go up against a god and see how strong you still are?” With that said, Kane threw a burst of energy towards Cronos, knocking him back onto the porch rail. He stomped forward and grabbed him by the neck once more.
Cronos felt like he had just been hit by a bolt of lightning and pummeled with rocks. He had to smile at the strength of his nephew’s power. He also wonders what other powers he had that he kept hidden. These young gods did not exploit their powers. Half the time they acted as if they had none. As he stood pondering what to say next, he could feel his nephew’s hold get tighter around his neck the angrier he got. Ah, so his powers build as his emotions build. Good to know.
“Kane, I need you to let go of my neck and then tell me what you have finally figured out.” He grated out.
‘I know that Uranus does not have the kind of power it would take to keep every single wolf in two packs from feeling the pain of their Luna’s death. Especially Moon Touch as she is their Alpha Luna. The one above all others, including their Alpha.” Kane replied as he slowly unwrapped his fingers from around Cronos' throat. Turning in, he walked back to his chair and sat down. Motioning on Cronos to sit in the other. As Cronos sat in the little delicate pink wooden rocking chair next to Kane’s purple one, Kane started up again, “The way I figure it, for whatever reason, Uranus didn’t want to kill Katia and used his blocking powers on everyone. He is stronger and can do it indefinitely without thought. He probably figured that once we could not feel her and the bond didn’t return, we would believe she was dead. He does not understand the bond and how it works.”
Cronos smiled and thought he was a smart boy. “Okay, let’s say that’s true. What next?”
Kane glared at his uncle, “You tell me where she is, and we go get her will take her home to Moon Touch and let her decide what she wants to do from there.”
“No can do. Uranus has her in a world of his making. I can only get there through him.” Cronos explained to him. “I do need you and anyone who can think logically to help me figure out what Uranus is up to.”
“What do you mean?” Kane inquired, perplexed.
“Well, Uranus is acting like he is tired of this revenge game suddenly. That he wants to make amends to the girls. Not to us his children. He says, especially after spending time with his granddaughter, he sees what he did was wrong. I can’t help thinking he has an ulterior motive.” Cronos continued to tell Kane, “He is up to something, and I just cannot figure out what it is.”
Kane nodded his head in agreement, saying, “Alright, I will gather the ones that can keep their wits and not go off halfcocked. I do not think it a good idea to tell Nathan any of this yet.”
Just as Cronos was going to answer, Nathan said, “Too late. And I want Hyperion here now!”
