Uncle Ed could not look at me which made me feel even more worse than I already did. I knew that he was not telling me the whole truth.
It was only when Max cleared his throat and spoke up that I glanced his way.
“Isla, I think it would help if you both calmed down. I can understand your concerns, but rest assured that your family will come to no harm.” He promised and I nodded, hugging my knees to my chest, and wondering how it had come to this.
I missed my life before I went back to Pembroke, now it seemed that bad luck would follow me everywhere.
“They are not your family.” Uncle Ed turned to me and growled. I could see he was trying to control the anger inside of him. His body language gave that away, with his clenched fists, red face and raised voice.
Max sent him a warning glare, but he continued to ignore that.
I was confused.
How could he say that they were not my family when they clearly were?
He just meant that after all the things that had happened, they did not deserve to be my family.
“Nobody knows where Daniel is, and your parents are liars. Your sister is also a filthy liar. Criminals the lot of them.” Uncle Ed stood up, punched the table, and overturned it causing me to jump up and cower in the corner. Never had I experienced this from my uncle before. He had always been kind and caring to me. He had never lost his temper towards me in the whole time that I had been here.
“That is enough, Edward.” The Lycan King demanded, and Uncle Ed immediately backed down.
Taking a last look at me, he left the room and let the door slam hard after him.
I stayed where I was, tears streaming down my face while Cleo howled sadly in the back of my mind. I felt so confused.
Was my whole life really such a big lie?
How did the Lycan king, my own mate, know about this and I did not?
He must be ashamed to have such a muppet like me as a mate.
I could not blame him if he decided to reject me since I was a snotty, snivelling mess right now.
Max came to me, wrapped his arms around me and picked me up into his big strong arms.
“Isla, your uncle is not your uncle.” Max whispered gently, wiping my tears, and kissing my face. He held me so close that I felt a huge rush of warmth and calmness wash over me.
“Then who is he?” I asked, my voice was all shaken and sounded terrible.
“Your father. I am your father.”
Ed.
I looked up in shock to see him standing on the doorway looking extremely broken. His face full of remorse as he locked eyes on me.
Max was still holding me and gestured for me to take a seat which I accepted. If it were not for him then I really do think that my body would have given in and fallen to the ground in a heap.
This was all too much for me.
How could my uncle be my father. He was the alpha of eclipse. His sister was my mother and that made no sense to me whatsoever.
“Please, give me a moment to explain.” He said and I agreed.
I needed to know everything because this was a massive shock to my system.
