Between Four of Us

Chapter 37

Ch. 37 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

Chaos erupted in the warehouse. Arguments turned into shouts as the tension escalated, the boys trying to formulate a plan while Evelyn loomed over them with a sinister smile. Camille’s heart raced as she felt the heat of confrontation, a mixture of fear and anger surging within her.

“You think you can control us?” Leo shouted, stepping forward defiantly. “We’re not afraid of you or your twisted games!”

“Leo, stop!” Camille pleaded, but he didn’t listen.

“You all are naive,” Evelyn replied, her voice dripping with disdain. “You think you can escape this? I’ve built an empire, and I won’t let you ruin it.”

“No one’s ruining anything,” Noah shot back. “We’re putting an end to this!”

But before anyone could react, a gunshot rang out, echoing like thunder in the enclosed space. Camille’s heart dropped as both Evelyn and her mother collapsed to the ground, gasping in shock.

“Mom!” Leo yelled, rushing to his mother’s side, panic etched across his face.

Camille felt frozen, her breath hitching as she turned to see who had fired the shot. Her gaze fell upon Ava, standing at the entrance of the warehouse, a gun clutched tightly in her hand, her face twisted with a mixture of triumph and rage.

“Surprise!” Ava sneered, a twisted smile spreading across her lips. “Did you really think I’d let you get away with all of this? You’ve made a mess of my life, Camille.”

“Ava?” Camille gasped, disbelief washing over her. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to finish what I started,” Ava replied, her eyes gleaming with a dark satisfaction. “Your family took everything from me. Now it’s your turn to feel the pain.”

“No!” Noah shouted, stepping protectively in front of Camille and the boys. “You don’t have to do this!”

“Oh, but I do,” Ava retorted, her voice cold as ice. “You’ve all played your parts in this little drama. But now the final act is here. And guess what? There’s no happy ending.”

Camille’s mind raced, trying to process the chaos unfolding before her. “Ava, you don’t have to hurt anyone else,” she pleaded, her voice shaky. “This won’t fix anything.”

Ava scoffed, her finger twitching on the trigger. “You still don’t get it, do you? This is about more than just revenge. It’s about power. It’s about making sure no one gets in my way again.”

As Camille stepped forward, desperate to reason with her, she noticed Evelyn stirring on the ground, her face pale but still alive. “Ava, listen to me! You can stop this! We can figure something out!” Camille’s voice cracked, urgency and desperation spilling over.

Ava laughed bitterly, her gaze shifting between Camille and the boys. “You really think I’d let any of you live after everything? You’re all too dangerous, too unpredictable. And I can’t have loose ends.”

Suddenly, there was a commotion behind Ava as a group of men, her father’s associates, stepped out of the shadows, their expressions grim and ready for a fight.

“What’s going on here?” one of them barked, eyeing Ava warily.

Ava’s expression darkened, and she quickly shifted her attention. “I’m handling this! Get back!”

But before anyone could react, Evelyn pushed herself off the ground, groaning in pain as she looked at Ava with a mix of anger and fear. “You think you can just waltz in here and take control? You have no idea what you’re up against!”

“Shut up!” Ava snapped, her voice cracking. “You’re just a pawn in this game, just like everyone else!”

Camille felt the air grow thick with tension as both sides prepared for an explosion. She needed to find a way out, a way to protect her friends and her mother. “Ava, please! We can talk about this! This isn’t the answer!”

But Ava’s expression hardened. “Talk? You really think I want to talk after everything you’ve done?”

With a sharp inhale, Camille suddenly realized they were running out of time. She had to act before the situation spiraled completely out of control.

“Ava, you’re better than this! You’re smart! Don’t let your anger consume you!” Camille shouted, her heart pounding in her chest.

Ava hesitated for just a moment, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her features. But it was all the opening Camille needed.

“Think about what you’re doing!” Camille pressed, her voice earnest. “Is this really what you want?”

But as she reached out a hand toward Ava, there was a loud crash from the other side of the warehouse, making everyone jump. The boys turned their heads in surprise, and that split second was all it took for Ava to regain her focus.

“Stay back!” she shouted, her gun aimed once again. “You don’t know who you’re messing with!”

“None of us know who we’re messing with!” Camille cried out in frustration. “You’re right in the middle of this madness too!”

Suddenly, before Camille could say anything else, one of the men stepped forward, his voice low and dangerous. “Ava, we need to leave. This isn’t worth it. You’re not thinking clearly.”

But Ava’s face twisted with fury. “You think I’m just going to walk away? After everything they’ve done to me?”

The situation hung in the air, tension thick enough to slice with a knife. Camille could feel the impending explosion, the culmination of betrayal, anger, and fear. And she knew they had to act fast before it all imploded.

“Boys, we need to take her down!” Noah urged, positioning himself protectively in front of Camille.

Camille nodded, determination burning in her chest. This was it. They had to find a way to end this, once and for all. “On three,” she whispered to Noah and Leo, her eyes never leaving Ava.

One…

Two…

Three!
