Between Four of Us

Chapter 35

Ch. 35 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

Camille’s breath caught in her throat as her mother stepped forward, her gun glinting under the dim light of the warehouse. Her face was eerily calm, her eyes cold as they bore into Camille.

“Mom…” Camille whispered, her voice trembling. “What is this? Why are you doing this?”

Her mother sighed, almost as if she were disappointed. “Camille, you have no idea what I’ve been through—what I’ve had to do to protect you. Your father, he’s not the man you think he is. He’s been involved with dangerous people, with Victor, and more than you could ever imagine. He betrayed us, Camille. He betrayed me.”

Camille’s heart pounded in her chest as she looked from her father’s battered figure to her mother’s chillingly composed face. “But why are you holding him hostage? You said he tortured you—how could you do the same to him?”

Her mother’s lips twisted into a bitter smile. “I had to. I had no choice. I needed leverage, Camille. He was never going to tell me the truth on his own. But more than that, this isn’t just about me and him. It’s about power. It’s about the life we could’ve had if it weren’t for him—and Victor.”

Camille’s mind was spinning, trying to grasp the reality of what her mother was saying. “You… you’re behind all of this? The messages, the kidnapping? You’ve been orchestrating everything?”

Her mother gave a slow nod. “Not alone. I had help.”

A shadow shifted behind Camille, and before she could turn around, another voice echoed through the warehouse.

“I am the other one,” Evelyn said, emerging from the darkness with a smile that sent chills down Camille’s spine.

“No,” Camille whispered, her voice breaking. She looked between her mother and Evelyn, the two women who had been central to her life in this chaotic mess. “Evelyn… how could you?”

Evelyn shrugged, her smile never faltering. “Your father and Victor had plans that would have ruined everything. I couldn’t let that happen. We couldn’t let that happen.”

Camille felt the weight of betrayal crushing her. “You two… you did this together? Everything?”

Her mother stepped closer, her gun still pointed at her father. “It’s more complicated than you think, Camille. Victor wasn’t just a business partner to your father—he was in deep with dangerous people. We had to stop him before things got worse. And your father, well… he was collateral damage. He’s part of the problem.”

Camille’s eyes filled with tears as she shook her head. “This can’t be happening. You both lied to me… you hurt people… why?”

“Because we didn’t have a choice,” Evelyn said softly, stepping up beside Camille’s mother. “Victor’s business, his power—it would’ve consumed everything, including you. We had to take control before it was too late.”

Camille’s hands clenched into fists as she felt her world unraveling around her. Her father, bloodied and beaten, groaned from the chair. “Camille… please… don’t listen to them.”

Her mother’s eyes darkened, and her grip on the gun tightened. “Don’t trust him, Camille. He’ll say anything to save himself. He’s the reason we’re all in this mess.”

Camille looked at the boys—Noah, Leo, and Matthew—who were standing frozen behind her, their faces a mix of shock and disbelief. They had no idea how deep this conspiracy ran, how twisted everything had become.

“What now?” Camille’s voice cracked as she looked between the two women. “What do you want from me?”

Her mother’s eyes softened slightly, though the coldness never left her face. “I want you to understand why I did what I did. This was for us, for our future. But now, you need to decide. Do you stand with us, or with him?”
