Leo’s face was a mask of anger, fists clenched at his sides as he turned to Noah, eyes blazing. “You need to know this, Noah. Matthew kissed Camille!” His voice was raw, practically shaking with the intensity of his emotions.
“What?” Noah’s brows shot up in disbelief, and he glanced between his brothers and Camille, who stood there frozen, caught in the middle of their explosive tension.
“Are you serious right now?” Noah spat, stepping closer to Leo. “In the middle of all this? You’re telling me Matthew thought it was a good idea to kiss her? What were you thinking, Matt?”
Matthew stood his ground, a stubborn look on his face. “I was trying to comfort her, Noah! She’s hurting, and we’re all dealing with our own mess right now.”
“Comfort her? By kissing her?” Noah shot back, his voice rising. “This is exactly what we need—more drama! She’s already dealing with enough as it is!”
Camille felt the heat rise in her cheeks, the weight of their scrutiny pressing down on her. “Stop it! This isn’t helping!” she shouted, desperate to quell the escalating argument. “Can we please focus on the real issue here?”
But her words fell on deaf ears. Leo stepped closer to Noah, fists at the ready. “You want to defend him? What about you, huh? You’ve always had your eyes on her too! Are you really going to act like you’re above this?”
“Guys! Please!” Camille cried, her voice breaking as she watched the confrontation spiral. “This isn’t about me! We need to come together right now!”
Just as the tension threatened to boil over, their mother, Evelyn, emerged from the house, her face pale and drawn. She glanced between her three sons and Camille, and her voice rang out, sharp and filled with pain. “What is going on here?”
“Mom, Matthew kissed Camille, and Leo’s losing it!” Noah explained, his voice tight with frustration.
Evelyn’s eyes widened, and she stepped forward, her face a mixture of shock and anger. “Is this really the time for this? Your father is dead! He cheated, and all you can think about is who loves whom? What is wrong with you?”
The words hit Camille like a punch to the gut. Evelyn’s grief was palpable, but so was her frustration. “Mom, we’re trying to sort through everything! I didn’t ask for any of this!”
“None of us did!” Evelyn shouted, her voice trembling with emotion. “But you need to understand that this family is falling apart. Your father’s choices have torn us apart! And you three are so wrapped up in your feelings that you’re missing the bigger picture!”
Matthew opened his mouth to speak, but Camille interjected. “Evelyn, I know you’re hurting. We all are. But we need to work together, not fight about who I care for. This isn’t just about me—this is about our family, and our parents.”
Evelyn paused, her expression softening slightly as she took a breath. “You’re right, Camille. But we can’t ignore what’s happening. We have to be vigilant. Whoever is behind this isn’t done with us yet.”
Just then, Camille’s phone buzzed again, a sharp reminder of the impending danger. She pulled it out hesitantly, her heart racing as she read the message.
“If you want to see your parents again, you need to figure out who you trust the most. Choose wisely.”
Camille felt her stomach drop. “Guys… it’s another message.”
“What does it say?” Leo asked, tension still thick in the air.
“They want me to choose who I trust the most,” Camille replied, her voice shaking. “What does that even mean?”
“Don’t do it, Camille!” Noah urged, stepping closer. “We’ll figure this out together.”
But Matthew interjected, a serious look in his eyes. “What if they’re trying to divide us? What if this is a way to manipulate you into making a choice that could put one of us at risk?”
“Exactly!” Leo added, his anger shifting into concern. “They want to see us fighting. They want to break us down!”
“Then we need to outsmart them,” Evelyn said, her voice steadying as she stepped in. “We can’t let them control the narrative. We’ll all stand together, and we’ll figure this out as a family.”
Camille nodded, feeling a flicker of hope amidst the chaos. “Okay, then let’s stick together. We need to find out who’s behind this and protect each other. No more secrets, no more fighting.”
As they all exchanged determined glances, the resolve began to strengthen among them, even as uncertainty loomed in the air. They were in this together, and whatever lay ahead, they would face it side by side.
But just as they began to feel a sense of unity, another message pinged on Camille’s phone. She opened it quickly, her breath hitching at what she saw.
“Meet me at the bridge tonight. Alone. Or you’ll regret it.”
Camille’s heart raced, fear flooding her veins. “I have to go,” she whispered, the weight of the ultimatum hanging heavy in the air.
“No, Camille! You can’t go alone!” Matthew shouted, panic flashing across his face.
“I can’t risk anyone else getting hurt. I have to do this,” she insisted, feeling the pressure of the situation mounting.
Evelyn grabbed her arm, her grip firm but desperate. “You don’t have to do this alone, Camille. We’ll be there. I won’t let you walk into a trap without us.”
