Elena's POV
I woke up some hours later and found myself lying on a mat. Once I woke up, the first thought that came to mind was how I was about to get beheaded some hours ago. Immediately, I remembered about it. I jerked up from the mat and started touching my neck to see if I had any wounds on my neck or if they really beheaded me. I placed my head back, but happily, there weren't any wounds on my neck, and my burnt skin had healed by itself.
With that, I heaved a sigh of relief before placing my hand on my stomach, and happily, I could still feel my baby kicking.
Afterwards, I started looking around the room while wondering where I was and who had also rescued me from the people who wanted to behead me.
As these thoughts were still running through my mind, the door of the room suddenly burst open, and immediately an old woman walked into the room.
Once she saw me, she smiled at me before approaching me.
"Hi, my daughter, Are you finally awake?" she asked me before placing her hand on my forehead, and immediately I nodded positively.
"Hope you are feeling better now." She asked me while peering into my eyeballs as if she were looking for something, and immediately I nodded positively.
"And your child, how is he doing?" She asked me while placing her hand on my stomach.
"He's doing fine, but who are you and how did I get here?" I asked her while adjusting myself on the mat.
"I'm the Alpha of this pack," she said to me, and immediately I widened my eyes in surprise.
"You mean female Alpha?" I asked her with a surprised tone, and she nodded positively.
"I was inside my room this morning when I started hearing the cheering of the pack members. At first, I didn't want to come out because I thought that, as usual, they had captured a rogue, but something kept on urging me to come outside and see for myself. After some minutes of hesitation, I finally decided to come out, and once I came out, I saw my second son trying to execute you, not minding the fact that you are pregnant. Before he could lower the axe towards your neck, I blocked him, and after grounding him and Jared before everyone, I dismissed everyone and brought you in. I was afraid that something bad was going to happen to you or to your unborn child. Thank goodness nothing happened to the both of you," she said to me, and immediately I faked a smile at her.
"So tell me, from which pack are you from, and what were you doing all alone in a cave?" She asked me while sitting beside me.
With that, I bent my head because I didn't know if it was safe to tell her from which pack I came, and secondly, I'm not good when it comes to lying.
"What is the issue, dear? You know you can confide in me; mind you, I'm a mother like you, and I mean no harm to you; if not, I wouldn't have stopped my sons from killing you," she said to me, and immediately I nodded in agreement.
"I'm from Wolfeenwood Pack," I said to her, and she nodded.
"And who's the father of the child?" She asked me once again.
"The Alpha of our pack," I said to her after some minutes of hesitation, and immediately she widened her eyes in surprise.
"What? You mean Alpha Darian?" She asked me, and I nodded positively.
"Then what are you doing in the forest?" She asked me with an inquisitive look.
"Actually, I ran away from his castle," I said to her while avoiding her gaze.
"Wait, I don't understand; you mean you ran away from Alpha Darian's castle with his unborn child?" She asked me, and I nodded once again while avoiding her gaze.
"Unbelievable," she said to me while scrutinizing me.
"Do you even have any clue what he's going to do to you when he finds you?" she asked me, but I remained silent.
"By the way, why did you run away? Did he reject you, was he mistreating you, or did he abuse you?" She asked me with an inquisitive look.
"Actually, he did to me everything that you mentioned except for the rejection, and if he didn't reject me, it's because he wasn't aware that I'm his mate," I said to her, and immediately she furrowed her brows at me.
"If he doesn't know that you are his mate, then how come you are pregnant for him?" She asked me inquisitively.
"Actually, I was sold to him by my stepfather as a breeder; all I had to do was bear him an Alpha pup, and he would let me go. But on getting there, I discovered that he was my mate, but the ruthless Alpha didn't recognize the mate bond; he made my life in his castle a living hell, while I, on the other hand, was expecting him to recognize the mate bond soon, but he didn't. Instead, I later discovered that I was nothing but a tool for him to exploit," I said to the Alpha, who heaved heavily.
"I must admit, you have been through a lot, and to be sincere, I'm not surprised. Everyone knows how cruel Alpha Darian is, but I didn't imagine that he could also be cruel towards the she-wolf that is going to bear him an Alpha pup even though she isn't his mate," the Alpha said to me with a dejected tone while placing her hand on my shoulder, but I remained silent while bending my head in grief.
"By the way, what's your name?" She asked me.
"Elena," I replied, and she nodded.
"I can allow you to stay in my pack, Elena, but mind you, he will soon be here, and aside from that, we usually get attacked by rogues, so if you are going to stay with us, you have to learn how to defend yourself. Is that okay with you?" She asked me, and after some minutes of hesitation, I nodded in agreement.
"Perfect. I will go and talk to my sons about it. I hope that they will be okay with it," she said to me before standing up and walking out.
