"What if I tell you what their plan is?"
The viscount looked at me as if I just spoke a strange language.
"You know what their plan is?" He had a look of disbelief.
"I do," I replied impatiently and told him all I heard.
"I'll prepare a counter plan," he replied and left swiftly.
I watched him leave and I could smell his excitement. He was excited to ruin Melody's exfil plan and bring her down to her knees.
As much as I hated this act of his, I couldn't speak against it. At least not just yet.
I have too much to benefit from this.
A few hours later, the viscount returned with the plan. He fixed some soldiers everywhere around the port and sent spies to keep an eye on Dorian and Melody so that we'll be informed when they make a move.
I was surprised when I got the signal in the wee hours of the morning. I immediately headed to the port as agreed, but I wasn't expecting to find my parents and everyone else there.
I thought the plan was between the viscount and me, but apparently, he let everyone in on the plan. I wonder what he stands to gain from all this.
Agreed, that I'll achieve my dream of getting Melody and keeping my pups if this pushes through, but what's in it for Maximus?
Is this just to see Melody fall?
I arrived at the port and found Melody and the pups with Dorian and his guards all ready to set sail.
I was pissed.
She was fleeing.
Melody wanted to go away with my pups even though I begged her against it.
I was pissed to see Dorian holding my pups like he was their father. He couldn't wait to run off with my pups.
I dashed forward to attack him, but Melody jumped forward instead. She stood to defend him and in an instant she was replaced by a big snow-white wolf, leaving me wondering if this was her or someone else.
I couldn't speak. My hand hung in the air and every motive for attack disappeared and I was left with disbelief all I could say was her name as if to confirm that the wolf before me was Melody and not some caricature.
I was snapped back to the present when I heard the loud gasps from the others.
Apparently, I wasn't the only one stunned.
The viscount was far more stunned than I was. He stepped back to take a good look at the wolf.
"Melody has a wolf?"
Yeah well, this calls for repetition.
"And her wolf has the crown," Sophia added.
I didn't notice her presence until now.
"She is the wolf queen?"
I took another glance at the beautiful wolf in front of me and I could barely close my mouth at what I saw.
Indeed, Melody has the crown.
According to myth, the moon goddess would come back to reside amongst humans and when she comes, the only way to tell her apart would be the crown.
And right here now is Melody's wolf bearing the crown. Does this mean that she's the reincarnation of the moon goddess?
No. No... that can't happen.
How can Melody who was shamed and slammed by everyone be the reincarnation of the goddess?
What do I make of this new development?
Everyone in Mallory's kingdom knew of the tale of the goddess' coming. So, as soon as they saw Melody's wolf they all fell to their knees and bowed to the moon goddess' reincarnation. My Melody.
"Bless us, oh goddess."
I didn't know who said that, but I heard loud murmurs from around. Everyone concurred to the request and they all paid homage to her.
The Wayne family stood dumbfounded. None of them spoke. The viscountess had tears in her eyes as she looked at her scorned daughter.
Melody who was scorned and rebuked by everyone turned out to be the reincarnation of the goddess whom everyone had been waiting for.
That explains everything. Her sudden boldness and strange powers.
Faced by reality. I had no strength left in me to fight or bark out orders. I was confused and lost I didn't know what to do.
Melody on the other hand was ready to attack whoever tried to touch Dorian or the pups.
"Please do not leave us, goddess," Mother begged.
I couldn't figure out what was on her mind. Was she pleading because she wanted the goddess to remain in our pack and bless us? Or is she saying that just to have Melody stay so she would be around her grandkids? Or is it because she wants both?
The pups seemed stupefied as they watched their mother's wolf. Looks like they were seeing her wolf for the first time.
"We don't want trouble, we just want to go," Dorian stated.
Giovanni snarled as some soldiers moved closer to Melody. His body was slowly changing.
The hair on his body appeared and disappeared and his nails were easily replaced by long paws, stunning me beyond words.
Isn't he just a child?
How did he manage to have his wolf already?
Just when I thought the surprise was done, he shifted and so did Aaron.
More gasps were heard around and the soldiers all stepped back.
I couldn't figure out if they did that from amazement or fear.
Who doesn't know what these two pups can do?
We've all witnessed their strength and might and now we've seen the wonder hiding inside them.
"Just let them go," The viscountess shook her husband who seemed to have lost his voice.
His eyes weren't leaving Melody. He was looking at her like he was seeing a phenomenon.
Well, in a way it is.
I didn't know when Dorian shifted too until I saw a big grey wolf standing in his place.
He took advantage of our surprise and slowly went towards the ship with his back and soon they were all aboard.
"They are leaving!" I screamed, snapping everyone out of their dazes.
However, no matter how fast we ran, we couldn't catch up. They already set sail.
They were gone.
Melody left me.
