Melody
I opened my eyes slowly and turned to assess the room. I caught sight of that familiar relaxed ambience of the room and smiled with contentment.
It felt good to be home.
This is home.
This is where I belong.
I have come to love and appreciate this place so much. This pack means a lot more to me than anywhere else.
It has become a place I do not want to part with. My home. And Dorian has slowly become a part of me that I do not want to lose.
He can be cold to everyone else, but to me, he is that sweet man every lady wants. He is the man who sheltered me when my father sent me wandering off.
Dorian gave me solace and peace. He gave me a home.
Even though I didn't embark on this journey with love at first, now Dorian is my love.
My kids are my life and this pack is my home.
This is the place where I was accepted for who I am. Even though I was wolfless, no one looked down on me.
I was awarded as much respect as I deserved. My pups weren't targeted for being fatherless. No one mocked me. I lived my dream over here.
If I could have my mother and brothers over here with me then I would have gotten everything I wanted. But even though we're separated, I know that I could reach out to them through the phone.
Which brings me to the thought of my family. Ever since we departed from Mallory, I haven't been able to get through to anyone over there.
Neither was Malcolm answering his phone nor was Malfoy.
As much as I would love to forget everything about that place and live my life happily. I just can't forget my mother and brothers.
I got out of bed and immediately tried to reach them once again, but was met by the same tone. No one was answering.
"Happy morning," my favourite gruff voice called from the door.
"Happy morning, Dorian," I smiled as he kissed my head.
"How do you feel?" He sat beside me on the bed.
Ever since we returned to Dark Flame Pack I've been haunted by nightmares. I can't explain what it is that haunts my sleep, but I keep seeing a strange lady in my sleep.
"I'm fine," I smiled again.
Indeed, I felt good. It was the first time in a long time that I'd sleep without having a nightmare.
"Is that so?" He chuckled and brushed his finger through my lips.
"Yes," I confirmed.
He moved closer to me and took the phone out of my hand.
"Then why do you have your phone in your hand?" He pointed at my brow. "And why are your brows furrowed?"
He's got me.
I was never good at lying and with Dorian, I never had a reason to lie.
"It's my family. I can't reach them."
I know I might sound melodramatic, but it's my affection for my mother and love for my brothers.
I would be fine if I could reach them just once. However, being oblivious to their welfare left me so bothered even though I know that they can fend for themselves.
"They are okay, Mel," He cupped my cheek and stared deeply into my eyes. "They are perfectly fine." He emphasized.
Of course, I know that they must all be doing okay as Mallory is their forte and they can never be harmed as long as they all have each other.
Besides, my father and brothers with Derek are the four walls that hold that kingdom. As long as they stand then so will the kingdom otherwise I don't know what will happen.
Nevertheless, I know Malcolm. He's never missed my call for anything except if there's an emergency or a situation where he cannot help.
"I wish I could speak to my mother," I let out the truth.
My mother was in poor health. Even though she was quick to recover upon my arrival back there, I fear that she might relapse upon my departure.
"I'll find a way," he said.
I turned abruptly to look at him. I was surprised that he was still interested in matters related to my family after all that happened in Mallory but the man is so understanding.
"You'll find a way?" I asked again.
Because as far as I know Dorian, he'd go the extra mile to make me happy.
"Relax Mel. I'll find a way," he repeated and kissed my head.
"Thank you," I hugged him.
I couldn't ask for more from the goddess or life. I mean, even though I had a terrible childhood. I was compensated with a sweet man like Dorian. Two lovely kids and an amazing wolf.
What more could I ask for?
"Anything for you honey," he rubbed my back and brushed my hair aside as he placed a kiss on my shoulder.
"Alpha!"
A knock came on the door just as Dorian was about to kiss me.
"Who is there?" He demanded.
The door opened and one of Dorian's guards came in looking worried.
"What is it?" The sweet Dorian was gone.
He was now replaced by the cold and stoic alpha. His voice was authoritative as he spoke to the trembling guard.
"Alpha the..... the ..."
Dorian stood up abruptly and glared at the stuttering guard.
I sat straight to listen to whatever the guard had to say because I could tell that the news wasn't good. Judging from the guards trembling hands.
"Quit stuttering and tell me what has happened?" Dorian barked, making the guard tremble further.
"Alpha, the fort is...."
The guard paused to catch his breath before completing the words.
".... We're under attack."
My eyes widened and I jumped.
"We're what?" I asked in amazement.
I have spent six years in the Dark Flame Pack and no one has gotten close enough to attack the fort. Not even the rogue king.
I wonder who is daring enough to attack the pack. However, no matter how hard I thought all I could think of was just a name.
Derek.
