Derek
“I’m here to talk about our bond.”
A frown crept up on my face as she mentioned the word bond. Why did she choose to visit my room without my consent? Besides, what made her think that I was interested in listening to whatever she had to say about the bond?
“What bond are you talking about?”
I furrowed as I walked further in, slowly closing the door. I wouldn’t want anyone else finding out about this shitty bond. Especially not Malcolm
“You know what I’m talking about,” she circled me as she spoke.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I lied, staring straight into her eyes.
“Really?” she laughed. “Do you not feel anything?” she touched my hand.
My body jolted as the current ran through me like sea waves. I stood still and made sure that my face showed no emotion. I wouldn’t let her know that she affects me.
“What are you doing?” I snarled, fighting the urge to push her away.
It took a lot for me to realize that a woman should be treated with care and respect. I do not want to return to that person who hurt the woman he loves.
“Reminding you that I am your mate.”
“My mate? And you?” I scoffed. “Nah, you must be mistaken.”
“Am I?” She laughed.
Yes, you are.” I affirmed in a strong tone. “You wouldn’t say that I’m your mate when I already have a mate of my own. In fact, my visit to Dark Flame is to get my mate.”
She seemed stunned by my words and she looked like she would cry.
“You have a mate?” she repeated.
“Of course,” I affirmed. “I have a mate and she is waiting for me in the Dark Flame pack.”
Estrella became mute. She sat on the chair and dropped her head dejectedly. “Then what is this that I feel? How do I explain the spark that I feel every time you come close to me? Why does this happen to me?”
What did she mean by that?
Has she experienced this before?
I thought I was the only one who had been through this spark once before but looks like she has also experienced this just as I have.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
She shook her head and stood up, slowly wiping her tears. “I’m sorry I acted that way toward you,” She looked at her feet as she apologized “I thought…. I thought you were…I thought you were my mate.”
Listening to her apology made me feel guilty.
Even though I feel the spark as much as she does, I just couldn’t accept it. How could I? Why should I accept another woman as my mate when Melody is the one I want?
Estrella is the type of woman I used to want but the goddess chose to make someone like Melody my mate. Now that I’m in love with Melody, she formed another bond with Estrella. What exactly does the moon goddess want from me?
For some reason, I couldn’t stand the tears in her eyes.
“Estrella,” I called and took her hand.
“It’s okay, Derek. It’s fine. I’m fine,” she chanted. Making it clear that she wasn’t okay.
“Shh…” I brought her close and stroked her back.
“Why?” She cried. “Why me? Why is the goddess punishing me? What have I done to deserve so much pain?”
My shirt became wet with her tears as she cried. Her agony in her shaky voice.
As far as I have known Estrella in the past few days, she is a girl with life. She smiles always and willingly goes the extra mile just to help others. She is strong and smart too. She is a woman of every man’s dream.
Hence, seeing her so broken made me feel terrible. Like I was the reason behind her pain.
“Everything will be fine,” I said in consolation but she shook her head and cried more.
“You don’t understand,” she sniffed. “Nothing is going to be fine with me. The goddess hates me.”
I took her to the chair and made her sit.
I don’t know why I was caring for her, but I just felt the need to wipe her tears and console her.
I gave her a glass of water and she gulped it. “I am the goddess’ most hated creation.”
I sighed and gave her shoulder a light squeeze.
“Why would you say that?”
I am not a fan of the goddess and her ways but I couldn’t agree with Estrella on her words. I mean, we were taught that the goddess is our creator and whatever she does is for our benefit. My feelings for Melody is a proof of that.
I disagreed with the goddess but the bond which I rejected turned out to be the one I badly wanted.
“Trust me, Derek, it's true.” She laughed bitterly. “The goddess enjoys playing with my life. First, she gave me hope and showed me what I could have. Then, she snatches it away before I even get it.”
I was confused by her words and only stared at her, waiting for her to go on.
“A prophecy was given during my birth that I’d be mated to the Alpha king of a faraway land.” she paused and scoffed. “No one knew where this alpha king would come from or when he’d show up.”
My heart hit rock bottom at her words.
Alpha king from a faraway land? Could that be me?
No. It definitely can’t be me.
This prophecy was given at her birth. A long time before my bond with Melody was born. So, it isn’t me. I am not the Alpha king that she’s been waiting for.
I can’t be.
This new information just complicated everything but I can’t rule out the spark I feel every time she touches me.
She sniffed and set the cup on the table. “You want to know why I left my pack, don’t you?”
I couldn’t speak, I could only nod.
“Well, just like now, I mistook someone else for my mate and…..”
