Pregnant and Rejected: His Wolfless Mate

Chapter 72

Ch. 72 / 111 Apr 02, 2026

Viscount

Was that Melody?

I blinked once. Twice and thrice but nothing changed. The person standing before me remained the same.

Melody was standing before me as a wolf. A white wolf.

My supposed wolfless daughter is a white wolf. The goddess' incarnate.

How did that happen?

Wasn't she supposed to be useless and wolfless?

I stared wide-eyed at Melody as she displayed her strength and anger.

From the day of her birth to this moment. I have always been mad at her even though the poor child has nothing to do with the past.

However, she reminds me of a past I so badly want to forget. Who would have thought a child born out of shame would turn out to be the goddess' incarnation?

I remember vividly all that happened that night at Silverstone Pack. I was drugged by my enemies when I visited the pack. I found myself in a room with a strange woman by my side.

Confused and scared, I left the room without informing anyone of my whereabouts. Good enough, I had completed the work for which I had gone there.

I couldn't get the thought of the incident out of my head. I couldn't stop wondering who the woman was and how I got in bed with that woman.

I would have known where to look if I knew who she was, but every effort to find her was futile. However, months later, I received a package from an unknown sender.

Inside the basket was a child and a note was attached to it saying that she was mine.

I tried everything possible to find the one who did that but failed. Stella fell in love with the child at first sight. She wanted to take her in and raise her.

Everything I did to change her mind fell on deaf ears. She insisted on keeping the baby and raised her right here in my house.

Probably due to the circumstances surrounding her birth, I never felt good around the child. Every time I see her all I feel is anger and rage.

She reminds me of that terrible conspiracy.

Melody grew up to be a sweet child. Her smile used to lighten up my days. I would always watch her from afar and smile to myself at her beauty.

She lights up everywhere she goes. But no matter how happy I am from afar, everything dissipates as soon as she comes close to me.

Sometimes I wish I could do better and be a good father to her, but she reminds me of my laxity.

I lost guard and the enemy got close to drugging me and that memory never stopped haunting me. I am Maximus Wayne. My name sends terror and fear to people's hearts, yet they respect me for my wits and brain.

How could that happen to me?

How could I have been so loose enough for the enemy to come close to doing that to me?

The anger and fury I feel every time I think about that incident is immeasurable. It multiplies every time I see Melody.

She has a lot of my features. Especially, my raven hair. However, my anger was greater than any other feeling I felt for her.

My hatred towards her Intensified when I discovered that she was wolfless.

I mean, there's no way in hell that I'd father a child without a wolf. That isn't possible in any way.

How could my child be wolfless?

This fact awakened a new kind of hatred for her in my heart.

If I really were her father then she would have inherited my wits, strength and other positive features, but she got none of that.

Stella believed that Melody was a special child, but all I saw was the result of a terrible mistake. An abomination.

I abhorred the coward who did that to me. If he was bold enough, he should have attacked me to my face not stealthily.

I detest the day I had to go on that journey in place of the king.

Since I couldn't find the one who threw such a stain on my garment, Melody had to bear the heat of it all even though she was the innocent one in all that happened.

And when I thought things couldn't get worse, Melody became pregnant with the child of an unknown man. How could I accept that?

She was wolfless and timid. She was the opposite of everything that I am. How could I watch her bring further shame to me?

Without a second thought, I cast her out of my life. I thought that everything would be fine with her departure from our lives but I was wrong.

As much as I dislike Melody I found that she resided in every part of my manor. Her presence couldn't be erased.

My flowers withered as soon as she left, reminding me that she was the caretaker of those plants.

I found myself missing those eyes that stared hopefully at me every time I hurled hurtful words at her.

It took her absence to make me realize that Melody holds a large part of me. I had told myself that I would let go of the past and embrace my daughter upon her arrival back in the pack. Especially after meeting her pups.

However, the rage returned upon seeing her and this time with great intensity. I don't know why this anger keeps rising every time I go close to Melody.

I was angered beyond words when I heard tales of the incident. Apparently, history was repeating itself.

Melody was bitten by karma.

I don't know what came over me when I figured that she was leaving with the alpha from Dark Flame Pack.

I wanted to beg her to stay back. I wanted to hold her with me. I wanted to hold my grandkids in my arms, but I just didn't know how to go about it.

They were amazing and cute. But how do I hold them with the same hand that tossed their mother aside when she needed me the most?

How could I kiss them with the same mouth that hurled offensive words at Melody?

How could I?
