Melody
"Stay back here, Mel."
I watched as Dorian dashed out of the room with the guard.
What the hell is happening?
How did Derek come so far to attack the Dark Flame Pack?
I couldn't wrap my head around the reason why he would come so far. I mean, what the hell does he want?
He didn't want me and I was blessed with someone better. He rejected me as his mate and I was blessed with a great mate. He snatched my innocence and I was blessed with the perfect compensation in the form of my pups. Yet, he wants to take all that away from me.
Who does he think he is?
This fight is between Derek and me. I wish I could put an end to this before it hurts innocent people further, but Dorian has asked me to stay here and I have no choice but to obey.
I was restless and kept pacing as I waited to receive news about what was going on out there.
I tried to contact Dorian through the link but it was blocked. I couldn't contact him.
I couldn't help being worried.
The door was locked from the outside. I couldn't step out to see what was going on. I didn't know how my pups were fairing and I couldn't contact Dorian.
"Open the door!" I screamed as I heard some sounds by the door.
The door opened with a click, revealing a guard and a maid. They bowed as soon as they saw me.
"Where Is Dorian?" I demanded, leaving formalities aside.
"The alpha is at the forte," the maid replied immediately.
"The pups?" I asked immediately. "Have you seen Gio and Aaron?"
"They are in the Alpha's study," the guard relayed. I sighed in relief as I heard that.
"Take me there," I ordered.
I needed to see my kids and be sure that they were safe.
The guard led the way and took me to Dorian's study. Indeed, the kids were there with Claire.
"What's the status of things out there?" Claire asked as I stepped in.
My gaze darted to her side where I confirmed the presence of my pups, who were sitting so relaxed and calm like they didn't hear the news.
"I don't know," I shrugged.
Well, I didn't know what was going on for real anyway. I mean, the pack looks so quiet and peaceful.
It didn't look like anything was happening at all.
"Momma," Aaron hugged me. "Who is fighting Dorian?"
My baby thinks that someone is fighting Dorian. Well, in a way it is.
However, after careful deliberation, I concluded that there was no one with the motive to go as far as waging a war against the entire Dark Flame Pack.
It can only be Derek.
"Why are we not with Dorian?" Giovanni asked.
His eyes were fixed on the door as if he was hatching a plan to escape.
"Because Dorian wants you to stay safe," Claire replied before I could. "If there's a maniac out there, we don't want him hurting you."
"Sweetie, there's a war going on and....." I squatted to his height to explain better. "....The enemies might use you to get to Dorian."
Aaron squinted his eyes as he tried to understand what I meant.
"The enemy?" He repeated.
"Yes sweetie," I added, and his eyes flickered with a strange light. "We have some intruders in the pack."
"Why would anyone intrude on us?" Giovanni asked seriously.
His eyes searched the study room as if he was in search of the said intruder.
"Relax dear," Dorian is handling the intruder.
I tried to sound convincing, but Gio is just too good at reading me.
"If Dorian can handle the intruder, why are we hiding here? And why do you look so worried?"
Gosh. Sometimes I wish the kid wasn't as wise as he is.
"Let me answer that for you, Momma," he continued before I could reply. "We are hiding because the pack is being attacked by a strong enemy and Dorian thinks he is protecting us by keeping us here."
My jaw dropped at his words. Like, is this boy really a five-year-old? I mean, he speaks like an adult.
"....And, you look so worried because you haven't seen Dorian and can't connect with him." Giovanni met my gaze and smirked. "Am I right, Momma?
It's the first time that he's said so many words at once. However, I had no response from him this time because he was right.
"Dorian is fine."
I was convincing myself more than I was speaking to Giovanni.
"There's only one way to find out." He shrugged.
What a devil.
"He's right, Mel," Claire added. "We won't be of any help to my brother by hiding here."
Of course, I know that.
I know that I can't be of any help to Dorian by hiding like a coward. I am not that timid Melody anymore. I am not that girl who hides when her dear ones are in danger.
However, I will not put my kids in harm's way while I fend off enemies.
"Alright, I'll get you all to safety and....."
"No. If you're going to Dorian, then so are we."
I turned to look at Aaron and was stunned to see the devilish glow in his eyes.
I knew without a doubt that my pups wouldn't stay back while Dorian was in danger.
Even though I have seen how strong they are, I can't let them face this enemy, whoever he is.
I brushed my hand through his golden hair and kissed his cheek and I tried to make him understand.
"Aaron, dear, I can't let you go....." I paused as I noticed that Giovanni wasn't in the room anymore.
I stood up immediately and looked around for my son.
"Where is Gio?"
Claire also looked around. There was no sign of Giovanni.
"Where did he go?"
I was amazed at how quickly he disappeared and how he managed to disappear without our knowledge.
Holding tightly to Aaron's hand, I went out in search of Gio, but before we could go far, we bumped into Dorian. He looked worried as he approached us.
Dorian opened his mouth to speak, he was probably about to scold me for disobeying his order. However, a guard rushed towards us and immediately knelt.
"Alpha, we have news from the forte."
