Pregnant and Rejected: His Wolfless Mate

Chapter 73

Ch. 73 / 111 Apr 02, 2026

Viscount

I've been a terrible father and I know it. However, every time I tried to atone for my past sin I just so happened to ruin it with my vengeful personality.

Even though I knew that I had to handle my remorse with caution, I couldn't let go of my imposing character and embrace Melody. Instead, I wanted her to bend to my will but my daughter proved to me that she's all grown.

Melody proved to me that she's grown from being timid to being bold and outspoken.

She refused to be pushed around by anyone even though I was her father.

I was overjoyed when the King asked for my help to keep Melody in the kingdom because his will aligned with mine.

Never would I have thought that this would widen the rift between Melody and me.

I would always see that she was disappointed every time I spoke harshly to her. It bothers me to see her disappointed, but I am who I am, I do not go back on my words and that's one thing I regret now more than ever.

I wish.

I just wish I could turn back the hands of time and correct my wrongs, but my mistake was past redemption and the feeling was worse than anything I've felt before.

I watched in awe as the boat sailed off with my only daughter going far away from me. I wanted to stop her.

I so badly wanted to call out to her. To asked her not to leave me, but my voice chose that moment to betray me.

I couldn't utter a word.

I tried to move my hand to wave at her. To beckon her to stay back, but I just couldn't move my arm.

My body was stuck.

It felt like my soul had left my body. I couldn't lift a finger. My feet were rooted to the ground.

I couldn't tell if that happened out of shame or regret. All I knew was that my eyes were the only part of me that was alive. Every part of me dropped dead as I watched them leave.

Melody is gone.

Someone stop her! I tried to yell, but nothing came.

My lips were glued together.

As soon as the ship was out of sight, everyone came rushing towards me. I don't know what happened but they were shaking my body and calling out to me.

I tried to tell them that the noise was deafening but my mouth couldn't produce a sound.

What is wrong with me? I wondered as I watched them lift me off the ground.

Shouldn't they be finding a way to stop Melody?

Shouldn't they be searching for a way to bring back the Princes?

Why am I being lifted?

I saw the confused and worried expressions on each of their faces, but I couldn't ask why.

My tongue was glued to my mouth.

I couldn't speak a word.

Before I could realize what was happening, I was already in the infirmary.

Goddess. Why have they brought me here instead of going after Melody?

I couldn't do anything and watched as the doctor inserted some needles into my body.

I didn't realize when I fell asleep but when I opened my eyes again, several hours must have passed because I noticed that it was dark.

Melody must be far gone. I have lost my daughter.

However, before I could lose hope. The king arrived.

"How are you today, Viscount?" He stopped by my bed.

"I'm fine," I opened my mouth and surprisingly, I heard my voice.

I sat up immediately and looked at the king as I bombarded him with all I had to say.

"Melody, stop her."

"The Princes, don't let them leave. We should bring them back."

"They belong here. My daughter and your sons."

"Relax Maximus," Derek patted my shoulder.

I was surprised to see him so relaxed.

Wasn't he always so worried about having to lose Melody?

Now that she's gone, why does he seem so calm?

"Majesty, Melody is...."

I paused as I realized that I was acting the opposite of himself. I know that the king must be surprised to see me act that way.

He looked at me as if he was seeing a different person.

Well, I guess that's how you feel when you realize that you've lost a gem.

My daughter is the long-awaited queen. The goddess' incarnation.

"I already arranged the soldiers. We'll be scouting at first light."

I frowned at his words.

What does he mean by that?

Why would he want to scout?

"Well," he chose to clear my confusion. "I'll be going in search of my family and I won't stop until I have them back."

"Majesty," I tried to persuade him from doing that. "The Dark Flame Pack is very far away from Mallory and you're king. You shouldn't leave your kingdom." I paused as I thought oh a way to present it.

"Why don't you let me go?"

"Huh?" He raised his head and his brow furrowed.

I could smell his fury.

"You want me to do what?" His tone raised.

"Majesty, I...."

"You want me to sit back and wait while my mate and pups get away with someone else?" He scoffed and shook his head like he wasn't expecting to hear me say that.

"Majesty, I didn't mean to....."

Derek raised his hand to stop me from speaking further.

"I understand your condition." He muttered and tapped my shoulder.

My condition?

What does he mean by that?

"I will not sit back and watch my woman get taken from me." He sighed and turned to leave then paused. "I will kneel, cry and even beg if need be. But I will not let them go."

I listened to the king and couldn't help wondering how he'd changed in just one night. He is an even bigger control freak than I am. But now he is talking about begging. He wants to kneel to Melody.

I still find this unbelievable.

"Majesty, I can help...."

"No Maximus," he shook his head again. "Your help isn't required," He replied swiftly.

What does he mean by that?

Why isn't my help required?

As if he could read my mind he immediately replied, "I want Melody back, Maximus and your presence won't let that happen."
