Father Jose stared at me surprised at my reaction.
I breathed in trying to calm myself but it isn't working much. I was not the type that defended people, I was no hero or anything close to that, but I just hated it when good people
were taken for granted.
It is why we had good people becoming bad everyday because their goodness was taken for granted and not appreciated. Why do people mistake goodness for weakness?
I left a stunned Jose in the kitchen mouth agape eyes darting everywhere but avoiding my eyes. I walked briskly to the boys quarter and straight to the cooks room.
I banged hard on the door definitely startling whoever was inside.
Sarah was the one who opened the door almost immediately. Her eyes were puffy obviously because she had been sleeping while her boss was busy doing what she ought to do.
"Father Jose is hungry you should be cooking his food don't you think!" I asked. My voice sounded a bit harsh but it was better than screaming at her face.
She eyed me, hissed and made to go inside without saying a word to me.
"Oh no you don't!" I seethed, grabbing her arm. She turned around to look at me stunned but not afraid. "Did_ you_ just try to walk out on me?"
She scoffed.
"Do you have any idea who I am? do you have the slightest idea who is speaking to you? Mira is standing before you and you want to walk out on her?!" I half screamed.
"Sarah or whatever it is you call your name. You will leave your room right this instant and prepare breakfast for father Jose or so help Me God you will___ regret the day you set your eyes on me. Do not test me I am the girl your mother prays to God every night that you do not meet, I will destroy you. Now relay my message to the other cook because I might get mad and get you both arrested for the rest of your miserable life's!" I screamed.
I shoved her to the wall and exhaled. "Do you understand me?"
"Yes...yes..ma!" She stuttered.
I walked away happy that I was able to talk some sense into her.
In the kitchen I saw that father Jose had resumed cutting, he was now cutting tomatoes.
"She's coming soon you can drop the knife now!" I said, stepping into into the kitchen.
He turned around to face me with a smile on his face. "Thanks."
"For?"
"Looking out for me." He replied.
I smiled, shaking my head.
"You should look out for yourself you know. This world is not for the weak, there is a difference between being good and being weak. It is ok to be good but it is not ok to be weak. Let's liken the world to the animal kingdom only the strong animals survive, the weak ones get eaten or they end up running for the rest of their life's constantly in fear. Never look up to anyone to save you."
"Your outlook on life is quite deep for a girl your age." He chuckled.
"Well I have been weak before so I know how bad it is to be weak." I took in a deep breath. "I'm sorry for how I spoke to you yes__"
"It is ok." He cut in.
"No it's not ok! I was rude to you yesterday night and it was wrong of me. This is your house and it was totally unfair for me to ask you out of my room like that. It was also rude to have increased the volume of the music so high it was blazing. This is a parish house after all. I am sincerely sorry."
"I shouldn't have come into your room no matter what, I just wanted to be sure you were ok. I'm sorry too." He apologized, staring at his feet.
"It's alright. I'm going to class now, see you when I get back." I said, smiling genuinely at him
He cleaned his hands on a towel since he was no longer cooking. "Can I walk you out?"
"Of course you can."
