HIS EYES SCARED ME.
I shuffled on my feet confused on how best to answer his question. I blinked twice and gulped in air. For some reasons my legs were shaking, my hands too. All I wanted was to drop the file and leave, but it seemed as if Noah had something else planned.
If his plan was to push me off balance, to confuse me, to drown my mind, then he was doing a really good job of it. So many emotions welled up in my mind. I was angry, bemused, and filled with desire watching him sip that wine so seductively down his throat. His beards were so nearly shaven I wanted to run my hands thew it.
I couldn't comprehend why he was staring at me the way he was, as if I was the most beautiful thing in the world_ neither could I understand why he was asking me such an intimate question more so when I just saw a woman in his office, and not just a woman, a naked woman who was probably also an employee. .
This is definitely what he does with his other female employees and I was not special so why did I feel otherwise.
"I beg your pardon but I do not understand your question." I finally replied voicing out my astonishment. I cleared my throat, looking straight ahead to the city trying my best to avoid his deafening gaze.
He smirked taking another sip of his scotch. He turned around in his seat facing the glass wall.
The city was in view, clear and beautiful and full of life although everything looked small from the top. It always does anyway. Those at the top always looked at those below as though they were small. Noah must think so too.
"You know when I first saw you Mira, I thought to myself that you were really brave, do I have a reason to start doubting my assumption?"
I shuffled on my feet and cleared my throat.
"I don't know what made you have such an assumption in the first place when I was just another job seeking graduate looking for a job." I replied my brows raised. "Or am I missing something."
My voice was not my own, it was sharp even to my own ears. I felt like I was dying standing there listening to him, being under his gaze and scrutiny.
It was almost as if he was telling me something, giving me a clue as to who he was and what I was so desperately searching for. As if he was fucking my mind.
I felt as though the room was closing in on me. My boss was playing a game that I was sure of. What I wasn't sure of was if I were just a pawn in his game or another player possibly his opponent.
I was lying through my teeth and the way he smiled showed that he knew that what I had just said was bullshit.
But I was determined to keep him off my life, If all he was doing now was the line he used to get into the pants of all other of his employees, he wont use it to get to me.
I was determined to work with my head held high and not to be among the statistics of pussies he conquered.
I liked to assume that I was smarter that all the other women who worked here but I knew deep down, Mr Noah was making me feel things, things that were unusual.
The question was will I give in bearing in mind the fact that I had sworn my heart to someone else, someone who wasn't him?
He chuckled standing up, his height dominating and intimidating. "Hmm, I see where this is coming from. You saw Patricia." He said as a matter of fact.
He wasn't asking me, he was telling me and that left me confused because I didn't know who the hell Patricia was. He seemed to notice the confusion on my face and smiled.
"Patricia, the naked woman that was in here just a few minutes ago. Don't tell me you have forgotten her because I saw you peeping through the door."
He caught me. My mind fearfully registered the information. I coughed sporadically. My heart beat accelerated imagining what he thought of me.
"I wasn't peeping Sir. I came in to drop this file and I saw her so yeah." I said with shaky voice. "I left to give you both space."
God forbid him thinking I was in love with him.
"Oh common don't be scared. I knew you weren't peeping. I was just.... teasing you, lighten up a bit." He grinned.
"So tell me, Did you find her hot?" He asked with an amused expression on his face.
I choked. He was messing with my head. "Why did you take me out for dinner Sir and why did you kiss me?" I blurted out.
The question had been bothering me and I was not one to contain my curiosity in my heart for long. Still after I had asked him, I realized how stupid asking him was but there was no taking it back. Spoken words cannot be taken back.
I was vexed and like before I still had not perfected the act of keeping my mouth shut when angry.
I felt stupid. I thought I had changed this part of me but he was bringing it back again without much effort on his part. He was Bringing back the real Mira and it ached me from my head down to my core how he was turning me inside out just to see the real me, the me that I had tried to bury all these years.
His expression remained amused as If it was all a joke to him. "Why else would I? I like you."
"You like me or all your female employees." I scoffed.
