I WAS SO VEXED.
It took me more than 30 minutes to get myself together after Noah had left the conference room with a promise of war.
I walked angrily to my office and shut the door firmly behind me, not before giving Ella a strict warning not to disturb me.
I was even tempted to cancel all my appointments for the day, but I decided against it. I was tired of Noah influencing my life and decisions.
When I entered into my office I took my coat off and walked to my bar. Then I chose whisky out of the many bottles lined up. I took 2 shots of it, then dropped the bottle on the table.
Memories of Noah kept replaying in my mind. Memories of when he claimed me. When he took my soul, my heart and my body and made me his without him nor I knowing.
"Like I told you in the very beginning when we first met, You're mine! And when something is mine no one touches it. So when another man wants to touch you beg him to stop not for your sake but for his. No matter how many they are or how minute the touch is they will end up below the ground the moment they do. You are mine."
"I. Do. Not. Belong to you or anyone."
"I Do not belong to him or anyone." I kept repeating over and over again as I looked over the city, even though I knew that it was all just a lie I told myself.
I belonged to him, in mind and spirit.
No other man could take his place in my life. Even memories of him were more proficient in keeping me at peace that the presence of any other man. I was his in truth, it was the only truth. No other yes, but him.
Still I could not and would not allow myself to be toiled with.
I sighed deeply, facing the floor to ceiling window in my office that helped me keep in touch with nature and the city.
I looked through the window for a long time enjoying the view of the city.
Not thinking.
I couldn't think.
I could not feel.
Truthfully, I was trying to stop myself from crying, because I couldn't cry. I had to be strong for everything I had worked hard for and everyone I loved.
When I was calm enough to talk without stuttering. I took my bag and my phone and walked out of the office.
At the door I asked Ella to cancel all my appointments. I needed to sleep urgently. I didn't sleep a wink yesterday night thinking of today, so even though it wasn't obvious because my eyes barely had bags under it, I knew that I needed to sleep.
I needed to bury the thoughts of a certain someone that plagued my mind.
I wanted to go to the Inspectors office, but I decided against it. I would make the trip tomorrow for now I had to be calm. Noah just went against his restraining order and he would have to pay for it.
If he thought that America was like home where he had all the police men wrapped around his little finger then he had other things coming.
Seeing him really messed with my head big time. It brought back a lot of memories, memories I had tried so hard to forget all these weeks.
Jacob could not hide the shock on his face when I asked him to take me home as it had never happened before.
For one month I had been consistent and diligent with my work but trust Noah to change it all for me with his deceit induced presence.
I just don't know what it was about him that made me want to break down my walls just to let him in.
I rested my head on the car seat as Jacob drove me home. My mind was everywhere and no where at a time. I almost did not recognize my own home even though the grey colored mansion was outstanding. My mum outdid herself.
I came out of the car, giving Jacob a wry smile.
Walking into my house, I hoped to see just my housekeeper so I could instruct her to tell anyone that came looking for me that I was not around. But I ended up being disappointed as the first person I saw when I got into my house was Mike.
He was the last person I honestly wanted to see.
He was talking on the phone with God knows who and his back was turned to me while he put his free hand into his pocket. He was always so stylish, with his expensive tailored made suit and his gold cufflinks.
I didn't expect to see him because he was not supposed to be back from Italy until tomorrow. So it was either there was an emergency here that I did not know about or he sealed of the deal faster than I expected. I didn't know which option it was and I really didn't care at least for now.
I felt the urge to run up the stairs and not talk to him at all. I like Mike but something had always been off about him. Something about him just didn't sit well with me.
"Maybe it is just your love for Noah clouding your senses when it came to other men who were after your heart too." A voice in my head said.
I decided to wait for Mike to be done with his phone call, as I knew that if I should run up then he was sure going to make it an issue.
It was as if he sensed my presence because he turned back just as I stepped further into the parlour just by the stairs.
I was acting robotic, going towards the stairs even though reason did not agree with it.
He was clad in a dark green suit. His curled hair and high jaw made him look almost like a teenager. He was so handsome with his pink lips and tan skin but I was not moved by him. He just wasn't the man for me and I felt sorry for myself because I once thought that he could replace Noah, but he couldn't. No one can replace Noah and that's the truth I would soon have to accept.
"Mirabel." Mike called immediately he caught sight of me. He dropped his phone in his pocket, walking to me with fast strokes. "Why didn't you call me when you found out?"
I was standing on one feet confused about what he was talking about. He got closer to me and I took a step back. His blue eyes were filled with anger.
"What are you talking about Mike?" I asked not ready to quarrel with him. I was so not in the mood especially not with the migraine I started having immediately I saw him.
He snickered, then breathed out a laugh. " Oh please do not play ignorant with me. You know exactly what I am talking about! Why didn't you call me when you found out that Noah had not resigned!"
I blinked twice.
This is really not what I need now. My heart beat accelerated. I really wanted, needed to end this conversation. I didn't like when Mike was angry.
"Look Mike I am so not in the mood for this drama so I will just go upstairs and rest, we can talk about this later. When you are well rested and ready to talk to me calmly we can talk."
I tried to climb up the spiral stairs at the left side of the parlour but he held me back firmly.
"I am still talking to you Mira! Don't you dare walk out on me."
"You are hurting me." I cried out. His grip on my arm loosened a bit.
I wriggled my hand till it was out of his grasp. "What is wrong with you Mike!" I screamed.
"You are what is wrong with me! You Mira. You and Noah. He is trying to take you away from me can't you see that?! He wants all that is mine. He took everything my father would have left for me now he wants you too!"
We were both now breathing hard out of anger. I was livid at his outburst most especially because I did not expect it.
When I saw that my anger would only make things worse and it won't change anything I decided to be the bigger person and calm down.
"Look Mike." I started. "I am sorry that I did not call you I just didn't think it was necessary. You yourself told me to get the contract signed and that there should be no excuse. I just went with your instructions nothing more."
"Not when your Ex is the Ceo of course that is an extraordinary situation that calls for flexibility. Did you not think that it would bother me? and worst still I had to hear it from someone else not even my girlfriend." His voice was still a bit high pitched but he was calmer now.
Good. I wanted the conversation over soon. I soon regretted telling him about by relationship with Noah but he had me cornered when I told him. He had found out about the restraining order against Noah and wanted to know why I did it. The best lie I could come up with was that we were secretly dating for weeks until he started harassing and stalking me. Mike hated Noah and so my explanation went down well with him. He didn't go looking for answers and that's all that mattered to me then because I couldn't let him find out who Noah really was.
"Look Mike I am sorry. You are right I should have thought about calling you but I just needed the contract done with. You yourself said that. I was just thinking of what was best for you and for the company. I should have called you and there is no excuse. I am sorry."
Mike exhaled. My calm exterior certainly deflated him. He hugged me gently while I just stood still in his embrace. He smelt so nice but I wanted to be away from him, for some reason I was scared of him. Very scared. "I am sorry for yelling at you. I just.. I just let my jealousy get the best of me. I don't want to lose you Mira. Please forgive me."
"There is nothing to forgive. I understand you. Let me go up and rest I have a migraine." I replied, pulling myself from his embrace.
"Sure." He pecked my forehead and smiled. "I will leave soon."
I nodded and went up.
When I got up I entered my room and lay flat on the bed.
After a while I changed my clothes to something more comfy then I brought out some paper works to see if I could work on them. But I couldn't.
I felt so restless. I didn't know what was wrong with me, nor why I felt this way but I just need it to end. I was looking at all the work I need to do, all the proposals I needed to write and sign but I could not write, neither could I read.
My legs kept shaking and my heart was beating so fast, It was forcing me to remember all the things that I had chosen to forget. All the things I had buried in my heart.
I wanted to cry but tears did not come.
I was giving up on burying my feelings on burying the pain and hurt I felt, of putting bandages on open wounds.
I just closed my eyes and let the tears pour out as I remember How I found out that everything I believed in, that everything I fought for, that the one I loved and the battles I conquered was all just a plan made by a psycho to get me to fall for him and fall for him I did in the hardest way.
I fell hard but he broke my heart and my trust and I broke his.
It has been an emotional rollercoaster what we have both experienced and from fighting for love we were now fighting each other and it all began that day.
I tried to close my eyes, to rest for the day but a sound woke me up. I jerked up turning to where the noise had come from. White Lion was standing there when I turned around. I gasped, my eyes widened like saucers.
"What the fuck are you doing here?!" I shouted jumping out from my bed. She held my waist and pushed me back down so that I fell down, my ass hit the soft bed with a thump. Our eyes locked as he looked down on me.
"What are you doing here?!" I repeated, my voice a gentle whisper. He shook his head and sat down by my side on the bed. I shifted a bit so there was space between us, I took in a deep breath trying to calm my raging heart courtesy of his presence, and his intoxicating scent around me. "You know there is a restraining order against you. If you don't leave I would call the police."
He turned my cheeks to face his, his eyes filled with so much love I gasped.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I'm sorry for who I was and for what I did to you. I am no longer that person. I am just Noah Agu the man who loves you. You are in my veins and I cannot get you out." He moved closer so that our nose touched then he inhaled deeply, taking in my scent. "I cannot let you go. I love you and I know that you love me too. Tell me that you don't love me anymore Mira and I will leave."
I inhaled deeply subconsciously running my hands through his hair. "I love you." I confessed sniffing. "I love you."
