Dane's POV
The second I stepped out of the room, freeing myself from Ivar's hold and clutches, my fist clenched tightly, my eyes fixed on a spot, and my attention focused on where I was heading to search for my mate.
Last night, I was searching the streets, but there was a strong possibility that Astrid had been taken away from the pack, and what I was doing was useless.
I was willing to go to great lengths to find her. I understood that I didn't love her, but there was definitely no harm in trying.
“I won't forgive you, Halfdan… just pray you are not with her!” I uttered through gritted teeth as I exited the mansion.
The second I got out of the mansion and was about to take a step forward, a strong grip held my hand from behind. Turning around, I found Beta Ivar panting right behind me.
“And what's the meaning of all this, Ivar?” I asked, glaring at him. Immediately, he let go of my hand.
“I'm not here to try to stop you, Alpha Dane, but I still can't let you drive…” Ivar notified me, and because I didn't want to cause a scene again like last night, I turned on my heels and walked towards the car.
I didn't get into the driver's seat but rather the back seat. The second Beta Ivar climbed into the car, he didn't hesitate to ignite the engine.
“What's our destination, Alpha Dane?” he asked, his hand placed on the wheel.
“The Greenstone pack! It's obvious they are playing games here!” I informed him, and immediately, Beta Ivar nodded in acceptance of my command.
“Hold on tight…” he demanded, and without hesitation, he stepped on the accelerator, propelling us out of the mansion and hitting the highway.
He drove faster than I had ever seen or expected him to. I was genuinely surprised, and it pleased me. At least, I could find out where they were hiding Astrid at this moment.
On our way to the Greenstone pack, I couldn't help but think about Astrid and how badly I had treated her. I was willing to change all that. I was willing to help her heal from her past.
After what felt like an eternity, we soon arrived at the gates of the mansion, and I didn't hesitate to climb out of the car.
I pushed the gates open, expecting to find guards mounted by the sides, but to my surprise and astonishment, I couldn't find any. This made my brows crease immediately.
“What's happening? Is Halfdan really with my mate?” I pondered, standing still for a split second and looking around.
“Alpha Dane, don't you think we should go? Something isn't right here!” Beta Ivar suggested, heavy breaths leaving his lips.
“Go? Giving up was never an option, Ivar!” I declared with a deep voice before I began to walk toward the entrance of the mansion.
The second I stepped foot inside, I found Halfdan seated in his living room, smiling happily with some guests.
My fist clenched with several thoughts slamming through my mind.
‘You think you can relax with my mate in your grip? Never!’ I said inwardly as I stormed toward where he was sitting.
The second he saw me marching closer, he stood to his feet, his eyes glaring at me.
“Who gave you the right to come in here?” Halfdan questioned. He was trying his best to be the tough and powerful Alpha, but we both knew that wasn't possible; not when I was involved in such matters.
“Who gave you the right to take my Luna away from my pack?” I growled furiously, my intentions clear; I needed to accuse and question him.
I needed to act like I knew he had my mate and watch him expose himself.
“Your mate? You mean Astrid?” he scoffed, folding his hands across his chest.
At this moment, everyone sitting before him had left in fear, and it was just Halfdan and me.
“Why would I be with her? It's not like she attracts me in any way. I don't deal with weaklings, Dane! Astrid is nothing but a weak Omega, and I can't be found anywhere near her!” Halfdan sneered and was about to sit back on the couch, but then, I couldn't hold in my fury.
“How dare you?” Before he could turn to defend himself, I punched him hard, making him fall to the ground.
“Have you gone nuts, Dane?” he bellowed, crawling backwards on the floor and trying to get away from me.
“Where is my mate, Halfdan!?” I asked again, towering over him at this moment.
“What do you mean? I am not with her, but trust me, Dane… if I was, I wouldn't hesitate to make her my sex slave because that's the only thing I see she would be good for!” he spat, which immediately infuriated me.
“Who gave you the right to speak ill about my Luna?” I kicked him in the stomach, tumbling him on the ground.
“Where is Astrid! Speak to me, and I'll let you go, but keep playing games, and you die here!” I warned as I went closer to him again.
“I am not … I don't know where she is!” he stuttered, coughing at this moment.
“If you are not, then who is? Who has my mate, Halfdan?” My fist clenched as I glared at him. He was the only one I had in mind.
“How am I supposed to know, Dane? Last time I checked, the rogues attacked your pack! Don't you think you should go after the rogues or who sent them rather than transferring your aggression to me?” Halfdan retorted, making me pause briefly.
He wasn't wrong, and it made me realise the mistake I had made coming to him. There had never been any rumour that Halfdan was with the rogues.
“You…” I was about to say, but just then, Beta Ivar rushed into the room, panting.
“We should leave now, Alpha Dane! His men are on their way!” Ivar informed me, my eyes fixed on Halfdan, who let out a painful laugh, seeing that his men were coming to save him.
“You'll regret doing this, Dane!” he snarled, clutching his stomach.
I was glad I had hit him so hard.
