REJECTED; Mated To The Alpha I Hate

56: Fifty six

Ch. 56 / 118 Apr 29, 2025

Astrid's POV.

Dane and I both got out of the car. As we walked, I noticed that several people passing by seemed to be staring at me. Their whispered conversations only added to my confusion. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

Was I late? What kind of trick was Camilla trying to pull now? She always had so many schemes, and it was starting to really frustrate me.

I walked across the grounds and entered the main hall. Inside, everyone was focused on Camilla. She had a sly, mischievous look in her eyes that immediately made me uneasy. I could tell that look meant trouble.

“Let the rites begin!” she announced with a wide smile.

“Not so fast!” I shouted sharply, cutting through her announcement. Her face flushed with sweat and her composure cracked, revealing her growing stress and confusion.

I watched with satisfaction as her confident smile gradually turned into a deep frown, quickly replaced by sheer fear.

“Astrid... How are you here? How is this even possible? You should be...” Camilla stammered, her voice trembling as she struggled to finish her sentence, her words caught in her throat.

“Dead?” I interjected coldly, finishing her sentence for her.

She averted her gaze from mine, feeling the weight of every pair of eyes in the room now fixed on us.

“You dare to set up men to stop me? How low and petty can you get?” I continued, my voice dripping with both amazement and sarcasm.

“Not only are you greedy and a thief, but now you’ve resorted to attempting to murder me? Really? How far will you go?”

“This should never have been yours in the first place; you don’t deserve a single thing, and we both know it’s the truth,” Camilla sneered defiantly. “You’ve always been the petty one from the beginning, so what’s the harm if I go the extra mile to get what I want?”

Her complete lack of remorse only fueled my anger further. In a moment of rage, I raised my hand and delivered a resounding slap to her cheek. The sharp crack of the impact echoed through the room, and her head jerked to the side.

Camilla clutched her face, her eyes blazing with fury as she shot me a venomous glare.

“Get out!” I commanded harshly, feeling the surge of anger that made me fear I might do something even worse if she didn’t leave. Her defiant stare only heightened my irritation.

“How dare you lay a hand on me? You actually slapped me, Astrid?” she screamed, her voice laced with indignation. The way she spat my name only intensified my fury, making me yearn to strike her again.

“I said get out!” I snapped again, my voice dripping with bitter contempt.

Halfdan stepped forward, his face a mask of grim determination. “Let’s go,” he urged, grabbing Camilla by the arm. Reluctantly, she allowed herself to be led away, her resistance evident in her hesitant steps.

It was clear she didn't want to leave, but Halfdan’s firm grip left her with no choice.

As they exited, I let out a sharp breath, trying to shake off the lingering anger. My eyes met Dane's, and he offered me a reassuring smile, a small comfort in the storm of emotions. Together, we moved toward the podium, the centre of the gathering.

“I apologise for any misunderstandings that may have occurred,” I began, my voice carrying the weight of authority.

“Everything is now resolved, and I am here, as per my father's instructions, to take my rightful place in the pack. So, let the rites begin!” I declared firmly.

The crowd erupted into loud claps and cheers, their excitement palpable. The pack priest stepped forward, his solemn demeanour adding gravity to the moment.

He motioned for me to extend my hand.

I held out my fingers, feeling a shiver of anticipation as he took a dagger and pricked my thumb. The sharp sting was brief but sharp, a symbolic initiation into my new role.

He then turned to Dane, who stood by my side, his gaze locked onto me with unwavering focus.

The priest repeated the ritual, pricking Dane’s thumb with the same dagger, his eyes never leaving mine.

The priest began to chant in an ancient, rhythmic language, his voice resonating with deep, powerful tones.

He then dipped his thumb into a bowl filled with a dark, mysterious liquid.

The liquid was thick and opaque, its surface shimmering slightly in the light.

With practised moves, he pressed his thumb into the bowl, letting a few drops of the liquid cling to his skin.

He then pressed his thumb against my forehead, followed by Dane’s, the cool, slick sensation of the liquid making me smile.

“Welcome to the pack,” the priest said softly.

“You both now share a bond with the pack. The blood ties have been made, and the pack now belongs to you, Astrid. This is a new beginning for you and the pack.”

The priest's voice echoed with an almost tangible weight as he proclaimed, “I hereby ordain you, Astrid Safiya, as Alpha of the Bluestone Pack!”

The instant the words left his lips, I felt a powerful surge of energy coursing through me. It was as though a hidden reserve of strength had been unlocked within.

My eyes blazed with a luminous, otherworldly glow, a visible show of a new power.

The sensation was overwhelming, intense, and exhilarating. It was as if the very essence of the pack and its legacy had been fused with my own being.

“Alpha Astrid!” the priest said with reverence, bowing deeply before me.

Every pack member erupted into cheers and applause. The crowd’s energy was electric, their voices rising in a collective roar of celebration.

The sound of joyous ululations, the sight of broad smiles, and the echoes of hearty laughter filled the space, creating a vibrant, pulsating atmosphere. The other rites continued with fervour.

As the ceremony drew to a close, the crowd began to thin out, and the air was filled with the hushed murmurs of those making their way to the burial site where my father now rested.

I paused for a moment, my gaze drifting to Dane, who stood beside me with a reassuring presence.

“You’ll do well, I promise,” he whispered gently, his voice carrying a tone of sincerity that eased some of my tension. I leaned in closer, and he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me into a comforting embrace.

The warmth and security of his touch felt grounding amidst the whirlwind of emotions I was experiencing. I couldn’t help but reflect on why we hadn’t had this heartfelt conversation two nights ago.

If Dane had remained distant, how different would this day have been? What were the chances he would have travelled with me, or stood by my side when I was under attack, ready to protect me?

The thought of facing everything alone filled me with unease, and the “what ifs” of his absence weighed heavily on my mind.

Lost in these thoughts, I watched as Dane walked towards the greenhouse, where my father’s final resting place was.

But just then, a sudden, sharp voice broke through my reverie. “Camilla!” I called out, my tone carrying a mix of anger and intense rage at her sight.

As soon as our eyes met, I could see the bitterness etched on her face, a clear notice of her vicious nature.

Her desperation to steal what rightfully belonged to me had driven her to the lowest of lows, even attempting to end my life.

“How dare you try to make me look like a fool in front of everyone?” Camilla spat out, her voice seething with rage. The anger in her words was palpable, each syllable dripping with venom.

“Make you look like a fool?” I shot back, my voice laced with biting coldness.

“You tried to kill me and were convinced I was dead. And now you’re complaining that I made you look foolish? You dug your own grave, Camilla. This is entirely your doing!” My words were sharp, the bitterness in my tone revealing the depth of my anger.

Halfdan walked in, “Let’s leave now, Camilla,” Halfdan said firmly, his voice brooking no argument.

Camilla’s face twisted into a fierce, defiant glare as she shifted her attention to him.

The rage in her eyes made it clear she was far from done.

Without warning, she lunged at me, her movements driven by a surge of fury. Her hand reached out, aiming to strike me.

But Dane moved quickly, positioning himself directly in front of me. His intervention was immediate and decisive, halting Camilla’s attack mid-motion.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, Camilla,” Dane warned in a voice that brooked no argument.

His tone was firm and authoritative, sending a clear message of protection.

Camilla’s expression shifted to one of a reluctant cat as she took a step back, visibly intimidated by Dane’s presence.

She swallowed hard, the fight draining from her eyes as she glanced between Dane and me.

With a defiant huff, she spat, “This isn’t over yet, Astrid!” Her voice was filled with a mixture of frustration and unresolved fury.

Turning on her heel, she stormed off, Halfdan close behind her.
