REJECTED; Mated To The Alpha I Hate

Chapter 40.

Ch. 40 / 118 Apr 29, 2025

Astrid's POV.

“Congratulations on getting pregnant,” the doctor suddenly uttered, making my eyes bulge out in shock and awe.

Without hesitation, I grabbed him by the hand and pulled him closer to me. It was obvious that he knew something no one in the pack must know, something that must be kept a secret and never let out.

“Luna Astrid… Are you okay? You should…” he started to say when I cut in sharply without hesitation. It was best I told him now rather than never or later.

“This is why I am here. Only I know that I am pregnant. Alpha Dane must not know! Please!” I pleaded, my eyes staring into his eyes. My fingers that were wrapped around his arm clenched tightly, and he could feel my fingers digging into his skin.

“What?” he exclaimed, not believing what I had just said to him. “But that should be great news. It’s not like Alpha Dane would kill his own child, right?” he uttered, making me scoff immediately.

I wished it was his child. I wished the child belonged to him so I wouldn’t have to beg a man to hide the fact that I am pregnant from the Alpha.

“Just don’t tell him anything, please!” I shook my head as I implored. I thought he’d accept my plea, but he still proved to be strong-headed and wasn’t willing to listen to me.

“I’m sorry, Luna Astrid, but that can’t be possible…” He pulled his hand out of my grip and took a step away from me, walking back to what he was doing before I entered the room, seeking his attention.

“Why can’t it be possible? He isn’t in the medical field like you, so you can just find something and say to him… he’ll believe it… please, let’s not let him know!” I begged, and this time, I wasted no time in going right on my knees to beg.

The plan was simple: accept his mate bond, keep my child a secret, and when my tummy started bulging, I wouldn’t hesitate to run away from the pack without looking back.

But now that the doctor knew about it, it was best I begged him to keep quiet.

“Luna, get up… I could be killed if you are found this way before me, please!” he requested, fearing what would happen next to him.

“I won’t get to my feet unless you accept to keep it a secret!” I declared, standing firm in my decision.

“Come on, Luna Astrid… we both know how Alpha Dane is… he could tell when I’m lying, and if he does, I’m dead meat! I can’t lie to him; it’s impossible to lie to the Alpha!” he let out, a tinge of worry in his tone as he began to panic.

“I’ll take whatever responsibility it is you want! Just tell him anything else but the pregnancy!” I was still on my knees, making him so nervous.

He paused for a split second as he stared at me. I was sure that he’d be so mad at himself for coming to the pack’s mansion to take care of me in the first place.

With his hands placed on his waist, he gave my request a brief thought.

“It isn’t going to be possible, Luna Astrid. Please get up and leave before someone sees you this way!” he urged after thinking for a split second.

“What are you so scared of? I’m the one who has the craziest disadvantage here… just…” I paused, swallowing nervously. “Just lie to him!”

“Lie to him? You think it’s easy to lie to the Alpha? What if he…” Just as he was going to continue, the door to the study was pushed open, and Alpha Dane’s voice boomed loudly in the expanse of the study.

“What if what?” he asked with a deep voice.

The second the doctor and I turned to the door to find Alpha Dane, I couldn’t help but freeze right in my tracks.

“Alpha?” I mumbled in fear and shock.

“Why are you on your knees, Luna? Did he make you do that?” Alpha Dane’s words and tone carried a sense of anger as he saw me kneeling, and I wasn’t sure why.

I noticed he was going to walk over to the doctor and deal with him, but immediately, I stopped him in his tracks with my words, trying to make him understand that it was my decision.

“He didn’t make me do this, Alpha Dane!” I stood to my feet immediately, turning fully to him. “I was only thanking him for what he did and helping me get well this fast!” I tried to explain as briefly and convincingly as possible.

“You think he made you heal up faster?” His brows lifted as he stared at me. I wasn’t sure what he meant, but all I could do was lower my head in resignation.

“And you…” His attention turned to the doctor standing behind me. “Where are the results? Are they not ready?” Alpha Dane asked, making me turn to the doctor.

My eyes carried a sense of fear and uncertainty as I glanced at him. I pleaded silently that he should carry out the plan just as I begged him.

I could see his fist clench as he stood behind me. He was still pondering what exactly to tell Alpha Dane.

“Won’t you speak, or do I look like a ghost questioning you?” Alpha Dane scoffed. He was getting impatient at this moment.

“I’m… I’m sorry, Alpha Dane!” He bowed his head as he stuttered; he was scared of Dane too.

“The… the results are out, but… but there’s nothing to worry about… she was just weak and needed much rest… that’s why she didn’t wake up early…” he stuttered at every word he said, his lips trembling, his eyes quivering. He was going to make it obvious that something else was up, that something was at play.

“Are you sure about this? Why do you look all sweaty then?” Alpha Dane asked as he walked closer to where he was standing.

“I’m sorry, Alpha Dane, just that standing in your presence…” he was going to say, but Alpha Dane nodded his head, cutting him off shortly.

“Round up and leave!” he ordered before he turned to me.

Without thinking twice, he grabbed my hand and dragged me back into the room. The second we got into the room, he made me lay on the bed.

Was it just me, or was he being nice and sweet?

He covered me up with the bedsheet that was on the bed, his hand reaching for my hair as he caressed it a little.

I felt nervous for a split second as he kept staring at me without saying a single word. It made my heart race rapidly, and for the first time, he cared about me.

It was fun seeing him sit beside me, but one thing I wasn’t happy about was the fact that I just couldn’t tell him anything. And I mean about my pregnancy.
