Astrid's POV.
“Stay away from me right now, Alpha Dane!” I commanded, my eyes glaring deeply into his. My every move was aimed at just getting away from him and nothing more.
If there was a way to stay far, I was willing to do it, but the wall in the room was just becoming more annoying than anyone could ever imagine.
“Stay away from you? And what if I don't? What if what keeps getting into my head right now is to get revenge on you for letting out my secret? For exposing me to not just one person but Edmond?” He snapped, his eyes still piercing into mine.
My eyes widened in shock and realisation at this moment that I couldn't help but exclaim in astonishment.
“What?” My eyes squinted as I stared into his eyes. I couldn't believe what he had just said to me.
“Don't act like you don't know what I am saying right now, Astrid! Don't play the victim! Don't act like you are innocent when you are not! We both know what happened back in that warehouse!” he snarled as he took one last step closer to me.
I could feel it all at this moment, his warm breath that was accompanied by nothing but rage, his glaring stare that left me helpless and weak. His presence carried a sense of betrayal and regret.
“I didn't do anything, Alpha Dane!” I tried defending myself, hoping that he'd listen to me, but who was I kidding? There was definitely no way he was going to listen to me or let me go.
“If you didn't do it just like you said, does it mean that Edmond is lying?” He scoffed, his brows arching as he stared at me.
“What do you even mean? Isn't it obvious that he is lying? He…” I was going to let out, but fuck! Alpha Dane was one silly Alpha who wouldn't just want to believe me. He immediately cut me short, taking the words that I intended to let out to him out of my lips.
“And why would he lie about this? Why in the world would he say he knows my secret when he doesn't? Why would he say you told him when you didn't, Astrid?” He placed his hand by the side of my right ear, his presence making it impossible for me to escape.
“You don't believe me, do you? You will never believe me!” I declared, my eyes becoming moist at this moment.
“You have never given me a reason to believe you, Astrid! Imagine telling Edmond the fact that I have a secret! A secret that you should have kept right within you! What the fuck was it going to take to never let anyone know about this!” He growled as he stared at me.
My eyes grew moist as I watched him scold me. It pained me to the core seeing how he had kept acting towards me.
If there was anything I was expecting, it definitely wasn't the fact that he'd be this harsh towards me this soon. I thought we had begun to heal, I thought we had become unbreakable, but I guess I was only imagining things!
Alpha Dane wasn't that kind, he wasn't the kind to trust anyone, he wasn't the kind to give a fuck about what anyone thinks.
He was going to do what was in his mind regardless of who the person was.
“I hate you so much, Dane!” I sniffled as I placed my hand on his chest. I bet that my words had triggered a feeling in him.
His eyes suddenly grew soft and with that, I wasted no time in pushing him right out of my sight, making him take two steps backward.
“You know, if I was going to let out your secrets, I would have done it the first time I met Edmond! You are something else, Dane!” I scoffed as I walked past him.
I was going to walk out of the room when just then, I halted right before the door, my hand placed on the handle.
Turning my head halfway towards where he stood, I let out my mind. “I was beginning to think that you had changed and loved me for who I really was… but I was wrong all this while!”
I walked out of the room without waiting to hear a single word from him. I swiftly shut the door, heading right out of the mansion.
I needed to clear my head, I needed to get things straight, I needed to be away from Dane at this moment.
With tears welling up in my eyes, I dashed out of the mansion, heading right for the corners of the building where I was going to cry my eyes out.
“I wished I had killed myself when he took me in!” I mumbled, crouching to the ground at this point. It was a quiet place and I was certain that no one was going to walk into the place.
I had the place all to myself to cry. I kept mumbling, crying, and wishing for an escape from the chaos that raged within me, but it was impossible. I had been trapped.
“Tell Edmond? You should have tried to trust me at least, Dane! You should have!” I sniffled, trying to conceal the tears that welled up in my eyes.
Just as I kept sniffling and trying to hide back the pain and regrets that I had, I felt a vibration in my hand, making me turn to look at my hand.
My phone was ringing and oddly, it was my mom calling.
“Is dad willing to take me back!” I mumbled, my thoughts all over the place for a split second before I decided to pick up the call.
The second I placed the phone on my ear, I was expecting to hear something exciting but then, the opposite happened.
“Astrid, is that you there?” My mother asked, her voice barely above a whisper and even worse, it was shaky.
“Mom, are you okay?” I asked, standing to my feet and wiping my eyes.
“Astrid… please… just please…” she stuttered, the words choking in her throat at this moment.
“Mom, stay calm, what is wrong?” I asked, my concern and focus fixed on her at this moment.
I knew my mother and whatever made her this way was never going to be just anything. It was going to be something negative.
“Would I be a bad wife if It turns out that I couldn't take care of him? That I couldn't keep him alive?” She asked, her questions making me more confused.
“What do you mean, mother? You keep speaking in…” just as I was going to say, she cut in with the most shocking news of all time.
“Your father, Astrid… your father is dead and you are expected to return to the pack immediately! Not alone, return with your mate!”
