Dane's POV.
"Alpha, you are bleeding; we should take you to the...” Beta Ivar, looking extremely concerned, was going to reach for my hand as he said, but immediately, I pulled my hand back, trying to avoid his touch on my hand.
“I am an Alpha; I'll heal up soon!” I notified him with a deep voice as I kept on looking around. I was going to get better every second of the night, and for a split second, I pondered why the rogues had retreated that way.
They were expected to kill everyone that stood in their way. They wanted my head, and they were expected to take it off my neck, but hearing that they had just turned around and left the pack made me wonder if Beta Ivar knew what he was saying.
They weren't known for just quitting that easily. I turned to look at Beta Ivar one more time and let out, “Are you sure they retreated?” I questioned him just to be sure of what he was saying to me.
“Yes, Alpha Dane... They left the pack!” He bowed his head, as he explained to me, but it still didn't feel right.
Just then, I recalled Astrid, and going to meet her to show her that I was okay came to mind. I didn't hesitate to turn on my heels and rush into the mansion.
I swiftly headed to her room, a smile curling up on my lips as I reached the door. Taking a deep breath, I reached for the door and pushed it open, hoping to find Astrid or, at least, get a hug from her again.
But to my dismay, the second I opened the door, I was met with nothing but an empty room and the echoes of silence which sent shivers down my spines.
“Where's my mate?” My eyes bulged out in shock as I scanned around. I was going to begin panicking, but on second thought, I hadn't checked properly.
Maybe she collapsed under the bed or inside the wardrobe, right? I created crazy scenarios in my head as I walked closer to the bed. I crouched down and checked under it, but she wasn't there.
I checked the wardrobe too, but Astrid wasn't there; she wasn't in the room. I was certain that I had told her to stay still; I had informed her not to leave the room.
She wouldn't dare disobey me, would she? She didn't take this opportunity to run away, did she? I shook my head immediately.
“Beta Ivar!” I growled, and immediately, Beta Ivar responded to my call. The second he came into the room, he bowed his head.
“Alpha Dane!” He responded swiftly.
“My mate is nowhere to be found, Ivar!” I stated, and that was when he lifted his head to look around.
“She must have run away again, Alpha Dane!” He concluded like he was so sure.
“No, there's no way she ran away. I've been nicer to her these few days. She couldn't have!” My fist clenched as I tried my best not to believe that Astrid must have run away from the pack's mansion, just like Beta Ivar had concluded.
“You didn't see her at all?” I inquired again, holding up my gaze to Beta Ivar.
“I haven't, Alpha Dane!” He reiterated, and it made me more furious, my expression turning into that of the ruthless Alpha they knew me for.
Just when I tried to be nice to her, she fled the pack's mansion. ‘You shouldn't have done so, Astrid!’ I said inwardly as my decision came to an end.
“Find her!” I turned to Ivar, who was still standing in the room.
“Find Astrid, find the Luna of the Red Moon pack, and bring her back… Is that clear??” I growled, and immediately, Ivar bowed his head.
“Yes, Alpha… the search team, and I would make sure we find her! If she had run away, she wouldn't have gone far away from the pack now since there are no vehicles on the way.” Beta Ivar assured immediately.
I swiftly turned on my heels and, sliding my hands into my pockets, walked over to the window in her room. I stared out of it, and the darkness that enveloped the pack gave me a dreadful feeling; it made me get the feeling that somehow Astrid was in trouble.
“No matter what, Beta Ivar, return with her!” I sent out my final command, and he obeyed.
Without a single word to me, he left the room and headed for the cars to go search for my mate.
I secretly prayed and hoped that they were going to find Astrid, and this time, I was going to do everything possible to make sure she didn't disappear.
I got the feeling to search for her around the house, thinking that maybe she could be somewhere. I left the room and headed to the living room first. I searched my study and every part of the house before returning to the first place, the room… but Astrid was nowhere to be found; not even a piece of her clothing.
“Where are you, Astrid?” I pondered as I paced around the room.
After what felt like eternity, the cars that went for the search returned and I anticipated finding Astrid with them.
Soon, the doors to the room opened, and with a smile curling up on my lips, I turned in the direction. Just as I waited to see Astrid walk through the door, I was shocked to see just Beta Ivar instead.
“Where is she???” My voice tensed and was audible.
“I'm sorry, Alpha Dane, but we couldn't find her.” He disclosed briefly.
The smile that had curled up on my lips immediately turned into a frown and a scowl at Beta Ivar.
Without hesitation, I charged towards him, my furious steps echoing nothing but rage as I got towards him. The second I got closer to him, I grabbed him by his collar, staring into his eyes.
“What do you mean you couldn't find her? Is she now invisible?” I asked with so much fury.
“No, Alpha Dane, but we are going to search for her again. If she had run away, then it's obvious that…” Beta Ivar was going to say when, just then, it dawned on me, my grip on his collar loosened.
“Alpha Dane, are you okay?” He questioned, seeing how I had turned into a calm person.
“Astrid didn't run away, Beta Ivar... The rogue's attack was just a distraction to take the Luna of the Red Moon pack away.”
