Astrid's POV.
“She's just a pawn to me!” The words rang out from Alpha Dane's study room, which instantly sent shivers running down my spine.
If there was anything that I wasn't expecting, it was definitely the part of him announcing that I was his pawn.
Here I was, beginning to think and believe that he was beginning to fall for me, not knowing he still had the thoughts of using me to his own advantage.
My fist clenched, and immediately, the tears in my eyes began to dry up. The pent-up anger that boiled and raged within me left no room for weakness.
Sniffling and trying to control my intense urge for him, I turned on my heels and headed back to my room at full speed.
I didn't bother turning around or looking back to know if Alpha Dane had left his study and found me; my focus was just getting to my room.
The second I got into my room, I had the door slammed forcefully as it made an echoing sound in the room.
“A pawn? What a fool I was!” I folded my arms across my chest as I tried suppressing the fury that burned within me.
His voice kept resonating in my mind, and It wasn't willing to get off my head, no matter how hard I tried to shake it off.
I walked over to my table and sat down on the chair before it. I was thinking I'd be fine, but it made it all worse when I saw Alpha Dane's name encrypted on the table itself. It was customised for just him.
“Crap!” I growled furiously as I stood up from the chair, and without hesitation, I placed my hand on the table and swiped everything on it to the ground. without thinking twice.
Everything on the table fell to the ground, echoing in the room nonstop.
“Arghhh!” I growled furiously. It was obvious at this point that the room was soundproof, and that was why no one came into the room to know if I was actually okay.
“I've been so stupid, but it all ends here; it ends tonight!” I declared as I walked over to my bedside. Sitting on the ground beside it, I couldn't help but run my fingers through my hair in frustration.
I was still lost in my thoughts about how I was going to make Alpha Dane pay for what he had done to me tonight when, just then, my eyes became heavy.
I tried to resist the urge to fall asleep so I would know when Alpha Dane came into the room. But who was I kidding? It had already taken full control over me in the next few minutes.
I didn't know when I had napped off while sitting on the ground.
****
The morning sun reflected from the window as I sat down on the ground, and it didn't hesitate to pierce into the openings in my eyes.
I swiftly stood up from the ground where I had slept, and gazing around, I couldn't help but get welcomed back to reality in an empty room.
“He didn't come back to the room, huh?” I pondered briefly as I stared at the empty bed before me.
Just as I was lost in my thoughts, the door opened to Miriam, who bowed her head the second she saw my eyes placed in her direction.
“Luna!” She emitted, the tray in her hand showing that I was going to eat alone today.
She got into the room, and without hesitation, she walked over to the table in my room and placed the tray on it.
Just as she turned on her heels, ready to leave the room, I grabbed her hand, halting her right in her tracks.
“Luna Astrid… Is there something you want from me?” She asked with fear in her tone. I wasn't sure why she was suddenly scared of me, but I didn't bother to ask.
There was only one thing that mattered to me now, and that was Alpha Dane paying for his attempt to use me to his advantage and for calling me his pawn.
“I want you to tell me the truth, Miriam... Where is Alpha Dane?” I asked, staring at her from where I was standing.
“Alpha Dane?” She repeated as she briefly lifted her gaze to meet mine.
“He left the pack for a meeting with other Alphas!” She explained abruptly, instantly prompting a smirk on my lips.
“Did he? Thank you, you may leave!” I urged her, and without hesitation, she turned on her heels and left the room.
The second she got out, I had to look through the window to know if the second gate was blocked, and because Alpha Dane had found me trying to escape through that same place, he had placed guards right there.
“Shit!” I bit my lower lips as I began to pace around the room. I needed to leave the mansion.
There was only one thing that would make Alpha Dane furious at this point, and that was seeing me kneel before Camilla and Halfdan.
I wasn't doing it because I wished to; Camilla was a cunning bitch, and there was no way I'd kneel before her willingly.
But to break Alpha Dane's ego, it was best I did it.
Turning to the table, I saw the knife that Miriam had brought to my room. Immediately, I reached for it and hid it inside my dress sleeves.
Without any more thoughts, I walked over to the door and opened it; it was free, just like that day. I headed straight out of the house and got to the second gate. I wished to pass by without attention, but the guards stopped me.
“We are sorry, Luna... but you are not allowed to leave the pack!” One of the guards on the left warned as he gazed at me.
“And why is that? I don't have freedom in my own pack.” I snapped as I glared at both of them.
“We are sorry, Luna, but Alpha Dane said...” they were going to say, but without hesitation, I cut in.
“Alpha Dane is my mate and my Alpha; therefore, as his Luna, I order you to open the gates! You won't like what I'll do to you the second Alpha Dane comes back!” I warned with fury written all over my face.
Truth be told, I was scared that they might never let me out, but as it stood, they were scared of me in return. They gave each other a brief glance before they turned to look at me.
“We are sorry, Luna!” They bowed their heads to me as they opened the gates. A smile curled up on my lips as I walked out of the gates, heading for the Greenstone pack.
“Astrid?” A voice echoed right in my head, my inner wolf coming with its suggestions.
"Please, Lyla, I don't want to hear any of it!” I snorted as I awaited a cab that would take me to the border of the pack.
“You know what you are doing is wrong! You'll end up regretting it! Kneeling before Camilla isn't something you should do because you want to pay Alpha Dane back!” Lyla advised, making me pause for a second.
She was right; kneeling before Camilla wasn't something I should do to get back at Alpha Dane; it was something I needed to do to make her pay for trying to accuse me falsely.
Slowly, my hand reached for the knife under my sleeve, and with fury boiling through me, I tightened my grip on it.
“She must pay dearly!” I declared, my fist clenched as I stared at the highway, awaiting an incoming cab.
