Morena’s P O V
I was halfway through the book when Leander showed up again. I could not go back to sleep after the nightmare I had. I have always been like that. The night I get one of those troubling dreams, I end up awake until the morning. I profited from reading the book Leander allowed me to borrow. Though I was sure he only permitted that because he wanted me out of his office as soon as possible. The moment we had near the bookshelf was an awkward one. I got to take the book, however. I made a mental note to ask Leander for a noteboook and a pen to write stuff on. I was tired of putting my comments in my phone’s notepad. If he seemed to be in a good mood of course. The guy seemed to have more mood swings than a hormonal pregnant lady.
“Get ready, Morena. We leave in ten minutes.” He says as he looks at my weird sitting position with the book sprawled in front of me.
“Done with your business?” I ask looking back towards the book to mark where I last read. I should also ask for a book mark.
“What do you mean?” He demands giving me a weird look.
“Well you just got up and left. You were going to sleep right? I don’t think you would have got undressed to nothing but your under wear just to talk. I assumed something urgent came up again.” I reply raising an eyebrow. Does he think I am stupid?
“Quit giving me that look and trying to be a smartass, Morena. If you have the intention to leave the room today then get your ass up. I am a busy man.” He threatens and that gets me up immediately. I had no intention to stay locked up in here for another day. I should take every chance out of here i can get. As long as Leander is generous enough to give. I have been going mad in here.
I grab the first sundress I find and put it on. I quickly put my hair up in a messy ponytail and wear my sneakers. There was no need for make up. I did not want to leave him waiting. If I wanted that notebook and the privilege of getting out of here again, I needed to be as docile as a lamb.
“Do you have anything but dresses to wear?” He demands as soon as I get out of the bathroom.
“Actually, I do. But you said I only had a few minutes to dress up. So a dress was the best thing to put on. I did not want to leave you waiting.” I reply giving the best doe eyes I could muster up.
“Quit looking at me like that and get going before I change my mind.” He orders averting his gaze. The doe eyes might be working after all. I should keep that in mind to use it against him in the future. He should not be the only one who has an effect on me.
“Are we going to your office again?” I ask as I follow him through the corridor.
“No, I am taking you anywhere of your choosing today. So, where do you want to go?” He asks not even looking back to me as I struggle to keep up with his large strides.
“Anywhere I want?” I repeat after him not sure I heard him right.
“Did I stutter, mutt? Yes, anywhere of your choosing in the pack. So, make a decision while I am generous enough to let you.” He threatens.
“The library.” I blurt out. “ I want to go to the library.”
“The library? Are you sure? there will not be any change of your mind later on.” He iquires.
“Yes I am sure but would you kindly let me borrow some books if I like them?” I say.
“Borrow books? You already got one, Morena. How about you finish it first?” he suggests.
“I don’t know when you would be generous enough to let me out of the room another time. So, I want to secure something to do while I am locked up. It will reduce the possibilty of me acting up, you know.” I babble.
“I am half tempted to take you back to the room, Morena. For all this nonsense you are spouting. And what is it that you could do? You can’t threaten me of acting up? Morena. I am fully capable of putting you in your place.” He says but I sense no anger from him. He actually might be enjoying this banter.
“Hey, come on! I am trying to make a dea. Besides, I could dig up a tunnel through the wall and escape. Or I can tie up sheets together and take off through the balcony Rapunzel style. The possibilities are limitless. So, can I get some books, please? Pretty pretty please.” I beg as I get in front of him.
He comes to a halt and stares down on me. He was really tall. Too tall for my small frame. I can see he was trying to hold back a smile, so I know I did not just get myself into deep trouble.
“Move along, Morena! We will see about it when we get there.” He finally replies going around me and continuing his path. I quickly follow behind him.
“How far is the library?” I ask.
“You will see it when we get there. Is there a reason you are asking all these questions?” He asks sceptically. “No, Not at all. I am just trying to make a small conversation.” I reply honestly.
“Do I look interested to you, mutt? Just shut up and move along.” He bites out glaring at me. that immediately shuts me up. And I feel stupid for ever thinking that because he was letting me out, that things would be any different. He hated me. And a little gesture of kindness did not mean that anything has changed. I fight back the tears. There was no reason to cry. I should have seen this coming anyway.
“Sorry.” I quietly reply. He stares at me for a brief moment before continuing as I follow behind him. Silently this time.
