Morena’s P O V
“Why did you do that?” Leander asks as soon as Rena and his brother are out of earshot.
“What do you mean by that?” I ask.
“Why did you not tell your sister the truth? I expected you would be showing how much of a bastard I am as soon as you got the chance to do so.” He says sitting down on the edge of the bed.
“You still doubt everything I say or do even before I get to even say or do it I see. You see the worse of me. I should have expected this.” I scoff. He still sees me as an ignorant person. Do I seem like a child who would go flaunting their wounds around?
“I did not mean it in that way, Morena.” HE starts but I raise my hand to cut him off.
“I do not have any desire to know anything about your real intentions. They are irrelevant to me.” I bite out.
“You still have not answered my question, Morena.” He calmly says but I can tell he is holding back his anger. Serves him right! I had nothing to lose anyway now so I can speak my mind. Things could not get worse than this.
“I had no intention to tell Rena from the start.” I breathe out.
“Why is that?” He continues asking. Is this some kind of interrogation? I can see the small flicker of hope in hi eyes. And I do not hesitate to crush it.
“I did not do it for you. I did it for Rena’s sake. I had no idea how she would react but there were only so many possibilities of the outcome. She would either get so mad and come to you. Anything wrong she might say IR do could get her punished or killed. The other option is that she would not say anything to your face because she is terrified of you and she would go and tell Alpha Luke. In which case, he would be very pissed off and a war would rage on between the two packs. My sister would be considered a traitor and would probably end up dead. Neither of those outcomes are good so I choose to shut my freaking mouth to keep her safe.” I blurt out in one breath.
He regards me with a strange look for a while and I do nothing to stop the eye contact war that was going on. His expression was strange. I could not pinpoint the exact emotion he was portraying.
“You really have no faith in me do you?” He finally asks.
“You left me no reason to.” I reply just as fast.
“You think I would have hurt your sister?” He asks as if that possibility was the most incredulous thing in the world.
“You did not hesitate to hurt me. Without even checking facts. What do you think? I will trust you to think straight if my sister was the one making a mistake? I am your own mate and I did not survive your wrath let alone Rena whom you only accepted in your pack because she was a package deal with me. You would not have accepted her as a pack member if I had not said that there was no way I was coming along unless she was with me.” I replied. How dare he think I would still see the good in him after what he had done to me.
“I know I made a grave fucking mistake, Morena. I think about it every single second of every single day ever since I left you in that pit. You do not have to throw it in my face at every chance you get because there is no way in the world I would be forgetting about it any time soon.” HE bursts out. Clearly my constant jabs at him were taking quite the effect. serves him right!
“Am I supposed to take pity on you now?” I ask.
“I am not asking for pity.” He bites out each word at a time. Even if he was, he would not admit it. He was way too prideful to do so. “I did not leave you for too long in the pit, Morena. I came to get you less than two hours later. You were in such a bad state you probably do not remember it.” He sighs. And he was right. The circumstances on how I left the pit were a complete blur. I just remember waking up in the hospital hooked to wires and beeping machines.
“You still pushed me in there cold heartedly. You just blurted the word goodbye and threw me in like we were in some cheap soap opera.” I choke out. I still remember those tingles on my shoulder as I fell down and heard every bone in my body break.
“I told you I knew very well that i fucked up, Morena. I will work on it and I will try my best to fix it. I know it might be selfish to ask but could you at least meet me half way. Find it in your heart to forgive me. I promise I will not let you down.” He says and I can see the honesty in his eyes. He reaches out to hold my hand and I flinch from him. I can see the pain gather in his gaze before he quickly and skillfully masks it away. Just like he does with every other emotion.
“You cannot expect me to just take things for granted. I trusted you before on baseless grounds until they crumbled underneath me. Look where it got me. If you want my forgiveness you are going to have to earn it and I promise you it will not be easy. I am not the mutt I was a month ago. You broke something in me, Leander and even I am not sure if it can be fixed or not.” I sigh.
“I understand. I promise I will tell you every thing in due time, Morena.” HE promises with a weird expression.
