Chapter 57
Morena’s P O V
The trip back to the pack house was strangely quiet. No one was to be seen. Leander did not take the path I remember us taking when he took me out that dreaded day. The road this time was far more secluded. He passed behind buildings and I could not even hear anybody nearby. But then again my hearing was not something to take reference from. He mentioned earlier they are trying to keep the whole thing under wraps so he probably arranged for my trip back to be as discreet as possible. He probably did not want word to get out. His image would be further more soiled if anyone found out he had thrown his own mate in the pit. He was already known as cruel and heartless and this would do nothing but solidify that assumption. Not that I thought it was an assumption any more. They had every right to call him that. He was a senseless heartless son of a bitch. And alpha Luke would not sit idly by if he heard of this. He entrusted me to him and then he almost got me killed. A war would not be avoided if he heard about the incident.
I was so deep in thought, I did not even notice that we had arrived in the room. Leander placed me on the bed and headed out. I was feeling nauseated by the sparks that were erupting throughout my body. I used to love those sparks but now they just turn my stomach. They are a constant reminder of what he had done to me. Those sparks were the last thing I felt as he pushed me down the pit. They were insignificant to him and they should be the same to me. I felt like vomiting every time he held my hand in that hospital. But even though I dreaded the fact that he was touching me I still could not shake off the feeling of comfort that having him in the same room and touching me gave me. It settled in the far back of my being and would not go away no matter how much I tried to talk myself into fully hating him.
I decided I should try to take a shower or at least clean myself up and change into something other than the hospital gown I was in. I smelled like hospitals and death. The closest thing I got to a shower for the past month was the sponge baths I have been getting in my sleep. I would wake up all freshened up and dressed in another gown and I do not remember when it happened. The nurse that was giving me the sponge baths probably had ninja stealth skills.
I struggle to sit up and take a few minutes to catch my breath before forcing my body to stand up. I almost fall back down immediately and I feel tears gather behind my eyes at the weak state I was in right now. I was not even able to take a few steps towards the god damned bathroom. I inch closer and closer toward the bathroom door. I took a minute of rest after each step I took and I was leaning my whole body weight on the edge of the bed.
“What do you think you are doing?” I hear Leander ask, stepping into the room just as I was about to turn the door knob on the bathroom door. I ignore him and proceed to open the door. Now, I had to figure out a way to get in and close the door without looking like new born baby that was just learning how to walk.
“Morena you should not have gotten out of bed.” He reprimands as he approaches me. He hovers next to me not sure what to do next. “Let me help you back into bed.” He says softly.
“No thank you. I need to take a shower. I feel all sticky and disgusting and I want to take a look in the mirror to see how messed up I actually am.” I bite out completely, stopping his suggestion. I see him visibly wince as I say the last part but I do not give a damn.
“Rest up tonight and then we can do whatever you want in the morning.” He suggests.
“I have been lying in a bed helplessly for over a month. I do not want to do that anymore. Forgive me if I want to move now that I am finally physically able to do so.” I growl.
“Calm down. I am not trying to stress you out. I am just looking out for you.” he replies.
“Well, I would not be needing someone to look after me if it was not for you and what you have done.” I yell and his eyes instantly darken. I was starting to go dizzy from all the standing up I have been doing. All this moving has taken a toll on my body. I hated to admit it but maybe Leander was right. I should be resting instead of moving around. I did not want Rena to find me in a shitty state when she comes tomorrow. I need to look as strong as possible for her. I can’t begin to imagine how scared she has been, not seeing me for over a month.
“How about this? Let me take you back to bed and order you something to eat. I will help you take a shower and change into something more comfortable once you have eaten and rested up a bit.” He suggests and I nod. He immediately lifts me up and places me back on the bed. The steps that took me almost thirty minutes to cross were nothing but two simple big strides for him.
I see him mind linking someone before he turns his attention back to me. “Your meal will be here soon. Lay back for a bit. You look as white as a sheet.” he says sitting next to me at the edge of the bed.
