Chapter 40
Morena’s P O V
I was buzzing with excitement. Alpha Luke and his company arrive today and I hoped being withdrawn from Leander the past few days won’t affect my chancesof getting to meet up with him. I intended to behave myself perfectly so that he will not take my chance to see alpha Luke away but I could not help it. I did not do something bad exactly but I was not on my best behavior the past few days. He would come to my room and ask a few questions about my day or if I needed anything and I would reply dryly. He even asked if I wanted to go out of the room and I declined. I could not bring myself to look at him. The pain that his lack of hesitation when I asked if he would ever punish me. It was as if he lodged a knife into my chest and I could not take it away. Now I had to think about every thing I say or do. Even one unintentional mistake could cost me my life. I was weak. Too weak to survive any of those penalties. He already had doubts about my entire existence. Now, I had to be careful not to breathe wrongly or I will end up in a hole with a silver collar. I saw someone get collared before. He stole from our pack and was caught. He was yelling out of pain for hours until he passed out from the intensity of the pain. That collar was made with a low amount of silver and the man was a warrior. He was well built and strong and he passed away from pain. I suspect I will die if I ever touch pure silver.
I continue browsing through a new book when the door opens. It was lunch time now.So it is probably the woman that delivers my meals every day. She usually knocks but I told her not to anymore. She keeps interrupting my reading. So, I asked her to just come in and place the food in the room if she does not sense anyone’s presence but mine in the room.
I keep reading until I feel a looming presence behind me. I finally realize it was Leander who entered the room and not the meals delivery lady. I was so immersed in the book I did not even notice the chills that go through my skin each time he is around.
“I could have killed you and you would not know what happened to you.” He comments. “If you wanted me dead you would have done it already.” I curtly reply.
“You did not even notice my presence when I entered. I was here for five minutes before you knew I was here.” He comments unimpressed.
“I was immersed in reading my book. I thought you were the person who delivered my meals every day.” I reply not looking back at him. Staring blankly at my book.
“And that person enters without knocking? I am the only one who comes in without permission. “ He growls.
“Actually you are not. I told the woman that she could enter and place the meal without knocking if there was no one but me in the room. “ I reply.
“ANd why the hell would you do that?” he demands and his aura was starting to radiate anger. Great! He gets triggered by anything this man!
“Beacuase she kept interrupting my reading sessions. Besides, the woman enters the room and leaves it without so much as breathing loudly let alone speaking to me. So might as well do it without bothering me by knocking on the damn door.” I say starting to get worked up myself.
“ANd why would she listen to any thing you say to her? I am the one who gives the orders here!” he bites out.
“She listened because she knows I am your mate. Which means I am going to be her luna one day. And that commands respect. That is why she listened. Because every single person I have met since I came here seems convinced of that fact except you!” I spit out throwing the book away and directing my glare to him. He was equally mad and I can see the vein in his neck grow larger by the second.
“Do not talk to me in that manner, mutt.” He growls grabbing me by the back of my neck and pulling me into him. His face was right next to mine.
“Or what?” I ask not backing away. I could smell the desire radiating out of him. He liked that I fought him back. On this one at least. I had no guarantee that he will not flip on me at any second and decide that talking back to him was wrong. I could be ending up in that pit anyway. But I wanted to see it through. It was thrilling to finally fight back a bit after being scared as a bunny in the past couple of days. He did not like me anyway.
“You will not like the consequences of disobeying me, Morena.” He threatens. But I feel his grip loosening a slight bit on my neck.
“What will you do if I don’t stop? Punish me? You already showed that I meant nothing to you and that it was absolutely normal for you to punish me. I will probably end up dead anyway. So why should I listen?” I reply my voice breaking up at the end and I hate myself for it.
“you still mad about that.” He sighs loudly before loosening his grip on my neck completely and releasing me. He steps away from me and heads back towards the door.
“You will not end up dead if you behave properly, Morena.” He says masking the anger I still feel radiating from him.
“I have no guarantee that what you say is true.” I reply bending over to pick up the book I had just thrown on the ground. I could feel him eyeing my every move.
“Well, you just have to take my word for it.” He says with finality before getting up adn leaving the room.
