Chapter 43
Leander’s P O V
I had just got off a call with the crescent moon pack’s alpha when Asher came in accompanied by our visitors. I would have much rather made the conversation face to face rather on the phone but I could not bring members of every pack that will turn out to be related to this matter over here. It was more dangerous to my pack than to have the conversation over the phone with the risk of having it spied on.
“I just got off the phone with the alpha of the crescent moon pack.” I say to the men in front of me.
“And are there any updates?” Asher asks and alpha Luke seems equally interested by the answer to that question.
“Well they had a few old books and relics stolen from them. He will be sending me a list over email as soon as possible.” I reply.
“So they have a pattern.” Sion states.
“Apparently so. They have been targeting packs that have rich heritage form their ancestors and elders.” I reply.
“Every pack has precious things they passed on from generation to generation. It is not possible that they are doing these attacks randomly.” Asher mutters.
“What do you mean?” I inquire.
“All packs have keepings, Leander. If their intention was to just steal then they would attack anywhere, everywhere, at any given time. Yet those attacks have been organised. Discreet
even. And if rumors did not go off then most packs would have not heard of any of those incidents. I mean we did not hear about the crescent moon one until Sion mentioned it yesterday.” he explains and I understand where he was going.
“Are you saying my pack would have not suffered all those losses if the rogues have not me the patrol?” alpha Luke asks and I can feel his rage bubbling up.
“Probably.” Asher replies with no hesitation.
“The crescent moon pack did not know about the theft until one of their elders noticed that the items were missing the day after. it was only when they got back to surveillance cameras that they noticed that they have been infiltrated by rogues.” I explain.
“The rogues probably had no intention to fight unless they got caught which unfortunately was the case for your pack, alpha Luke.” Asher says with a bit more reserve this time. He sometimes had a difficult time portraying his emotions. Though he was all smiles and witty comebacks, he still went through his own hell because of our damned father. So, sometimes heis is just bluntly heartless. Especially when he is pissed off. Even I know better than to piss Asher off.
“But there has to be an explanation for those things! if they are not just simply stealing. And they are being discreet about it then there is a reason behind it. Thetre has to be!” Alpha Luke says getting all worked up. I can’t blame the man. He had precious members of his pack killed and all of that could have been avoided if he had lighter patrols which was completely ridiculously ironic.
“There probably is. Those books and stolen items probably have something in common. We probably just have to figure out what it is.” Asher says.
“Witches.” I say. One word had every pair of eyes in the room turning towards me.
“Witches? It couldn’t be. It is impossible!” alpha LUke says.
“Nothing is impossible. There is no actual proof that witches are extinct. It actually makes a lot of sense. Most of the items stolen , the ones we know of at least, were used by witches that were allies of each pack. Which means they were used by them for their rituals. These items are held precious to us but we can nont actually use them. If there are witches left and our doubts are true then we probably heading towards a big war.” I say.
“There have been rumors and speculations going around the past few years about witches activities in the nearby area. Most have been dismissed because no actual proof was found.” Sion says.
“Even if there is actual proof, I doubt those who found it would talk about it. The opinion about witches in the werewolf communities is divided. Some regard them as allies and some perceive them as their worst enemies. No one would want to be the bringer of doom and announce that they are coming back.” Asher mumbles.
“So, we know that these items initially belonged to witches and they claimed them back. If our doubts are true then we should look for the common link between those artifacts.” I say.
“You mean like a ritual that they are all used for or something?” Sion asks.
“Exactly that.” I reply liking how sharp the man was.
“That would prove to be difficult. First of all, the stolen items are ancient which means we will be looking for and ancient witch ritual. We basically have little to no information about these. And second of all, we do not know if the list of items w have is actually complete. There could be other thefts that we have not heard about.” Ahser says and I know we are probably fucked until they actually act out.
“They are not allied with the rogues. They most likely bewitched them to use thm as they please. There is no way a rogue would launch an attack for an artifact or sacrifice themseleves to be killed just at our borders.” he adds.
“There is also something else.” Sion adds and we all turn to him. So, he carries on. “There is no proof that there was any attempt of stealing anything from your pack. We already established that the rogues left on your borders were not attackers but simply a message. They are probably targeting your pack. I would not be surprise since your father practically helped eradicate what was left of them.”
“The message is that they are coming for us. And no man or woman will be spared from their wrath.” Asher finishes as a sense of doom falls on the entire office.
