Leander’s P O V
I have been living on scraps of Morena’s attention for the past week and it has been driving me nuts. She has been continuing to ignore me after those few words we exchanged. I only got to hear her talk just because Asher came to see her. I had to see my brother lay himself bare in front of her. I knew how much losing his mate has hurt him. He avoided the subject as much as he could and every one knew better than to mention it in front of him. He told Morena whom he barely knew just to lift up her spirits a bit after she told him about her wolf. I hear Asolf whine at the mention of Osk. He has been on his toes ever since Morena revealed she was gone. I remember how she burst as soon as Asher asked if she was okay while I struggled for hours to get just one word out of her.
She trusted Asher and confided in him and he revealed his weakest and lowest point to her even though they barely spent any time together. While I was the person she spent the most time with since her arrival and she was barely sparing me any glance and I had no one to blame for this but my stupid conceited self. I had let my father’s poison seep into my brain and fester there. And when I was given a chance to happiness, I went and threw it out the window. Because I was stupid. A stupid fucking idiot. I had promised myself ever since I killed that sick bastard that I would never let his past abuse influence my life or that of my pack any longer but at the first test I completely dismissed it.
Morena was getting out of the pack’s hospital today. She was slightly improving and was no longer hooked to all those wires and IVs. No one in the pack knew she was here and I wanted it to remain that way. I did not want them to see her weakness. But for most part, I did not want them to know I was the one who caused it. That is why I asked the doctor if it was possible to move her back to my room and he welcomed the idea.Morena was still pretty battered up but she was able to sit up straight without wincing in pain. I saw her wounds healing faster in the course of the pas few days. She was indeed healing way slower than a normal werewolf and it made me feel worse that I did not believe her when she told me on multiple occasions.
Her sister has been pestering me to see her. Though the little thing was scared shitless of me and always ran the opposite direction as soon as she saw me, now she insisted on seeing her sister and actually held her ground. It just showed me how much the sisters cared about one another. Morena also insisted she will not be coming with me unless Rena was with her. We told Rena that her sister was hurt and was in the pack’s hospital and that she was hurt. Asher told me he did not give her any details. I was thankful she understood that we wanted to keep the thing under wraps so she was not able to see her until she was cleared by the doctor. I have no idea what Morena would be telling her sister about this but the two of them never hide things from one another. Rena was fifteen but she was her sister’s confidant.
I was done with the doctor and heading towards Rena’s room when Asmund came to see me.
“What did the doctor say?” He asked. Even though he did not express it as blatantly as Asher did, I knew he was not happy with me or what I did with Morena. He regarded her as his luna and considered it his duty to protect her.
“He said she should continue to rest and we should not stress her. He gave me a few other instructions but he cleared her to go home.” I explain.
“Good. That’s good.” He mumbled. “Will you be coming back to assume your alpha duties now?” He then asks.
“I am not sure. I will decide after I see how Morena settles once she is back in the room..” I reply. I know that I have been neglecting my duties to my pack the past days but Morena’s situation had me in shackles. I was not capable of taking any decision as i was drowning in regret at the sight of her fucked up state. “Why?” I still ask.
“A lot of things need attending to. There are some decisions neither me or Ashser are capable of making. It has to be you.” He explains. “Besides, some of the pack members are taking notice of your absence. They keep getting their orders from either me or your brother. it’s starting to raise some suspicions. It’s the last thing we need. We do not want word to get out, especially under the current circumstances.” He continues.
“I will see what I can do. I can probably arrange to take care of things while Morena is asleep. It will be at very odd times though.” I say finding an intermediate solution. The doctor told me that Morena is healing better because of my presence near her. So I had to spend the most time possible by her side though I doubted she welcomed that.
“That won’t be a problem.” He replies.
“Then please inform Asher. See that the room next to mine is transformed into an office. I have to be as close as possible to her at all times.” I order and he nods.
“I will be taking my leave then.” He curtly says before nodding as he turns on his heels and struts away from me.
