Leander’s P O V
I had my reservations about letting Rena see her sister but I could not take that away from Morena. I have already taken enough from her. AndI could see in her eyes how much she missed Rena every time she was mentioned in front of her. I did not have any chance to talk to Morena. I wanted to warn her about the dangers of telling her sister the truth. It could cost a huge diplomatic issue between my pack and alpha Luke’s. But she was completely rejecting me and I had no chance to warn her. I was not even sure I had any right to make requests. I almost killed her and I had no grace to ask for.
“Are you okay? What happened? I haven’t seen you in a month! Asher and Alpha Leander would not tell me a thing except that you were hurt!” Her sister bombarded her and Morena regarded her with a soft smile. She seemed used to her sister’s consistent mumblings.
“One question at a time, Rena.” She chuckles and even that action seems to hurt her. I feel my chest squeeze at the sight of her pain.
“I already asked you a few questions. You can start by answering those.” Rena pouts clearly embarrassed by her own outburst.
“Yes, I am okay. I am alive and breathing right in front of you.” She softly says.
“But you look like shit.” She whispers and I flinch. Morena did look bad. I would have preferred that she would take a few more days to rest up. But neither sister was patient enough. They have already been apart for too long.
“Thank you, sister. Glad to hear confirmation of my shitty state. Great sisterly act, girl.” She says sarcastically.
“You know, I would not lie to you.If you look bad I would say it directly.” Rena replies sticking her tongue out sheepishly. But please tell me how this happened. I visited you that morning, you were fine.” she says. I knew Rena was smart. She was aware something was off. But she did not say anything. Probably too scared to do anything. I could not blame her.
“I am not sure what happened either.” Morena says and I am taken aback. I throw a glance towards Asher but he does not seem surprised at all. If he was, he is doing a great job hiding it.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Rena asks suspiciously.
“If you have any patience, I would have explained. It hurts to talk, Ren. So, I am taking it slow.” Morena reprimands and her sister mumbles a soft apology.
“I went for a stroll with Leander. We were at the lake when I strayed a bit away from him while he was mind linking his brother. I went too far from him and I was suddenly attacked. I was pretty battered up by the time Leander caught up with me.” She lies through her teeth.
“But how come Leander did not get to you in time. You have been badly hurt.” Rena questions the whole room and not just her sister but I could not even utter a word. It was not even registering in my mind that Morena was not telling her sister the truth.
“The issue Leander and I were discussing via the mind link was quite lengthy. Your sister was able to wander off quite far from Leander. So by the time he heard her screams and caught up, she had already been pretty messed up.” Asher says rolling smoothly with her lies. Was he aware of this beforehand? But I do not recall him ever being around Morena without me being present. He would ask for my permission even if he were to go see her by himself.
“And did you catch who did it?” Rena asks.
“No, there were so many and they came out of nowhere. That is why they were able to hurt me so much. They ran away as soon as they saw Leander coming and he was so caught up with me that he was not able to catch up with them. No patrol was around either, so they managed to get away.” Morena continues to lie smoothly. It seems she gave this a lot of thought beforehand.
“Is alpha Luke aware of this?” Rena asks.
“No he is not. and there is no need for him to find out. You two are no longer part of his pack, Rena. This is a private issue. And it would be good if no private matters got out. We may have good relations with alpha look but this is still a private matter.” I say as calmly as possible trying my best not to scare her but there is a limit to how tolerant I can be when my pack is in question. It still earns me a glare from Morena and Asher anyway. Rena seems to understand where I am coming from.
“I am sorry. I did not mean it in a bad way. I am still not used to having you as my alpha. We have always run everything through Alpha Luke since we were young. It’s a bit odd to have someone else now even though I have been here for a while.” Rena says apologetically.
“It’s okay, Rena. I know it is difficult to adjust to new circumstances. I just hope you understand what I meant to say, though.” I softly say. I never liked interacting with kids. I do not know how to be nice most of the time. It’s like I am doing a bunch of new things ever since Morena came around.
“It’s okay. You are just trying to protect your pack.” Rena says. “I should leave you to rest now, Morena. I will come to see you later.” she then continues. She stands up and gives her sister a small peck on the cheek.
“I will take you back to your room.” Asher says before escorting Rena and leaving me and Morena alone in the room.
