Chapter 48

Ch. 48 / 59 May 05, 2026

Leander’s P O V

What are the odds that my attempt to get a hold of the mess that has been taking place in my pack lately is actually making a bigger mess out of things? I might be right after all. Morena could be the imposter I thought she was. But the possibility that I might be wrong and the actual paranoid bastard my brother accused me of being terrifies me. There is no way for me to fix things if they turn out to be that way. I already made th most fucked up impression with her. I would have to grovel for the rest of my life and might not be forgiven.

I ran as fast as I could out of the pack house with Asher right on my tail. I do not care about the weird glances my pack members give me as I rush through them as a maniac. I could shift to get there faster but there was no way I was giving control to Asolf. he has been going mad since I placed Morena in the pit and I had no guarantee he would let me take over again. I only lost control of him once before and he was a monster. It ended up with my father dead and a huge mess to clean up. I did not want to think about that right now.

“Which pit did you place her in?” Asher asked as soon as we entered the pack forest and we were out of anyone’s ear shot.

“The south eastern one.” I reply not looking back.

“I already mind linked the pack doctor. I told him to empty the room in the back and prepare himself for an emergency.” He says. “No one should see her when we get her there.” I order.

“Do not worry about that. Asmund is taking care of it.” He replies. I was thankful I had Asher with me in times like this. He managed to do all of this in a few minutes while still running after me. He always had better control of his feelings than I did. And I would always find a lesser of a mess to clean up when I go back to my senses.

The pit could not get any further than this as I curse myself for choosing the furthest one from the pack house. There was one closer to the lake but I chose to take her to the south eastern pit in case I went crazy with wanting to see her. That was dumb. An addition to all the dumb shit I had done the past couple of hours. I continue to silently pray that I was right. That she was a fake. An imposter.

We finally reach the damned pit and I pause, unable to actually lift the meatal lid and check her state. I listen for a heart beat and I barely hear it. It was faint. She was barely alive. Asher seems to notice my hesitation to step any closer so he does. He opens the pit and I hear him curse as he takes a look in.

“Leander, go in and take her out.” He orders and his words fall on deaf ears. The only thing I could hear now was those faint whimpers that were not audible when the pit was sealed. She was in pain. She was hurting because of me.

“Leander, MOVE! NOW! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE?” He yells at me and that gets me going. This was not the time to wallow in regrets.

I get closer and look inside the pit and that’s when I spot her. I take a large intake of breath at the horror of what I see. THe pit was dark but I could distinguish what was down there. There she was laying there barely alive. It was not her it was a pure white wolf. I knew it was her. I could feel it. Asolf was howling in the back of my head at the state his mate was in. I jump down with no hesitaation. I had to get her out of there. I lean next to her as soon as I land on my feet and steady myself up. It was a white wolf. Very weak, barely breathing. Her white coat was stained with blood. It was clear that her body could not sustain the pain of shifting. And I had forced her to do it. I was the reason she got through all this pain.

“Morena.” I call. “Morena, open your eyes.” I urge her but to no avail she was not moving. Nothing but those small whimpers were coming out of her.

“She is weak. She has to shift back or she will not live.” I hear Asolf growl in the back of my head. This is the first he has talked to me in hours.

“How do I get her to shift back?” I ask. “From what I know werewolves usually shift back to their human form when they are hurt or too weak to sustain their wolf form.”

“That’s the normal case but none of this is normal thanks to you.” He bites out. “She was forced to shift. Her wolf took over and forced her to change.”

“Why would her wolf do that if she knew it could kill them?” I ask.

“Because she thought that by doing that she could get you back. You are her alpha. You gave her orders to shift and she wanted to please you. Morena was already very weak from the fall after you threw her in here. She could not fight OSk off.” he angrily growls and I feel like a bucket of molten lava was poured into my stomach.

“And what should I do now?” I ask helplessly.

“You have to force her to change back into her human for if you want any chance at redeeming yourself and saving her.” He replies.
