Leander’s P O V
“ There are many things that you do not know about. Perhaps when you get a better picture of things it would be a bit harder for you to hate me so much.” I sighed before standing up.
“I have some things to discuss with Asher. I moved my office to the room next to this one. If you need anything just call for me.” I said leaving the room.
“Even if I need something I will not be asking for it from you.” she says behind my retreating back and I just sigh in defeat. There was no use to continue this conversation any more. She was still hurting from my action and I had promised myself to take every jab she threw in my way. God knows I earned it.
“Asher, come to my temporary office if you have nothing to do at the moment.” I say through the mind link as I enter the room next door to mine.
“On my way. I am just chilling in my room anyway.” He immediately replies.
I pour myself a cup of scotch and plop down the couch. Drinking alcohol did not have any effect on werewolves because of our extremely high metabolism. It could only affect us if we drank it in extremely huge quantities but it still gave me a weird satisfaction to have a cup or two when I desperately needed to relax. The lingering, bitter after taste was what made me keep a wine cabinet in my office.
“It has been a while since I last saw you drinking.” Asher says as he enters the room.
“It has been a while since you saw me do anything actually.” I sarcastically reply. I have been nothing but a bedside companion for Morena for the past month.
“What did you want to talk about?” Asher asks as he pours himself a cup of scotch.
“Did you speak to Morena while I was not around?” I straightforwardly ask.
“No, I did not. It is not like you leave her side anyway for me to privately talk to her. Why do you ask?” He fires back.
“You seemed aware that she was not going to tell her sister about the truth of what really happened to her.” I explain.
“I was not aware of anything. I suspected it but did not know for sure if she would have done it or not. If anything, I was just as surprised as you were by the conversation that took place between her and her sister.” He replies.
“You suspected it?” I demand.
“Yes, I did. Morena is not dumb Leander. She probably knew what would have happened if she revealed the truth to her sister or any one else for that matter. She must have noticed that we were keeping the whole thing under wraps and gave it some good thought before she met her sister. SHe is smarter than you think.” He explains.
“And you figured all of this out just by looking at her?” I ask suspiciously. I knew he did not meet with her or have any talk whatsoever privately but it still was fishy to me.
“Are you seriously going to spread those doubts and negative vibes? You do not get to do that with me brother. I know you know I have not met with her and still you can not keep that twisted mind of yours from playing games on you. I told you I had my doubts about the matter but was not sure. I assure you I was just as taken aback by the whole ordeal as you were. I just have done a good job masking it. I was always better than you when it came to having a poker face.” He says, wriggling his brows.
“She said she did it to protect her sister from me.” I tell him remembering all those venomous words Morena spat my way a few minutes ago.
“Of course you went and asked her about it.” Asher sighs exasperatedly.
“What is that supposed to mean?” I demand.
“You are very aware that you have to tread carefully for a while when it comes to Morena. She is your mate and you need her yet you went and fucked things up with her. You may be getting a second chance now that she chose not to throw everything in chambles and get us in a war we do not need to be. You showed that you had no trust in her when you asked her about it, LEander. If you look at the matter from another angle, Morena might have chosen to protect you by not revealing the truth to her sister and yet you went and questioned her motives for it the first chance you got.” Asher explains and I see where he was coming from. I really was the bastard he and Morena describe me to be. I just can not keep my mouth shut. She had every right to burst out in front of me earlier.
“Well she gave me an earful when I asked her about it. She was so mean I tell you. She was not even scared of me. It kind of gave me some hope not going to lie.” I say.
“She did, didn't she?” Asher chuckles. “I knew that girl had balls the moment I saw her. Most men cower away from you but I remember her standing her ground in alpha Luke’s office. She even called you the runt of the litter during our ride back here.” He says with a smile. I can tell that Asher was quite fond of Morena. He regarded her as his sister and he always had her back from day one even if he had to go against me. I just feel comforted to know she would be safe with him if I was not there to protect her. he would keep her from harms way. Even if it was coming from me.
